If you have a NAPA in town just get down to the store and ask them to place a tester on the system. I would expect that other autopart stores would do the same. Just remember the polite thing to do is now buy the parts from them.

There is no need to purchase an alinement tool. I made in 1970 a tool out of a broom stick handle and formed the pilot bearing end with a belt sander and wood chisel! This was for my Ford Cortina. Since then I have use the same tool on a Dodge, USA Ford and 620 Pickup. I adjusted the size by rapping tape around the where it is needed. I once could not find the tool and used a highlighter with the cap removed rapped with elec tape. This was used on my sons 510.

smg1404 comment about over filling the crankcase with oil made me remember when I over filled my 620 pickup because the oil was so clean I though it was off the dipstick! Well it was real funny watching the tailgaters back off when I went around corners or accelerated hard . The cloud was quite large and by the reaction of some drivers it must of been spotting their windshields. I may have stumbled on a way to back of the tailgaters . . . . direct oil injection! I can see it now in a JC Whiteny catalog now! Maybe I can retire on the profits:cheeky:

I have never pulled a Z trans. but the 5speed in my 620 Pickup was 3-4 hours out and in and I was learning. Now that I know what I am doing I would estimate 2 hours, 3 at the max. Most of the time is unbolting items and rebolting. Good luck have fun, it sound like you have a great resource with the club. I yanked the truck trans. by digging a pit and driving over it. No mater what kind of clutch you select to put in that car you should do it yourself and use the saved funds for a better clutch or on something that you can not do yourself. One of the things that I love about a rear wheel drive auto is at I have the ability to do it myself. I once had a 66 dodge with a three speed that I could remove and replace the clutch in 1/2 hr. :ninja: Not like my 93 Saturn that when you read the procedure every paragraph has a warning that if you do this step wrong you will screw things up more than you can believe! :nervous: Oh and never buy a clutch from JC Whitney. I had one come apart at the springs :surprised: in a Cortina and boy was that exhilarating. Note: That was 30 years ago an I still do not trust thier parts.

I have searched the forums and can not find anything on this subject. Does anyone know how to get locking lug nuts off a car without the key? I have found some rims that I like at wrecking yard but they have locking lug nuts. Anyone with a back ground in "midnight auto supply" should know but I have stayed away from those kind of folks. First let me start with that I love to wander. An example is that on a Friday afternoon I drove from Sacramento into the center of Nevada. Spent the night by the side of the road, then the next day drove to the south rim of the Grand Canyon via the north rim then on to Las Vegas for the night. Then back to Sac by Sunday afternoon:love: So I do like to travel, so to me I would at this as a great adventure. By flying to SF pick up the Z and head East on I-80. If you have problems rent a tow dolly and a small U-haul truck and bring her on home. If I was really comfortable with the car I would take HWY-50 which is more remote but follows the old Pony Express Trail. I have driven it east as far as Green River UT and other sections to Denver, but not east of the Rockies. If you like to see the old USA before all the Freeways this is the route for you. To handle the heat in my Z I take of my shirt, soak with water, put it back on and it keeps me cool for about 50 miles.

That sucks, you know that the officer was betting on you not wasting your time going to court over a $47 ticket. I would like see him tell that line to the judge We once had local police jumping up on to I-80 and ticket speeders as they passed through the city limits. They go away with it for ~6 months before a local got nailed and when to court. Boy the judge was pissed and gave the city hell for letting it happen and the officer that was the worst offender lost his job.

When I was 17 (now 47) I received an "Exhibition of Speed' ticket for burn out. The sad thing was that car was a 1966 Dodge Coronet slant 6 with "3 on the tree" and the only way to "burn out" was to break it loose in a puddle of water! Regarding the Florida ticket for revving your engine sound a little like a free speech issue, in that you have not committed crime only told the world that you are thinking about it! An example would be if you got out of your car and starting yelling that your car was faster than the other car! Just give it sometime one day a lawyer in his BMW is going to get ticked for revving the engine and we will see this on in the papers as it makes its way up the legal system. Every once and a while the bureaucrats that are protecting us from ourselves need to be set back a step or two. An example in California was the DMV decided that all cars coming into California that were not original purchased in California had to pay a $300 environmental fee! I just do not trust jack stands, :paranoid: so I went out and got scrap ends of large beams at construction sites. I then build up my support typical with 6x12s then 4x6s then 2x4s etc. I soon will be rid of this system because I am building garage that will have a ~1' x3'x 8' long trench that I can drive over. I came up with this idea when I had to pull the transmission on a 620 Pickup and I was not comfortable working under the truck with ramps. So I dug a trench and lined it with plastic and it worked great! You can see it in action at Photos

I live in the Sacramento area, if anyone wants me to look at the car and take some highres photos let me know. From the look of it on eBay it look like a bargin at $1000. But if it is rusted out in all the usual places it is a parts car.

When I was in high school in (69-73) one of my buds had 4 or 6 toggle switches that had to be thrown to the correct direction in order to start his car. This was a cheap solution to broken ignition switch. And we thought we were way cool, like starting a airplane.

I have seen them in Autozone and Kragen. If you do not see them ask.

I do not know how many of you saw my post that I have a Japanese exchange student living with us but I have really been getting a kick out of using him to translate the Japanese on the stickers that the Rice Boys place on their rides. So far we have one that was upside down and that meant loosely "bless this home" ROFL The other was the Japanese equivalent of the letters USA I will report more as they are translated :classic:

My son has a 72 510 and I told him about the good old days of push button starter switches. The result was a toggle switch (he was too cheap to by a push button) on the dash. Now my son is very inexperienced when it comes to wiring and he had no problems setting this up. All he did was find the wire that made the starter turn over. Very easy.

Sorry everyone, I would place the driver of the car an idiot beacause the video was shot on a public street with other vehicles. If a dum SOB hit me or my family while he was doing something so stupid and to be stupid enough to video tape it:stupid: . I would end up owning his car, home etc when I was done. I agree it is a cool car and I would sure like to drive / own / build it but I would not screw around when others could be effected.

I would just grab plugs out of any old Nissan product at the wrecking yard. I am sure they are standard.
