Datsun 240Z Registry of America - Phillip A. Ray

Just saw this on an eBay listed high dollar 240Z.  Anybody ever heard of it?  Who is Phillip A. Ray?

An official looking document that says that a car has been officially registered.  I wonder how much you have to pay to get "registered".

It's a FaceBook registry. There is a 260Z and a 280Z one as well.

After you  join their group (free) they supply you this certificate, and offer to sell a sticker for your car. ($4)

You can buy a deluxe certificate with a hi res pic of your car for $20

Carl's list is a lot bigger and more accurate I'm sure. Carl is in the Group.

Phillip Ray is the FB group originator. (admin)

Thanks jfa.  Here's where I saw it, linked below, on an eBay sale.  Overall, it makes a person realize how strange things are getting, with the internet.  Facebook used to be a weird place where you shared bad pictures and gossiped, and eBay was where people sold their odd old junk.  Now Facebook is where people claim authority over various concerns, and cars and other things are selling for 10's of thousands of dollars on eBay.

Here's links to the "Registry" clubs.  There's two, a public one and a private one.  Notice also, typical Facebook "joining" is needed to see the actual Registry, the list of cars, if it exists.  There's nothing on the Public page of any value.

What about people who aren’t on Faceplant and don’t wish to be on it?

I’m not signing up with Faceplant just to get my 14 Z cars on a registry.

Phil's a great guy, despite being an Aub. His registry is legit and well curated. I think he's in it for the info, not just the likes, if that makes any difference. Facebook is just a good way to cast a wide net. If anyone doesn't want to join FB but wants to join the registry, I'll be glad to pass the info on to him for inclusion. I believe there are many cars registered there owned by non-facebookers.

There's no value in the certificate posted, the seller is simply using that as a marketing tactic.  I have my Zs registered on both ZHome (Carl Beck) as well as the Facebook group (Phillip).  Both are free, neither add one cent of value to the car.  They are just as advertised, a registry to help preserve data on Z cars knows to currently exist or data of ones known to have gone to Z heaven.  😉  Great info to have available, I've used both in research my self.

@Racer X, don't join Facebook just for this...no reason for that, Carl's registry has been around far longer (and both seem to serve the same purpose).
