Hi Guys - looks like "The Z Car Home Page" at ZHome.com is back on-line now.. thanks, Carl
  2. Well, I took a gamble and decided to leave them alone. I could see the o-ring when pulled the striking rod out as far as possible. It looked fine to me. I guess was I’ll find out later if this was the right call. I’m going to be gone for work for over a week and I wanted to get this back together before something got lost. I have three kids and a very small garage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. It's not clearly should in any of the nissan manuals, but the pointy springy bit should point to the back of the transmission.
  4. Hi Mart, Looks like your car has been coming along nicely. I think you are right about changes in the years, 79-81 seem to be similar, and then 82-83 are their own style. This 82 is the only one I have an opportunity to take apart. I have seen 79's at the JY but did not pay attention to the windshield. In my 79 parts list they show two fastener strips (upper and Lower). The upper lists one > July 81 and another aug 81 > although they show the same picture. The lower is shown as all the same. Both slides show the plastic clips from your next picture but the descriptions are missing from the list (indicating NLA?) Sorry I don't have clear answers for you. I never took the bottom stainless off, I will see if I can pull that this weekend to see what is under there. Keep up the great work.......
  5. Creative thinking, but having the shaper (and hopefully a broach close to what I need?) I don't think it would save me much. I'd still have to put the slot in the inner piece and for that, I'd use the shaper. Would be a little easier since I could do it as an external operation instead of internal, but not enough to warrant two pieces and welding. I'm not stifling the creativity though! Certainly a way to make use of the tools you have to accomplish the task in a different way. And I like your pic a lot. I wish I had a CAD package I could use to whip up stuff like that! I'm still drawing by hand! LOL!
  6. Only thing I see is cars getting heavier and fatter and more hp to counter that. Why not go '' back to basics '' 1000kg car, with a modern 2.4 liter N/A and a 6 speed manual ? It's not all about the horsepower.. It's cool going up in numbers but eventually you end op with a 9 liter displacement Z car ? But sadly that's not possible because of modern safety regulations ? , requiring all that safety and electronic crap adding weight to the car.
  7. .100 deep it shall be. And two flats.
  8. Did some paint repair while I wait for parts to show up. Some wet sanding and polishing.
  9. i'll split it with you. I think we both get half of nothing...
  10. GMB should pay zKars a substantial sum. If they follow up on what he found he probably saved a large percentage of their business. The valving design is common to many many other brands. It's all right there in his thread. The work has been done.
