So yesterday I decide it's time to change out all my coolant hoses and heater hoses etc. I got the "while I'm at its" so I buy a new thermostat. The one I was going to replace turns out to be a Nissan O.E. brass type 180 degree. My local dealer wants $28.00 for a new one, so I bought a replacement at O'reilly also 180 degree. I install the new one and my car immediately reads hotter on the temp gauge by probably 20 degrees from at least two needle widths left of center line to 1-2 needle widths right of center line. I think, well, maybe I've got an air bubble. I leave the car on my driveway which is a pretty good incline and then jack up the front just to make sure…

All-- I was recently fortunate enough to purchase a NOS ashtray assembly for my Series 2 (73) 240Z. In the past we've had discussions about the surface finish of the sliding lid and how difficult it is to restore that when it has been damaged. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to treat the surface so as to prevent it from oxidizing/tarnishing/staining/marring?? :bulb: I don't intend to use it for it's purpose, but do intend to install it in the car. Any ideas or thoughts are welcome!!! Jim D. "Zup"

Does anyone know if the firewall insulation that MSA sells will fit the 280z? Msa titles it as fitting only the 240z. Would there be major modification to it to fit the 280z??

I need the hard water (coolant) line that runs along the front of the valve cover. It is the line that supplies coolant to the block under the air regulator on top of the intake manifold. Mine has a pin hole and I can't locate where exactly. It is corroded and I'm not sure it is worth fixing. So I'm hoping to find someone with a parts car or such that can sell me one that is in great shape. Please let me know. Thanks. Bob

I'd never seen one of these, figured I'd share.... The description is erroneous, but this might be a good way to get your kids into a Z car... http://nashville.craigslist.org/rvs/2339722096.html

I've been having a hard time with replacing fasteners and a few hose clamps. I didn't originate from the area I live in now and don't know the salvage yards well enough to find another Z any help? PA, DE, Maryland, southen NY, and NJ locations will work. I've called all the salvage yards several times, I'm about to make a trip west to get the parts if I can't find them hear.

There is a 1977 280Z on ebay now that says it is a "ZZZAP" special edition with a decal delete http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-77-280Z-ZZZAP-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3cb6b12345QQitemZ260763099973QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks#v4-39. To me that just makes it a 411 Sun Yellow 280Z, but the interesting thing is it has what looks to be a customized plaque on the console that says: 1977 Datsun 280-Z HLS30 385188 Customer Order Production Model For Sam S. Melnick Nissan Motor Co., LTD. Yokohama, Japan April 1977 I've never seen a plaque like that before on any S30, but it looks like it could be authentic. I didn't think any US market S30s could be custom ord…

This car is either mis-listed as a '71, or some '71s came with hatch vents and '70 sail panel emblems, but I am certainly no expert on early Zs. Anyway... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1971-DATSUN-240Z-VERY-CLEAN-ITS-AGE-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c1b0f7d22QQitemZ120713084194QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks

Since we've all cooled down about the Z car listed at 38K, I would like to say that while I'm a Z owner only for 9 months, I've been a pro musician/guitar buyer/seller/collector for almost 5 decades, so I do have some experience with mid-level collectibles. Which the Z car in general and the Z car in question may or may not be. There are guitars selling for 6 figure amounts that sold for $300 in 1959. There are electric guitars in the mid-5 figures that sold for $250 in 1962. What it takes is someone who has so much money that those figures are capricious to raise the bar to levels unheard of by normal folk. There are many, many, young and mid-aged people making great mon…
