Just Bought a 240Z Need Info
I've nothing against Red. Red Zeds look great. I painted my Zed Red. (I dont mean to sound like a Dr Zeus book:classic: ) But it would be nice to see other colour Zeds around. They look great in almost any color. Mine was painted British racing green (really badly) when I bought it, but was the olive green metallic colour when it left the factory. I like black at the moment, but the zed I have my eye on is pearl white. Yeah some of the Quokka paper ads mysteriously dont make it onto the website. Ive seen a few 240z advertised in the paper, but haven't been on the website. The 240z in the quokka sounds expensive for the condition it appears to be in. I remember reading an ad in the quokka for someone trying to start a datsun car club. Cant remember if it was specifically for 240z. Wonder if it got off the ground? Mr C

Just Bought a 240Z Need Info
I saw those guys had a 260z for sale just before christmas also. Red of course. Why do these guys alway paint them red? and dont tell me "cause it goes faster" because i've heard it, and they dont. I thought that one was advertised as 69 zed? All 5 speed boxes were "close ratio" it was how they were advertised, so yeah it's a marketing gimmick. Unless your car had the racing box fitted after delivery (which it wouldn't have)with the "Ultra Close" ratio, 1st gear = 1.85 to 1 which is too tall for street driving. Standard is 2.957, much more street friendly. W.A.ZED (Gavin) you wouldnt happen to have personal plates with the same letters as an electrical appliance company would you?

Goodbye sunroof
Ditto. Take it to a vintage car restorer, not a smash repairer. A good vintage repair shop could fabricate and weld in a piece of metal to fill the sunroof hole and you would never even know that it was there in the first place. They may even cut the patch out of the doner roof, so they dont have to shape a piece of metal first. Removing the whole roof seems a little extreme.

White-faced guages
Steve Graber is the man responsible for these. They came from his website about his datsun-ferrari replica. He made them to replace the standard dash with the ferrari type dash and use the original 240z gauges. Funny thing Is I also saved these years ago and began editing them in photoshop, never finished. Probably about 99% done though, so if you want them in white without the phantom logo, give me a day or two and I'll finish them off. I was planning to do a imperial, and metric set, and can basically put any background color in them (eg, red or yellow). If you have photoshop you can put any color you want. I also want to use a font closer to the original datsun font. So if anybody has their gauges apart can you scan the faces, or take a high quality digital photo (i dont have access to a Z at the moment). Instructions about printing and fittind are available at steves site. http://www.newtier.com/graber/z-car/gauges.html Hope Steve doesn't mind. I'm not planning to sell them. I just thought people might want a "clean" set on white. He does sell his version printed up for around $40.

To Do List 2003
Already found one, but I dont own it, so: 1. Scrape together enough cash to buy it. 2. Convince the owner to sell it to me at a reasonable price. 3. Anything else will depend on the condition its in. Update: 30/Jan/2003 The owner decided to keep his white 240z (the one I wanted to buy), he wants to put a V8 in it, but offered me his Black 240z (yeah he has 2), which has a RB30 Turbo in it, etc etc, for $10,000!!! Too rich for me, and I'd prefer the original condition one. If anyone in Perth wants the Black one PM me and 'll see if i can put you in contact with the dude. I Just bought a Red 72 240z. Needs some work. Fix electrics - Headlights dont work. Get suspension checked out - Pulls to the right. Get a job so i can spend more money on my Z. It needs a reapaint.

350z on car n driver
And for those of you not in the USA (Like Me) someone has ripped the show to ".asf" format and it is available on imesh (and i expect on kazaar too). Its 29MB pretty large for my 56k connection, so i havent got it all yet. so I cant tell you what its like. Also Nissan have made a DVD called "The Run" (theres another thread about it, so search "the Run"and find it). Filmed in Prague, bla bla bla, multi camera angles bla bla. They have a trailer on the site that loads in a browser, but being a good little hacker I am, I've a direct link to the Hi-Res file so you can download it using Download managers (DL mage is excellent) and keep it. Be warned it 40Megs, and not too impressive. They have smaller versions, but you will have to go to thier website to look at them. It's a hell of a lot funnier if you hold down the fast cue button on your quicktime player! So heres the Link: http://a400.g.akamai.net/7/400/8182/3de3f3cf/nissannort1.download.akamai.com/8182/nissan/m/v/zdvd/HR_QT.mov Mr C

Considering that the 350z has driver and passenger front, side and curtain srs airbags the driver was probably fine. Probably like having a go in one of those inflatable bouncy castles.

Old and new
Colors are White Diamond (QX1) Daytona Blue (B17) Platinum (KY0) Burning Red (AX6) Black Obsidian (KH3) Le Mans Sunset (A17) I bet if you asked them nicely (or filled out a web form, like I did) They will send you a color glossy brochure on the 350z. I might even scan it and upload it if people ask nicely. They also sent me one for the 200sx. Disclaimer: "Note:.....based on the latest product information available. Final Specifications will be determined at launch of the vechicle."

LHD 240Z in 1969 TOKYO auto show
Well actually they changed the rules so only V8 could race. And lets not forget Glenn Seaton was doing pretty well against the V8's in a R30(31?) Skyline FJ40 (4 cyl) Turbo back in the late 80's. Kats, the Datsun Brand was very well known in Australia, as is the Nissan brand today. Everyone knows Datsun is Nissan.

My new 240Z
I heard (well read in another thread) that it eventually hardens the vinyl in the sun causing it to crack worse than if you didn't use it at all.

240sx wheels on a 280zx
Probably wont affect you with a 280zx, but another thing to think about with more modern cars it that the wheel has to clear the brake calipers also. Some cars have huge brake calipers like skyline GTR's and just because the offset might be right, doesnt mean the spokes of the wheel will clear the brake caliper.

My new 240Z
Oooooohhhhhhh, very nice. Am I allowed to ask how much it was?

I saw a Datsun today!
Us cars are lower spec than aussie cars. No rear sway bar, 4 speed gearbox. some have weird emmission stuff and impact absorbing bumpers. But if you could get a coupe of them stuffed into a shipping container it would probably be worth it.

Parts Interchangability
I was wondering what body parts are interchangeable between z's. When I had my 240z i was told a 260z bonnet (Hood) wouldnt fit, but that was over 10 years ago, and i've seen plenty of 240z with 260 turbo bonnets. Do 260z 2+2 bonnets, fenders and headlight buckets bolt straigt onto a 240z? Obviously a 2+2 hatch wouldnt fit a 240z, but what about a 2 seater hatch. I saw an ad for a guy wnting to swap a 260z hatch for a 240z, so maybe they dont, who knows? but thats just the point. It would be good to get a list going of parts that can be swapped, as 240z parts are hard to find (here in Australia), but 260z 2+2 are easy to find and are really cheap. I'm not too concerned with mechanical parts, diffs, engis etc, as there are plenty of posts about them, and with enough tinkering you can just about make anything fit. But what about parts like window winders, door catches & handles, and not jsut from z to z, but form other datsuns as well. Anybody have any experiances at swapping parts, well share your wisdom to the rest of us.
