  1. Enough with the suspense. Is it a state secret?
  2. At my (51) age, I said screw it with wrestling the trans and spent the measley $20 to rent a transmission jack. Made the job easy. Slide the trans under the car, then (from behind the trans) slide the trans onto the jack and secure it. Raise the trans via the jack and wiggle it forward until the input shaft slides into the pilot bushing. Bolt it up. Jack rental was less than $20 for 4 hours and I had it back to the rental yard in 2 hours. No Strain, No Pain!
  3. I'm not the one to write a big article for you. but I can tell you that you'll gain drivability if you switch to some form of electronic distributor. Smoother acceleration and seemingly a tad more power (judging by the seat of my pants). Either go with a 280Z or ZX distributor, or if your current distributor is in good shape, dump the points and condensor and pop in a Pertronix Ignitor (This is what I did). There is a article on installation of Pertronix in our Tech Articles forum. If you decide to go the Pertronix route, I have a new kit that has been prepared for installation (wiring properly lengthened and connectors attached (soldered and shrink tubed) but is as yet unused. Send me a PM if you become interested.
  4. The CD's Courtesy sells were created by another company, Courtesy is merely a reseller. Hate to see them get too much credit for the product. There are also a couple of commercials on the club Parts Microfiche CD. Listed under "Free Stuff".
  5. Live less than a mile from where I (allegedly) grew up. If I could find a cool job else where, I'd be gone in a heartbeat.
  6. Sorry, I don't like it. looks like Freddie Kruger hacked a Zed Picture. Liked your previous one MUCH better.
  7. That's what I was saying, agreeing with previous statements. A V6 was available, I assume it was a pushrod motor. Never really cared enough to stop by their pit stall and look! Too many Z cars and others to check out.
  8. Capri's did compete, though not successfully against 240Z's on the racetrack in the US. Consistantly a backmarker from my recollection
  9. Like most things in life, it's just a personal preference based on many factors. Random thoughts: Some folks like the challenge of redesigning a car. Making big horsepower in an normally aspirated L6 (Datsun/Nissan) engine can get pricey compared to the cost of similar HP out of a V8. Weight distribution doesn't have to get messed up if one chooses the right V8 and the installation is done with an eye towards that (see Jagsthatrun's books, or talk to the HybridZ guys for more on that). Well built L6 engines routinely last for over 200,000 miles.
  10. $2.83 ?!?!?!?! They aren't using sand for lube, in my book that constitutes using GRAVEL on you So Cal guys. But, Hey; at least the Oil Companies aren't OVER CHARGING us for gasoline!:stupid:
  11. Your car should have the Thermostat installed. The engine was designed to operate at a constant temperature and this cannot be acheieved with it missing. First in your post you say the engine was overheating, then you describe the needle position as "a fourth of an inch before the middle of the gauge" which in a 240Z (and probably in a 280Z) is nowhere near "overheating", you need to clarify what is going on. Gauges are notoriously inaccurate and readings at "a fourth of an inch before the middle of the gauge" will vary from car to car. You need to buy a candy or cooking Thermometer which you can place in the radiator and observe it's readings as to when (what temperature) the thermostat opens, so you can tell if it is operating correctly and opening at the correct temperature. Also you can then compare it's reading to the position of the needle of your car's Temperature guage. All of this is done while the car is standing still at idle (not driving it). Either way, your engine needs the Thermostat installed in order to operate correctly. If it is overheating with a properly functioning Thermostat installed, you have other problems to deal with, and removing the T-Stat will not remedy them. Even if you back flushed the radiator it could still be plugged with crap, you could have a radiator hose that is collapsing while you drive and stopping the flow of coolant throught the system, you could have a bad radiator cap that doesn't seal properly or hold/maintain proper pressure, you could have a a failing water pump, or you could have a head gasket leak,
  12. here in CA, you can't get 92. 91 is all we can get and today it hit $2.45 9/10 for a gallon. That is up 12 cents from yesterday. They are predicting $3/gal by July.
  13. That would depend on several things, including: How well it was done What the buyer of the car is looking for. (i.e. a100% stock restoration, or daily driver, etc) [/list=1]
  14. I would reccommend that you check out www.HybridZ.org The vast majority of us on this website stick to stock, or updated Nissan powerplants. HybridZ is populated by people who do many radical things to Z cars. You'll find TONS more info and people who can guide you from personal experience on just about any type of V8 transplant you might dream of.
  15. Try a Google search on "Rolling Fenders". You'll find lots of discussion of different methods and the drawbacks of each.
  16. In case you go looking in Junk Yards, some of the brake, clutch, fuel piping is year specific so be careful what you look at or buy. If you have the Parts Microfiche CD, you might want to check to see which months of manufacture will fit your car.
  17. Just means the person who repaired it wasn't savvy enough, or didn't care enough to use the proper (year specific) part in the repair. When repairing a collectable car, it should be apparent that using the correct parts is important if value, and originality is to be maintained People who know, know People who don't care, don't care It's the sellers problem, and he shouldn't whine because people can tell correct repairs from incorrect repairs. From the description of the parts he has, and the engine he planned to install, I doubt the seller cared at all what he bought.
  18. I have no clue as to which car you are talking about. There are several places that you can send your busted lines to, and they can manufacture replacement pieces using your old parts as a pattern. www.classictube.com www.inlinetube.com
  19. CA is a 7 letter state also. I corrected my post. Had too many S's the first time around.:stupid: It never would have been approved by DMV anyway.
  20. No, I wasn't kidding at all. If you paid an entry fee, most car shows assign you a number for the purposes of tallying votes, etc. Should (if I understand the process) be easy as pie to figure out which car belongs to who.
  21. Good Deal, Congradulations! Too bad they didn't (or did they?) contact you and acknowledge their use of your car for their commercial purposes with a gift certificate, or T-Shirt, or free entry to next years show..... or something.
  22. So you'll have a few pictures of the completed project posted here by August 01, 2004? Cool! Looking forward to seeing them. What color will the car be painted?
