When exactly did rear sway bars begin being installed on 240's? I had thought they started with 260 (74 in USA). These two '72's I have here have me confused. One has nothing in the rear. The other has a rear-oriented sway bar installed AND as I was lurking around underneath noticed the brackets for a front-oriented bar are installed. Just the brackets (you know, the two pieces of metal welded to the frame, one with a slot for the retainer and the other threaded). So here's my questions: A. Why would these (front-oriented) brackets be installed (they look EXACTLY like the ones on a 280)? B. I am assuming both a front-oriented and rear-oriented sway bar would use the same holes in the control arms for end placement. BUT: If a custom sway-bar end rod could be created (and it seems easily possible if opposing deflection is not an issue) could TWO sway bars be installed on a 240? Would the geometry oppose each other? How much fore-to-aft deflection occurs at the sway bar mounting points? If there is a measurable amount of aft-deflection occuring at the rod ends of a rear-mounted end point and a measuable amount of deflection occuring at the ends of a forward-mounted end point, obviously they would fight each other and create an unsurmountable stress point at the rod ends. Kinda thinking out loud.......any thoughts? steve77

I weighed mine when they came off (77).....About 45 for the front with brackets and aobut 35 for the rear with brackets. steve77

Look out, people: I've got a '72 in my garage right now getting ready to go under the knife and get 'McConnell-ized' into another shaved original. Even skinny bumpers have to go. Haven't decided for sure on everything for the front (the rear is a no-brainer), but have been studying Works pix for the past year and may break down and integrate some sort of dam on this one. Going to be really utilitarian and no-frills. Again, some sort of billet grille treatment and thinking about using 1/8 AL plate for the dam with brake vents. Close second is fabbing some custom fibre-glas sweeper. Pictures at 11 steve77

I will visit ZCAR maybe once a month when REALLY bored just usually just to get a laugh, but generally I just end up shaking my head in bewilderment and thanking my lucky stars there is an intelligent alternative. C. I own a 280, so unless something has changed, they are not accepted for registration on ZHOME. Is that wha you are talking about? Seems they are not 'collectable'. The N47 consistently gets a bad rap. I have read several places something to the extent of, "...it is impossible to remove the liners without ending up with an incredibly f'ed-up head...." Now here's someone who has done it--with success. There are a ton of N47 laying around out here that nobody wants because they are "smog heads (with liners)." I would love to hear or read detailed descriptions from someone who has done it.....How far in there are they actually attached? What tools/approach was used to cut them out? steve77

This '73 I am thinking about keeping has a rear-orineted sway bar mounted on the rear. Looks like it has been there about 30n years. It also has the brackiets for a front-oriented rear sway bar welded to the frame. They are identical to the brackets on a 280Z--socket on one side and thread on the other that holds a flat peice of metal that holds the bushing in. There is no sway bar installed in the front-oriented position--just the empty brackets. The rear-oriented one is installed on the mustache bar/rear diffy cross member as you see quite a few 240's.... A. Can someone explain this? B. What would be wrong with installing a stock front-oriented sway bar in the brackets provided IN ADDITION to to the existing rear-oriented one? Yes, the ends may very well be in the same location, but this could be modified. steve77

Depends on which 'puter you have...Basically: No. Don't try to get more flow by switching to a turbo AFM. Just 'adjust' (internally) the N/A AFM. A Tubo TB and intake will help, but the AFM is just an adjustment. Search around...you'll see how to adjust... steve77

In the '72 I am tearing apart, it has normal looking Hitachi round-tops on it. Under the seat, I found an old For Sale sign listing everything on the car including "Two-barrel Jensen Carbs." Can someone explain this--or was the guy just stoned? steve77

Thought I had seen this discussed recently, but searched and found nothing....What was the original spare tire to come with the full-size spare models? In this case: Late 1972. I just bought two '72's and each has a spare in it that looks original. One is a Toyo and one is a Bridgestone. Both made in Japan and both Nylon corded. Are either of these original and if so, does anyone want them? steve77

Right rear wheel well is bad but the dogleg seam is not showing anything: (really out-of focus) Battery tray is about a 4 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst I have ever seen. Paint bubbling around the tray welds. Firewall is good. Hood is good (that's all dirt in the pic). Front valence brackets are rusty, but it's all going away if I keep it......Spare tire well is perfect, as are rear pockets at antennae and filler neck. steve77 (and maybe keeping this 72)

Hey, can I piggy-back in here on the subject?....I have torn numerous L's apart and at some point Nissan began putting--for lack of a better term--'flange stiffeners' around the oil pan. Two pieces of thicker, drilled metal about a 1/2 inch wide which go under the bolts around (roughly) two halves of the pan. Anyone know exactly when this started and why? I can't imagine them being added without a problem. steve77

They tells me I need protection from all sorts of things the goverment can pass laws to protect me from. They tells me it's my RIGHT! But then they talk about other folks' RIGHTS--people who do things that sound like their daddy didn't paddle them quite enough when they was growin up--and how the law or whoever is trampling on their RIGHTS. And when some of these people try to hurt us, we can't stop them because it would hurt their RIGHTS. So I'm a bit confused on this RIGHTS thingy. I just thought you just did what's RIGHT and let other people be.
