if anybody is interested I replaced my Michelin tires mxv4 size 205/60r15 with the new Continental tire true contact tour size 195/65r15 yesterday. it transformed my ride from a ruff stiff ride to a smooth glass like ride . well worth the change and no more feeling like I am in a go cart. the new continental tire is like 5 lbs a tire less in weight .
  2. well I have been wanting to do this for a long time, so now is the time to replace the manual antenna. anybody find a good quality power antenna for the early z cars. it seems like metro or retro sound is what I come up with on the net. would like to have something pretty reliable at least so any suggestions would help. kind regards
  3. thanks captain obvious for the follow-up on the old thread . from reading it I will leave my carbs alone as the brass plunger is submerged in the oil and that is where it all ways stays . Bruce made a good point there .
  4. yes I will give it a good cleaning and will let you know how I make out kind regards
  5. I did not take the carbs apart yet! I fill the oil between the 2 marks on the dip stick so it is between the low and the high mark. I did not want to take them apart yet as I was checking with other members here to see what there results were. I know if they are over filled the motor will burn off the excess oil and this seems to be where my oil level wants to stay all the time low .the oil I have came from motorsport auto years ago so maybe it might be a little thin? so any way I ordered a few days ago the 20w 3-1 oil will see if that will make a difference ? probably not!!!!
  6. hi mark ,I have resistance yes but not as much as you have .I fill them just above the inside tube where the dip stick pushes in . [ looking down in]
  7. I have a set of 1971 4 bolt carbs and it seems that my oil level in both never stay full. drive for several hundred miles and check the level and both are all ways just a little below the low mark on the damper plunger. like just above the round brass part on the plunger, is this normal for them to be at that level . thanks
  8. that is about the closest size to get to oem. the 195/65 r15 is 25" tall where the 205 /60 r15 is 24.7 tall the oem tire 195/70 r14 is 24.7 tall not much choices in the 205 may have to go with the 195
  9. anybody running this size 195/65 r15 tire ? I am looking for new rubber and currently have 205/60 r15 on the car but there is more of a choice in this 195/65r15 size to pick from. I think it will fit fine as it is just a tad taller and a tad thinner in width. looking for some comments on that size thanks
  10. thanks siteunseen for the comment . I have been looking also at the Michelin defender, it looks like a great choice also I think. there are not many choices in this size anymore .
  11. it is time for new rubber so I ask and what you people using today in this tire size for road only. I drive only nice days and want a good high performance touring tire that is quiet and smooth riding thanks
  12. does anybody know of any sites that I can lookup the history ,purchase date, and service records online for my z . just thought it might be interesting thanks kind regards'
  13. just something else to check look at the fuel filter mine had varnish in it after sitting for the winter 1 time and I changed it and it started and ran fine after that . on my 260z it is located back by the gas tank next to the fuel pump.
  14. pumping the peddle does nothing on these cars try either and make sure the choke is in full position , if the carbs are empty it will take some time to prime them . check spark also
  15. these bulbs are the wedge type with a glass base and has the wire for contact on each side of the base. they come in mini , small, medium, and large sizes. I would never have thought the mini is still being used and for sale in the auto stores today .
  16. no I do not think so the map light has metal prongs on each side if I remember and is much larger than the choke warning bulbs . the choke warning indicator bulb is about 3/16" wide at the base and about 1/2" tall and it just plugs into the holder. long story short I called advance auto and there was not listing for the car and msa does not have a listing or sell them either. so I took a trip to the local auto store with the mini wedge bulb and match it up to the Sylvania brand which comes in 1.3 watts or 1.4 watts so I lucked out .I did not think the auto stores would carry such a small bulb with todays cars. but thanks for all the help.
  17. found it I use a sylania # 74 bulb at 1.4watts
  18. 1974 early 260z
  19. also I have the glass bottom that # translate to a metal bottom?
  20. thanks david but who is the manufacture for that # I need the push in mini bulb
  21. looking for the part # to replace the dash console light bulbs for the choke and rear window defogger it is in front of the shifter with one on left and one on the right. no listing at msa and auto stores?
  22. well been going over this post in another thread maybe some new info here if anybody can help . I have 1 1983 f54 block and using a new oil dipstick 11140-p6502 . the dip stick measures 7" from the high mark to the rubber stop on the dip stick .I am only able to but in 4.25 qts of oil to reach the high mark so any suggestions?
  23. looking at the tubes it appears that they are the same yes , but it seems the sticks are a little different from your measurements . now motorsport auto shows the stick is interchangeable from 1970 -1983? this does not make sense either ,and the 2 books I have show different capacities also. if I went to exactly the top of the grid pattern on the oil stick I would have 4 quarts or maybe a tad more in the motor so maybe I should not lose sleep over 1/2 -3/4 of a quart?
  24. from the block up to the top of the tube is exactly 3". yes motorsport says interchangeable ?
