  1. I certainly don't know of any exceptions. All the Works LHD 240Z rally cars that I'm aware of had the transposed handbrake lever position and a bias valve. This was eventually paired with a 'Fly Off' function for fast Special Stage starts and - later - hydraulic actuation. There were even double servo cars. Strong and effective hand brakes are still one of the black arts of fast rally driving. On the S30 its not that simple, as the whole mechanism needs to be mirror-imaged as well as the tunnel sheetmetal for the mounts. It also required custom a console. I've been replicating all this on my LHD Works car 'evocation'/'tribute' (or whatever it is...) and it takes some doing. Perhaps this is a clue as to why Nissan didn't go to the trouble of having two different handbrake/E-brake lever positions for the production cars.
  2. Getting back to the glove box discussion: I finally took a picture of the glove box from HLS30-00026. It's a universal type glovebox and 26th is a 'U' not a 'UV' but just the same for glove boxes.
  3. Rebuild completed. See attached photos. I had to find another original after stripping the threads in one of the screw holes. I used the cap from my original since it was better. Vapor blasted and then reassembled using the JDM parts rebuild kit. I got fresh inlet and outlet from a GMB replacement pump. Found some fresh correct zinc coated screws on eBay. Once things warm up, I can get it installed on car. FYI…for those of you considering this, The internals in the replacement pumps are pretty much the same as the parts you get in the rebuild kit. You can save yourself just shy of $100 by using the parts from a replacement pump. Jim
  4. Hi Gavin, I think I made you confused , sorry . It is not a new thing, a wheel cap from autumn 1971 . Some one said it looks like a scallop motif design, I think so too, so I said it is a scallop type wheel cap . As a side note , Fairlady 240Z (HS30S ) doesn’t have black wiper arms and blades , it was silver like other cars . I really love the blue Fairlady 240Z-L , Resided in the US . It is just like a car in the brochure. In the same brochure, there is a phantom view of a Fairlady 240Z-L drew by Mr. Inomoto . He did many art work for Nissan , one of my favorite is a big poster of Z432 . I am feeling some connection with my Z432 because when my Z432 was featured in a magazine in 1974 , this drawing was featured on back side of my car. Kats
  5. You could bring it down to my place for me to look at.

Grab your fan blade and wiggle it front to back. If there is any movement at all, the water pump is bad and needs to be replaced.

Coolant. If the seal goes bad, it weeps out the weep hole.
  8. That's a pretty basic kit. EDIT: that's pretty much a float chamber rebuild kit. It won't get into the carb. I would find a better one if I was going to rebuld mine. I used ztherapy's and got the instructional dvd free. Zcardepot has a good one too. Here's a basic write up and video link that will show where what goes. https://www.google.com/amp/s/zcarguide.com/rebuilding-cleaning-datsun-240z-su-carburetors/%3famp=1
  9. I thought about it later and figured that was what you meant. Did Fairlady 240Z-S come with steel wheels only? Not hubcaps? Here is another 240Z-L that found its way into Australia but it's a later 73 model. So the blue is different. https://goo.gl/photos/ouLBkiFBY2c2SkbL9 It doesn't have the black wipers but possible a lot was changed over the years.
  10. All the period Works 240ZR pictures that I have of perhaps 6-7 LHD cars show that the LHD Works cars sported consoles with left-side handbrakes. Period pictures I have of RHD cars naturally show the handbrakes remaining on the right side. Perhaps there are exceptions to this protocol, but I am not aware of them personally.
  11. Oops! The car has demonstrated a desire to pull to the left at freeway speeds. It isn't too bad, but it's noticeable. I put an IR thermometer in the car so I could check the brakes after a drive. Sure enough, the left brake was about 30 degrees or so warmer than the right. I bought some rebuilt calipers, rotors and pads. They arrived, and I set about changing the brakes today. No problems on the left with disassembly, though I realized I should have purchased new slider pins. At least I had plenty of cotter pins handy. I got new rotor mounted and went to put on the caliper...but it wouldn't go over the mounting holes on the spindle. I called up a friend who suggested they might be 280Z rotors (FYI: 260Z rotors are the same as 280Z). No, it couldn't be that. I knew I selected 240Z parts when I was on Rockauto. Measurements don't lie. The hats on the old rotors were definitely taller. (And there was enough of a groove toward the edge that I wasn't going to try turning them.) I double checked the part on Rockauto, and I picked up on the key detail I missed before. It said the rotors were for AFTER 8/73. In other words, they had 260Z rotors under the 240Z listing. D'oh! Anyway, I found the correct rotors at Summit Racing. They also have them at the Georgia location, so they should get here in a couple of days. I also ordered some new bolts and other brake hardware from ZCarDepot since it would be a good idea to replace all of that, too. Delayed gratification, but no real damage.
  12. This is another example, we see “ 2,4 L(cursive) DX “ on it . I imagined when workers saw this chalk markings, they would have had been reminded that cars needed black wiper blades, scallop style wheel caps, horizontal bar type front grille . However , don’t need over fenders, G -nose , gun metallic rear bumper with full rubber guards. 6.45 -14 applied, 175 HR14 is for 240ZG only. Oh , after October 1971 Fairlady 240ZG/240Z-L/ Z-432 and Fairlady Z-L were equipped with an auto seeking radio coupled with an 8 track stereo. Fairlady 240Z and Fairlady Z were equipped with a manual tuning radio ( not a stereo) and manual extension antenna. Fairlady Z S30S (simple? ,basic ?) Fairlady Z-L S30 ( Luxury ) Fairlady 240Z HS30S (simple ? basic ?) Fairlady 240-L HS30 (Luxury) Fairlady 240ZG HS30H (High speed ?G-nose) Fairlady Z-432 PS30 ( Prince? S20 engined) Fairlady Z-432R PS30SB ( Special Bersion / typical Japanese phonetic ) And more variations for regular gasoline/ air conditioner/ automatic transmission. Nissan used different coding in a parts catalog and for workers at assembly line . Please see attached picture. DX comes from “Z-dx “ , which is used for S30 / HS30 / PS30 . The glove box came from a Fairlady 240Z-L . So , “2.4 L DX “ is a short and simple identification but very much telling deep specific configuration . Very complicated for us ,maybe for workers too… Kats
