cooling fan blade condition
Here is the link for the fan blade at ZCD. I have always felt their shipping was kind of high priced, but that would also be part of the price. I would be about half of that price but it would be a used fan. I would check for cracks if interested but all will show some wear. They show an 8 blade and I have seen 7 blade fans as well. I don't know anything about ZCD's fans (no link provided) but @Terrapin Z might have an original fan in good condition. Yours does look in bad shape, although I've never heard of a plastic Datsun fan exploding.

I had also sent a message to silodrome using their contact form Contact Us - Silodrome letting them know about the build date and that looking at the car it probably had 107000 miles on the clock rather than the 7000 in the article. I'd bet that the Ben guy that wrote the article didn't know that the odometer has only 5 digits.

cooling fan blade condition
Hi guys, Can you please review the pictures of my radiator fan ('76 280z) and let me know if I should replace it with a new one from zcardepot? I am seeing some cracks and am afraid the fan can explode taking out my radiator and my hall sensor which is sitting within a few millimeters from it. The fan clutch is showing some resistance while free moving it. I'd like to stick with the mechanical one since it has been cooling my car pretty well. I have a stock fan shroud. Thanks!

I sent the barn find seller a message through eBay. I also sent a message to the Silodrome publication pointing out the manufacturing date. The author of that article apparently didn't even look at his own pictures. I think the eBay seller might just be a consignment shop. Doesn't really know what they're selling, and is selling the hype instead. Very weird that the person sells mostly $5 to $30 stuff and suddenly has a $50,000 item up. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?item=226925718575&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l161211&_ssn=auctionhouse-25 From eBay discussion: New message from: auctionhouse-25 (6) Okay, thank you for the information Reply Your previous message It's well known in the 240Z world that the VIN's vary. Just trying to help you out. Nissan stamps the Manufacture date on the plate as the car is being manufactured. It was built in late 1970. That's just the reality. Good luck. the ID plate clearly shows that the date of manufacture is 9/70, not 1969 auctionhouse-25: VIN HLS30-10683 please look up the vin # Your previous message Hey, the ID plate clearly shows that the date of manufacture is 9/70, not 1969. 1970 Datsun 240Z

I have taken the time to research this on the Japanese side, trawling through numerous Japanese market factory parts manuals for Nissan models made during the 1960s and early 70s period. I found some pointers. Dates quoted are the dates for the publication of the parts manual concerned: *Model 31 Nissan Cedric - 1963 - Both Zinc and Cadmium protective coatings applied to fasteners/components. *Model 310 Nissan Cedric - 1964 - Both Zinc and Cadmium protective coatings applied. *Model 410 Bluebird - 1964 - Both Zinc and Cadmium applied. Then, *B10 Sunny - 1966 - Zinc. *510 Bluebird - 1967 - Zinc. *T44 Nissan Miler (ex-Prince) - 1968 - Zinc. *T65 Nissan Clipper (ex Prince) - 1968 - Zinc. *Model 60 Nissan Patrol - 1968 - Zinc. *521 Pickup - 1968 - Zinc. *C30 Nissan Laurel - 1968 - Zinc. *A30 Nissan Gloria (ex Prince) - 1968 - Zinc. *SR311 Fairlady - 1968 - Zinc. *130 Nissan Cedric - 1969 - Zinc. *C10 Skyline - 1969 - Zinc. *C20 Vanette - 1970 - Zinc. *GC10 Skyline - 1971 - Zinc. *A-321 Cabstar - 1971 - Zinc. ...so, judging from the above, it seems likely that Nissan's use of Cadmium for protective coatings was discontinued around 1965. I also searched factory parts manuals of Prince Motor Co products (Prince were forcibly merged with Nissan in 1966) but they carry no data on protective coatings for their parts. Your move.

Probably true. The barn find is in a dry state but that seems like a lot of money for a project car... Yes, based on the BaT price it might be in the ballpark

Hmmm... Seems like it should be worth at least as much as the 10/70 "project" 1971 Datsun 240Z Series I Project that was on BAT a couple weeks ago. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-359/ That one went for over $13K with a non-matching engine and poorly installed replacement floor pans. I'm thinking If that "barn find" thing on ebay has the original engine and floors, it should be worth more than the one that went on BAT?

There's overspray on the data plate! Lots of other issues with the car. The market is pretty weak right now. It's not going to bring 15k much less 50k!

Just now looked at the pictures of this car. Uh, yeah... no. Nope. Much of the sellers description is inaccurate. Garrett

Yeah, there's all kinds of things wrong with the description of that car. At the top of my list (besides the build date) is the claim about original paint. In my humble opinion, we're looking at a 9/70 (probably titled as a 1971) 240Z wearing a poorly done repaint. Probably with 107K miles. Don't get me wrong... It certainly has great potential. But it's not a very early car barn find with original paint and just 7K miles.

And I'm probably going to end up with a generic powder fire extinguisher. Yes, they are messy, but they're so ubiquitous and easy to get. I'm thinking if things get dire enough that I have to use it, the last thing I'm going to be concerned with is the mess.

Saw this on my news feed 1970 Datsun 240Z | eBay Found it this article Incredible Barn Find: An Early Datsun 240Z With Just 7,000 Miles The listing claims the car was built in '69, but the tag in the door looks like 9/1970 which is more in line with its VIN HLS30-10683. Right off the top the shift knob doesn't appear to be wood as it should be.
