  1. Behind the suspension assembly there is a plate that tends to rust out on the Z's it's at the bottom where the chassis is. If that's what your talking about then it's a normal problem in Z's. Pictures would be a good way for us to assess the damage and provide opinion. It could be one of the reasons for the panels not lining up correctly but sometimes it's more the way the panels are put on that causes bad alignment.(provided it's not too badly damaged). Anyway as Will says don't let it put you off we've all had a car with some form of hidden gremlin I think.
  2. Yeah I saw someone selling the Benson and Hedges 280zx in the trading post a couple of years back. I'd be interested in seeing some early 80's cricket footage with the ZX being given away .
  3. Poor thing I hope it's not too badly damaged struturally otherwise might be best to fix the 72 and use the 73 as the parts car.
  4. Yeah he said he wouldn't be available because he was starting some new work. He'll be back soon.
  5. Interesting problem but I'm also interested in the distributor you say you have. If you could provide pictures of it that would be really good but with regard to your problem. When the tacho bounces does the engine also miss? Also the ballast resistor can be run with the distributor and you can just bridge the resistor see if that helps. That's how my Z is wired up. Not sure about the coil being the problem but it's worth a shot i guess. What's the condition of the rotor button and distributor cap? My tach started to bounce and the car had a slight miss due to the distributor itself. If you look inside the distributor you should see an inner ring just below the rotor button and an outer ring also. These rings have points on them that pass by each other as the distributor spins. If these points at all touch they cause the distributor to arch out and result in a miss. Hard to explain pictures would help.

  9. Sorry to hear and my best wishes are with all of you.
  10. Is that a viscous LSD? It's also the finned cover so i think you need to do some modifications to fit it to a Z. Probably work out cheaper to buy a R31 GTS LSD and install that instead.
  11. I'm still trying to get over the seats LMAO . This guy must have raided the parts bin big time for this one .
  12. DeeDee http://www.datsunrestore.com/catalog.html these guys sell them scroll down a little should see them.
  13. Fix that gearbox if your back from the US? I'm working on my cars suspension as soon as my strut protective boots arrive from the states just ordered them last night. So i'll be installing my new Tokico's and new rear bushes etc.. Then I reakon we need to get a cruise happening for VicZcar so we can see just how fast she goes
  14. I'm not familiar with the mallory distributors do they replace the points or are they a whole new distributor?

  17. This topic has been covered a few times try searching through the threads we even started one a while ago where people were posting their mods and showing their dyno sheets. However i think some of the best mods for a Z include an electronic distributor from the later ZX. You can have these mapped to suit your camshaft profile and your advance curve this makes a huge difference in the way your car accelerates. Changing your diff and gearbox gears is another effective method to get faster acceleration. If you want to go faster you really need to start doing internal work on the motor like cams and portwork. It just depends on your budget and what you want to achieve.

  19. The best way to remove the harmonic balancer bolt is to put the flywheel bolts into the rear of the crank and use something to jam it from moving such as a long steel pipe or spanner etc.. The rear main seal in my Z was bad and causing oil to leak onto the clutch assembly and flywheel not good so I'd replace it as to not do it would be false economy at $10 or whatever they are. The head gasket is up to you. I've never had a blown head gasket in my Z but you never know.

  21. It's actually also been changed to a leaf spring non-independant rear end also which was what ruined it for me. The overall effect is not bad but as you say no vote from me. :cheeky:
  22. It redirected me to some other site it was all in a foreign language so I couldn't really work it out. I have found that sometimes www.ebaumsworld.com under the forums section then under videos section there is a car subsection that sometimes has some good car videos there too . :cheeky:
