Kagy and I will be arriving there Tuesday the 14th and leaving Sunday the 19th . Staying at the Hilton . I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and putting a face and handshake with some of this forum's usernames. Sounds like a great idea to get the CZCC gang together. I second the nomination of SteveJ--- Counting down the dayZ--- :: Jim D. "Zup"

Very nice indeed! Mark, you are so fortunate---but then so is the car. It's great for both of you that you've come together in time and space. Love that Z car and it will love you back. Regarding your "sticky" ignition---don't forget that there is a steering wheel lock that should engage when the key is removed. Try wiggling the steering wheel slightly after you have inserted the key into the ignition and see if the key will then turn smoothly into the start position. It may also be that you should squirt a bit of white graphite onto the key and then insert it into the ignition. Do this several times, as it will "dry" lubricate the tumblers in the ignition cylinder. Maybe it will help. Congratulations Mark on your exceptional find and welcome to the best site in the world for knowledge regarding early Z cars and friendship with Z enthusiasts! Spiffy it up and meet with us in Memphis in July for ZCon 2015! All the Best, Jim D. "Zup"

I really wish someone would reproduce these battery cables!!!
  4. About the wood-- 26th-Z is very correct about the variability in color especially over time. I think the originals were made of birch. I think the Nissan current knobs are made from a "tropical"----appearing to me to be apitong. Jim D. "Zup"
  5. I've used Stone head gaskets before with no problems. MSA used to sell them for the L24--don't know if they still do. Jim D. "Zup"

  8. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but, the above databases ( .pdf and .xls) appear to have been corrupted. Many of the entries I checked of persons whose cars are well known do not jive. (IE: Jim Frederick, who owns several various year 240Z cars, early and late, is listed as owning only 1971 cars, 26thZ (Chris Wenzel) is listed as owning Z car HLS30-03177 and I am fairly certain that he is no longer enlisted in the Navy and stationed in Yokohama, --Mike B. (Mike Brame)- while having several very early cars- is listed as owning only 1972 cars. My own ancient outdated entry is not correct in this database, but does appear correctly in the Z Home registry) A check of the original Z Home entries is as it has always appeared. I applaud the attempt and intend to post here the cars I have, per Blue and yakhopper's example above, but it will take a while for me to get it done. It would really be great if the original databases were updated to reflect current ownership but it may prove to be very difficult to get accomplished. This might thread might become the catalyst for a good start! As Carl would close "FWIW"! Jim D. "Zup"

I believe you are referring to the connection point for the throttle control cable that some (not many) early 240Z'z had. There is also a cable housing attachment point on the lower right of the dash/pedalbox support on early cars. The accelerator pedal on my 7/70 has this. While some cars had these features, most did not have the cable and corresponding lever at the console to make it a complete operable system as it was usually removed, if originally equipped, in response to safety concerns. I don't know for sure, but I have read this was usually removed on the few cars that were imported into the USA with the complete system. The use of the throttle feature allowed for setting the engine speed higher without the use of the choke, as in faster warm-up in cold weather, or depressing the pedal (un-attended operation). Mike B., of our membership,is an owner of one of the cars that has this completely intact.

"I think it would really be great for fellow members of this site to make arrangements to meet and get personally introduced to each other at ZCON. Being able to associate faces to "handles" would be fun for past threads and future stories. Shucks - we could even work on a group picture! :D" I'm up for breaking the camera with my mugshot mingled in with "youse guys"! Underneath the metal you see is a rubber boot. (hatch hinge weatherstrip boot) It prevents water from getting inside the roofline pockets that the hinges fit into. When you remove these---(they are handed---right and left)---they are many times so brittle with age and exposure to heat ands cold that they tear or disintegrate. Fortunately, reproductions of the boots are available. Although not cheap they are reasonable in cost, considering they will last another 40 years or so! (www.vintagerubber.com) Be gentle with the metal plates when you remove them, as they are fairly thin and easily bent. You may need to massage them back into shape when you get ready for the re-install. I think you should take them out, especially to inspect the pockets for any rust damage, and to get a good paint job done around this area. Jim D. (Zup)
  17. Advice from "z'z-on-da-brain" (Dave Irwin) when he refurbished my rear harness----"Apply heat with a hairdryer right before you install the boots on the terminals at the tank". He wrote it on a piece of paper attached to the boots! What a thoughtful guy! I asked Mike at Banzai about using the boots he offers a long time ago and it seems he said they were a different size than the boots at the tank, but that they might work. I've not purchased and used a set to see. I'm sure this is another piece Steve Nixon (nix240z) could (and will) reproduce. Jim D. "Zup"

Hey Steve-- I have wondered if there was real light output to be gained from the LED bulbs---I have always thought of them in terms of longevity not output. Is the festoon bulb available from MSA or is it an E-Bay item?? Jim D. "Zup"
