The 260 also had some cursed "anti-theft" i think they called it- the seatbelts had to be hooked, tranny in neutral, maybe something else i am forgetting. I seem to remember disconnecting the wires that are beneath the seats, and mine wouldn't turn over either, till i plugged them back together. Been awhile, but you may check it out?? Otherwise i'd try jumping across the starter solenoid like mentioned earlier. Good luck!
  2. As far as a fellow Z-lover checking a car out, I had excellent help. I just asked on the "little" mail list from this site- Kyle Hageman and Darren Black drove about an hour (1 way) to check out a V-8 Z for me! Gave me a very accurate depiction, as well as a heap of digital pictures. Unfortunately, the car was way too beat for $4000, so i passed. They did this for nothing, just to check out another Z... I did speak to Kyle & tried to get his address to mail a few bucks to buy a pizza and a case of beer, but he wouldn't take it. I have to say I'd do the same for someone else, FWIW. Better luck next time, Jeremiah
  3. Ac Carl said, drill 'em out. It is very soft metal, you'll be through it in no time. Rather than use the EZ-out, i just used a 1/4" or so bit & drilled the whole deal away. Your drill chuck will be REALLY close to the dash/guage pod, so be really careful that you dont bump into it & mess up the dash. Really low-tech fix, but workz for me.:stupid:
  4. Man-o-man, this place makes me smile day after day..... I do have a pair of hounds, but just plain house mutts- a chow/husky and a chocolate lab mix. But, I did have a Black & Tan Coon hound in high school (had to make $$ the easy way, wouldn't want to actually work!) Guess i'm still a farmer/country boy, what can i say. Keith, does Pepper know how to hunt pheasants yet??
  5. So you guys are telling me I'm the only backwoods hick hunter here?? Gotta eat my "speedbeef"
  6. I think we've confused two- "happiness is a large gut pile" = deer, etc hunting and the old Beatles song, "happiness is a warm gun". Or, i could be tired:stupid: Jeremiah (i dig the beatles and hunting)

Hi Ed, I don't know the answer, though the 30 does sound like a familiar number.. You may want to call Riter Restoration in East Rochester. A sponsor and member of ZCCR, Barry Brown should have extensive knowledge you can tap. (585)385-4151 good luck, Jeremiah

Welcome, Lowell!! Great story, glad to have another friend here! Have you checked out www.zhome.com Carl would love your story to add to hist list of original owners. Take care, i am in western NY, maybe one day our paths shall cross. Zya, Jeremiah

I'm with Keith about the coil. Another thing, does it still have the ballast resistor at the coil?? My 73 (stock ignition) had a loose wire at the BR, so it would die intermittently, then run only with the key in the "start" position, till it jiggled enough to make contact. Definately sounds electrical, not fuel starved though. Good luck, Jeremiah
  10. Mine's under covers in the barn- i did go out last weekend and sit in the cold driver's seat, dreaming.... My family is convinced i am probably nutz. they may be correct.
  11. I'm in western NY, about 40 minutes south of Rochester, maybe about the same from the PA border. Hey Ed, it hasn't been so friggin' cold & snowy in NY for the last 20 years- you must be lucky!!
  12. Remember the vanity plate? GR8FLZED I'll say just an afficianado, not a head anymore. Last tour i saw was 1988. Do own some bootlegs still, though. Zya, Jeremiah
  13. I'm sure if you do a search here, you'll find oodles of advise. Also, www.zhome.com has the details in a technical articles. You can assess different combo's here: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/ Zya, JA
  14. Not going to add a helluva lot here, just say i concur with Carl (bambik..) And thanks Australia- wanna trade countries with Canada? JUST KIDDING GUYS!!
  15. Nope, not on the CD, but downloadable right here! http://www.240z.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=27786#post27786
  16. You say the fuel pump kicks on when the key is "ON", that is how it should be, isn't it? I believe my Z's only have OFF, ACC, ON, START- for key positions. If the pump doesn't run when in the ON position, the engine won't get gas & it wouldn't run, correct? It's so damn cold here in NY, i haven't seen my Z in months, but thats how i remember it. Maybe the 280's are different? Or do you mean the pump is on when the key is in the ACC position? Not sure if the microfiche CD has wiring diagrams (that hasn't been an issue for me-yet-) But is it a very worthwhile investment. Hope that helps- JA
  17. I voted "she has no interest", but she really does love the Z cars, just not the driving! (that's okay) I did teach her to *drive my stick*, but she prefers to ride along- i think she's afraid of those 30 year old gremlins that cause things to quit. Susie likes a very reliable driver:classic: I must say she loves cars (almost as much as me), and that's a very important thing in a relationship. She does love the sound & the ride, so i'll always have a crusing companion:love: FWIW, my 73 is an auto, so when i strip/paint it so it looks respectable, she'll probably drive that in the summer.

The PO to my car put on BF Goodrich, which work fine for me.. If you want sticky race-ish tires, maybe Yokohama or Falken i would think. Have you searched www.tirerack.com or www.discounttire.com for what's available, ratings, etc? Zya, Jeremiah
  19. Hi Burt- I see you asked about SU carbs.... don't be scared off by the voodoo, they really are nearly as simple as a toilet. A "controlled fuel leak" i believe is the description by Scott Bruning, who started www.ztherapy.com He has sold the business, but it is still an excellent resource. You will be wise to buy the su video. HTH, Jeremiah
  20. Congratulations on your beautiful car!! Glad to have you here- where in NY are you? Check out a club local to you if you'd like: www.zccr.net (Rochester) Zacny (syracuse) or zany (albany) As far as the paints, I think you can get that premixed from Les & Dennis at www.classicdatsun.com Good luck & welcome! Jeremiah
  21. Well, MSA has them, but the best deal is generally from Charlie Orborne at ZedFindings www.datsunzparts.com I guess the difference would be if you are east or west coast- MSA in CA, Zedfind in Kingston, Ontario HTH, Jeremiah

IIRC, Eric at www.zparts.com had aline on some original keys awhile back- those interested may want to check him out & let us know what you find. HTH, Jeremiah
  23. Nate, you should have come to the ZCCR meeting in Rochester last week! We had 7 of them (yes, i now own 1). I am currently emailing the thoughtful individual who brought those to the meeting, i asked that he post here, or get back to me and i will let everyone know if he has any left, etc. If all else fails, there's always Ebay, but i'd rather support a local Z-club or parts vendor. I'll let everyone know if i hear anything:classic: Jeremiah
  24. Well, unfortunately i didn't think of this until too close to Christmas, so i got nothing in the way of compressor or tools:cry: But i do have a very nice set of Carhart Arctic Wear, so i can work & hunt outside without freezing to death. Next plan, early birthday (april), or perhaps a Valentine's giftROFL I've shopped around alot, and found the best deals are Sears & Penneys, between their sales & discount deals, they are as cheap as anywhere! As far as just a tank, i think Northern Tool & Supply sells them. Zya all, Thanks again for the help. I plan on a 30 gallon upright when the time comes:cheeky:
  25. I *think* that it's the override button for some sort of ignition interlock. Maybe for the seatbelts, or transmission interlock that kept the ignition from working?? Been long gone on my car(s) I think there is mention of it in the Haynes books. JA
