  1. Had to take a break! There's football game on I'd like to watch. First lesson I learned today is a Sharpie marker isn't suitable for this. I used my Dremel to make a scratch in the glass all the way around. 2nd one was my work table is crookeder than my teeth. Here's what I have set-up for Sunday morning, water hose is laying beside my chair in case of a fire. If anyone could add some advice I would appreciate it. This is just from eyeballing the tang from pictures I found on the internet. Prior to matching pictures they were waaaaaaay too high, I was driving on drips of fuel. Now I'm just a few millimeters off. In the morning they'll be perfect at 23mm. Thanks for everybodies help. Cliff
  2. Good question. Let me add a couple questions to that. Why would the filler neck need an overflow tube when the upper opening serves the purpose by spilling gas down the side of the car and onto the ground? Could #18 be a vapor recovery hose for the fumes in the filler neck? So many hoses, so many questions to ponder as we head into the New Year. Dennis
  3. I have the same problem... Websites are becoming so loaded with "features" to provide a better "user experience" or some bull like that. Problem is the websites that take advantage of those advanced features (like flash, etc) won't even load right without them. So the people who don't want to allow that kind of stuff are scrod. I just want websites to load fast and work. I don't need videos. I don't need hover over. I just want fast, secure, and simple.
  4. Anybody out there noticed a new type of ad that pops up in the middle of a column of text while you're reading and plays a little video? Not on CZCC but other web sites, like the newspaper sites. Over the last few months I've spent more time clicking the little X in the upper right corner than actually reading. They seem to be everywhere. Can't think of a more annoying way to advertise a product. I blocked Flash in Chrome and they're gone. It even stopped autoplay videos on ESPN, a massive bonus. Edit - I knew this would happen. They came back. Never mind. It's probably javascript. The internet is messing with me. ESPN autoplay is still fixed. Edit 2 - Disabled javascript and the ads stopped but so did a bunch of other stuff. Some sites won't even load up. It's like they're all saying **** you, you'll watch our ads or you'll get nothing. I'm going to run lean, no ads, and some sites not accessible and see how internet life changes. I'm betting it will be better. Those video ads were killing me.
  5. If I'm wrong I apologize but doesn't the filler tube have an overflow hose that connects to the vapor tank? I've overfilled mine a couple of times and the fumes were much stronger inside the cabin. Wouldn't there be a small amount of liquid fuel in there until it evaporates? I've learned to be more careful and not fill it until the gas pump shuts off. Number 18 in this drawing.
  6. I'm playing around with my float levels also, if you can call it "playing". It's a PITA to me. I rebuilt mine after watching the ztherapy video. Set the floats as they show on said video, WAY OFF! After reading the world wide web plus a little more I found where ztherapy says to not do it the way the video shows, different valves won't hold the float up to measure .55" from inverted lid to float roof like I had mine. Now the way is to let the float dangle down and slowly push up until you can't blow through the supply line. I think I finally read where it should measure somewhere between 11mm 14mm from float roof to the lid. I decided to scratch all that and put the float and lid on top of a small glass. Measure down 23mm from the inside bottom of the lid, down the glass and make a mark. Pour gas through the supply and get the floats at the 23mm line on the glass. Here's where I got the idea, thanks @Jeff G 78 Oh yeah, when you're fooling with filling the float chambers a lot, I've found that removing the plugs and taking the coil wire off works fast and best for me. Mr Warner's way also works good but I haven't removed my valve cover.

  8. Done with that part! Did a little more shaping of the gauge pods and the curved section and at some point you gotta say it's good enough. And now, it's finally good enough. I'll shoot some emails to some local vinyl wrappers and see if anyone would even want to take this on, but probably will be ordering the flocking stuff.

  10. Why? Just curious about your thought process on this project. Believe it, or not, the coolant in your radiator won't know the difference between a Nissan OEM made in Japan and a Stant made in the USA. Dennis

  13. The welds are supposed to be seam welds but are the closest I could get inside the piece with my mig gun. They are there to "gusset" the corners or "folds" to reinforce them. Remember, I had to score the folds with a cutoff disc in order to bend them first. This way, they will be stronger and will withstand more pressure or small impacts and hold their shapes better and longer.

  17. Not trying to be condescending here. There's are a lot of great/experienced/knowledgeable and (mostly) "adult like" people on this forum. Along with that, I would guess a pretty wide age range also. They take Z's seriously. So It really helps to be specific when questions are asked. That way, we can specifically answer them. Pictures can tell more of the story and provide pieces to a puzzle, like a photo of your engine bay could tell us tons of info to begin with without having to ask if it's turbo, v6, inline 6, or even steroid enhanced hamsters. FB has a few Z pages where people talk all kinds of stuff from coilovers to LS swaps and maybe that's what you're looking for. But it's really hard to get good, reliable information and suggestions there. It's also really easy to get a load of BS info from folks who don't know what they are talking about. This is the good stuff here. Also, spell check really helps guys like me. Your ZX looks very nice by the way.
  18. Hello everyone. I am in the Navy and have been away from home for about 6 months. I finally got shore duty orders so won't be going underway for the next 3 years. It is good to finally be home. I am ready to get going on this project again. Since I have been gone I have changed my minds on a few things. We will get into all that soon, but for now I wanted to say it is good to be back and stay tuned we are about to get busy. Clay
  19. I'm going to try and set my total timing today after finally getting the fuel levels right. Does this sound right? 1. idle at 750 rpms 2. plug vacuum hose 3. set to 17 degrees 4. set light offset to 34 degrees 5. run it up to 3,000 rpms 6. adjust distributor until "0" pulley mark hits on light strobes Thanks for any advice and my ZX distributor has 8.5 stamped on the weights. EDIT, I have know idea what pinging sounds like so I'm using my high dollar light.
  20. This is a very promising idea like someone said above. I half assed it am happy enough to put it back in until I do a full restore. I want to drive! Some taped over the crack and come in from the bottom side with the ABS cement and it works like a charm. Like I said, with a little more effort I could have made the cracks unnoticeable. (I think )
  21. Hi Clay, Just a heads-up on bolts for your car, stainless steel especially. The local Marshall's Hardware in Mira Mesa has just about any fastener you could possibly need. It is one of my most favorite places on earth and I visit there all the time. It makes Home Depot or Auto Part stores look like a push cart by comparison.   22. Don't forget the front bowl level needs to be 2 mm lower than the rear to compensate for the engine tilt (so the fuel level in the nozzles is the same). Checked mine last December with the micrometer and got the same 3 mm from the ceiling to bottom of the lid. Set the rear 23 - 3 = 20 mm from bottom of lid, front 25 - 3 = 22 mm down. My front bowl was 9 mm too low before I fixed it with the sight glass.
