  1. I was hoping I could leave the front seat mounts in place and install the floor pan from underneath, I've done before with Charlie's pans, (Zedd Findings) but KFV's pans are such a tight fit that I had to remove it. Which is not a bad thing, they are showing some rust on the bottoms, now I can throw all 4 seat mounts into a 5 gal bucket of citric acid and clean them properly. I'll be working on one side at a time so as to ensure alignment doesn't go wonky.

No problem. That's the main character of a show from the 1980s called ALF. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALF_(TV_series) From that article:
  3. If a source could be found for the rivets then this might be a possibility for others to follow. I also suspect his press is pretty strong like 30 or 40 tons or more. It is also amazing how much movement he has even with the tight tolerances of the rebuilt hinge. I assume it's just a function of how many connections there are and the tolerance stacking

Culprit identified. This must have happened when the axles went in. Clearly the “5-Pound Hammer” method promoted on the Subaru forums is ill advised. I’m going to have to split the carrier open to really make sure there are no more bits in there. This is what I get for not using a press.
  5. Ditto. It would be awesome to have access to that little sand blaster, the lathes, sheet metal brake, Beverly shear, etc.
  6. He made those rivets on a lathe. You're not going to find them off the shelf anywhere. Someone would have to custom make them. And the machine he uses to peen the rivets is more than a simple straight down press. It's more like an impact hammer and press combined together to swage the rivets. If you listen, you can hear the buzzing sound of the impact. This guy has access to lots of machines. And your comment about the tolerance stackup is spot on. Each connection needs a tiny bit of clearance in order spin and the stackup causes that play. I've got machine shop envy.

Im in the same boat and just took a shot on these for a 6/71. So many of the suggestions are un-obtanium right now https://www.ebay.com/itm/296003032811 I should have mine in a few days to see if they work.
  8. Hello all, I would like to do a little advertising for this channel here. One of my Z friends is restoring a 240Z and has a very special way of documenting it. I think you will all be very interested and it is super relaxing to watch. In general, this is a very exciting channel!
  9. Thanks for sharing this, it was an intoxicating watch. The first video exemplifies what I love about these cars - that those of us with above average mechanical aptitude can take these cars apart with a good metric toolset. Putting them back together, well, that's what the FSM and thousands of digital photos are for.

Beautiful cats, tell them I'm very sorry. I knew it was a mistake as soon as I hit submit. A lot of members have cats so apologies to all. It's a ping pong ball I think.

I had a cat hanging there but it started to smell.
