Just wanted to show some of the work I've been doing on my Z to fix some thoroughly rusted floorpans and rockers. It is still very much in-progress but I'll try to update as it goes on. Hopefully it'll be of help to someone as a reference, or at least encourage folks to give it a shot. If you see anything wrong with the approach, please let me know! Some quick background: The car is a '75 that I picked up in KY a few years back. Since then I fixed the fuel system and got it running, squared away the suspension (new bushings, shocks, springs, hubs, etc etc). But that is where my skill set ran out; never welded and never done resto work. Kept trying to find a sh…

This is an old topic, but not satisfactorily answered. I am trying to install new Front Door Seals I received from ZCarSource. These look much different from the MSA seals that were on there, and of course I can't remember what the original factory seals looked like. Here is a photo of the front of door, and of the seal layed on top for reference. I found some photos here (https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39768-front-door-seal-pics/?do=findComment&comment=357725) from 11 years ago. The replies conflicted - some said the rubber tabs tuck under, and others said they're glued on top. Also, the smaller rubber seal that I show encircled in …

I have had a problem with exhaust getting into the cabin of my 240 HLS30 28726. I used a theatre fog machine to find where it was coming in, and found minor leaks around the right tail light, the license plate light and the antenna. Got them all fixed. The remaining problem, and the biggest, is the hatch seal. While the hatch itself is a good fit and well aligned, I'm getting leaks on both sides, but not the top or bottom. The seal itself is only a few years old and has very few miles. The material remains malleable. I believe I got it from the now-defunct Black Dragon Automotive. Can anyone tell me if there varying quality seals out there? Any to avoid, o…

When I disassembled my doors, I just ripped all the plastic sheeting away, and assumed the FSM would help me with reinstallation photos. The FSM only makes mention of a 'water seal screen', with no diagrams or photos. The parts suppliers don't seem to offer any replacements. If it's just mylar sheeting, I can cut that out myself if I know what size it should be and where it should go. My doors also had individual thicker plastic covers over the individual inner door openings. It's possible that I added those myself, but I don't think so. Thanks in advance...Robert

Any downsides to tack welding nuts behind the sheet metal for ZG flares instead of using rivnuts? Car is still in primer. I was thinking of drilling holes slightly oversized and using flange nuts to give more area to weld to. Is there room to fish a flange nut between outer and inner sheet metal on the rears after the first cut on the outer skin? For the fronts I think it's pretty straightforward. Any comments?

Can someone help me out with 2 measurements? The panel gap between my hood and headlight buckets appears excessive. Can someone put a tape measure across the dimensions “A” and “B” in the photo below. Please measure the INTERIOR surface dimension, not outer edge. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm trying to achieve nearly "perfect panels" on the 240z I am restoring. I had many months where I couldn't move forward because the hardware was off to be plated. Recently, I received the fender bolts, washers, etc. So, I have mounted the fenders. I used close cell foam in the locations that the factory used foam strips on the inner fender support and backside of the fender. Interestingly, this weather stripping caused the flat expanse of the fender behind the front wheel wheel to bow out slightly. Something I have learned with these cars is that the sheet metal "moves" in various areas, either from foam supports behind, or from tightening down the fasteners.…

Ok I know this should be in the classifieds, but I tried it there and the I only got responses from every foreign and domestic scammer. Some who have been members for only 2 or 4 hours. Anyway...I've been looking for a left front fender for a 73 240Z for about the last year and a half. I wasn't really too worried about it because I had plenty of other things to do on the car and was sure something would turn up by the time I needed it. It hasn't. I'm approaching the point where it's going to bring my entire restoration project to a halt. If anyone has a usable left front fender they can part with please contact me. I'm not looking for one in pristine condition, just…

I just noticed that KF Vintage JDM have introduced a few new repair panel items. Two are items for which Z restorers have been waiting a long time to be able to buy over the counter: Dogleg inner repair panel, c/w seat belt anchoring point Rad core replacement kit, c/w top panel, lower crossmember and main vertical panel

Hey all, As I understand it, most body components are interchangeable between different S30 models. I notice there's a Radiator Core Support for sale from KF Vintage and they only list it for the 240Z... Does anyone know if this is also usable on the 280Z? They don't seem to have one listed for the 280Z but maybe it isn't a problem? https://kfvintagejdm.com/shop/datsun/radiator-support-kit/ Mine is not too terrible to patch up, but I'm considering replacing it anyway.
