  1. 5 points
Finally, after dozens of orders, I struck gold (or yellow) with the magnet.
  2. Well, I own 14 Z cars, although some are not complete, and at present only two are in a state where they could be running and driving with minimal effort. I’m retiring January 5, and the plan is to get busy assembling and tuning. Oh, and selling off the ones that are essentially a title, vin tag and data plates.
  3. Pretty sure this would be termed as a two-piston design, common to S30's. A single piston is common to most recent cars with a floating caliper design.
  4. The 2+2 NA ZX and the ZXT both had a 240mm clutch the earlier and 2+0 NA ZX had a 225mm clutch. That kit reads to me like it fits both. To me that would mean Z Car Source was selling all 240mm clutches in the "kit" as they will fit the earlier cars, but not the other way around. IE: a 225mm clutch would not work well in the 2+2 or Turbo ZX. If you are dropping the transmission again ^^ it would be another item to check, 225mm vs 240mm. I put a 240mm in my 70 240, and used the ZX 2+2 collar, works fine.
  5. I'm driving now for 22 years on points with my 240z and last year i put in some new points after 25000+ km's.. Not because it ran bad.. just to be sure it's good.. The old ones were still nice.. if i hear all the trouble with pertronix i'll never buy that junk.. My 240z left me ones standing beside the road.. and that was because it had no fuel.. going up the hill !! 😂
  6. Ok great, good to know. I have a feeling the 'show signatures' option is new and it defaulted to off. So you'll have to switch it on manually. I'm trying to see if there's a way I can turn it back on for every user in certain groups. We'll see how it goes... m
  7. Here's a fun little detail seen on the early cars. The rear light pods were affixed from the rear of the car (sometimes using sheet metal screws?), so they could be removed from behind and outside. I imagine there were several reasons for this: surely, to facilitate the changing of a bulb without having to open and unload the trunk. Perhaps also: to provide an easy way to swap out the entire assembly, should it be damaged during the rally. I'm not entirely confident that the lights were always affixed with screws, as I have not seen them affixed this way on another car. For example, the included picture of an earlier car does not appear to have screws, but it does have the quick-change rear panel installed. From what I can see with my car: they appear to be original to the car, or at least installed in-period. That said, it's possible that the lights were held in place using other means, such as being just loosely glued in place, and could therefore be pulled off by hand, without tools. But this is just a guess. From what I can tell, all the rally cars campaigned in 1970 and 1971 had this feature. I don't exactly know with what car the practice ceased, but around late 1971, Nissan stopped fitting a rear panel which could accommodate this feature. I assume they also eliminated the "external-change" feature along with it, but perhaps they just eliminated the custom rear panel. Another possibility is that the feature remained, but that Nissan perhaps altered the lenses to be removable from the housing. Again, this is just speculation. If someone is willing to go tug on the rear lenses of Nissan's cars and see what happens, perhaps we can get a few answers!
  8. Actually, I think it is staying on, at least for the moment. Because signatures don’t show on a mobile device (like my iPhone) and I forgot about that detail, I made the above post while browsing from my phone thinking signatures were switched off. On my iPad now, which behaves more like a laptop or PC, and the signatures show.
  9. I hope to sell all of the ones outside. All but one has a title, and getting a title for that one should be easy considering how long it has been since it was last registered. The 280ZX, a 280Z, and a 240Z we’re running when I parked them 18 years ago. A couple of the others look like some heavy snow was unkind to the roofs. I’ll be able to make a better assessment after I get them away from the back wall of the shop and cleaned up a bit. I have 5 complete cars inside, and hope to keep them all, but time will tell . . . . . . . The brown 72 I’m keeping for sure, as well as the race Z. I also have a low number 240Z, 6/70 manufacture date, vin 5957, but it doesn’t have the original engine, and is in rough shape. I also have a 280Z, yellow, with louvers, I suspect it is one of those Zapp cars.
  10. Yes the 4 speed was at 12:00 and the ZX (generalization) was at 6:00. The pinion gear itself is the same for both but the holder was different as you noted. Cutting a slot was the least expensive way of application. The other option was to buy a new holder. You can still get them from Nissan. At least last I checked. As long as it doesn't leak you should be fine. No one can really see it with the car on the ground wheel side down. 😁
  11. Are you selling the ones with the trees growing through them, or are you parting those out? And congratulations on the upcoming retirement. I envision retiring in about 8 years and working more and more on Z cars myself.
  12. I do have some play in the clutch pedal. Seems like I only have one choice now, remove the transmission and check throwout bearing collar
  13. The speedometer hole is the same as the fill plug so it shouldn't leak out. Maybe a drop or two. When you get the seal and o-ring done leave some clean paper under there overnight to make sure it's stopped leaking. Seems like I had to use a deep well 10mm socket to get the seal all the way down.
