  1. I think there is a place in Brisbane, Queensland called the Z car workshop. http://www.zcarworkshop.com.au http://www.sportsclassic.com.au have a z parts section. relevant threads http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3821 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3961
  2. I was watching the simpsond the other day, and mayor Quimby left town, so all the smart people had to take over running the town. One of the things they did was remove all the green lights from the traffic lights, leaving amber and red, because traffic travels faster through amber lights. Quote "Stay amber, stay amber" Lenny, while driveng fast throught the lights. "I'm making great time, pity I have nowhere to go"
  3. Is this the Nissan Real Car Simulater game? If so you will probably be needing this. Once you have installed the game if you want to change the keys you use to play it.... Run SMIRConfig.exe and click the middle button to configure your keys. which brings up this screen (in japanese), so heres a translation. You will probably want to click the top button (from the first menu) to go to the video setup and have a look at the video settings too.
  4. Say what now? I dont get it? Was there another thread i should have read first?
  5. A Fairlady Z is the name all Z cars were sold as in Japan. Fairlady Z in Japan = 240z everywhere else. same for the 260z, 280z & zx, & 300zx. Go down to your nearest Jap import car yard and you will notice all the 300zx's say Fairlady Z on the back. Datsun Sports? Do you mean the 1600/2000 roadster convertable.
  6. To me Automatics just feel slow. Even if they are fast. I guess to me it comes from the loss you get through the auto gearbox. Theres that rev band thing (i dunno how to explain it, i dont know much about autos, but i think its something to do with the stall converter) that dulls the throttle responce through the transmission. They just dont feel as responsive as a manual where you have a direct connection to the engine and every rev gets transmitted to the rear wheels. when you rev up an auto theres that little bit of slack. Anybody know what I mean or am I just crazy? Autos are good for drag racing, people with hip problems, lazy people or people that just cant be bothered any more. Manuals are good for real racing, and for people that enjoy driving.
  7. All this talk about electric fuel pumps reminded me of a story I heard about a guy with a datsun 1200 coupe. It had an electric fuel pump fitted (i dont know why, maybe it had a newer engine fitted, but anyway) but the power supply was wired through a relay connected t the demister switch. the demister was operated via another switch located somewhere else. So anyway, this was done to foil car theives. If the "demister" aint on, the fuel pump wouldn't work and the car woulnd get very far. And it worked too. After coming out of a movie one night the car was gone, but it didn't get very far. He found it just outside the carpark, on the side of the road with the bonnet still open. Once it had used up all the fuel in the carby it just stopped and the theives couldn't get it going again. Which reminds me of another story. I read a story about a guy that glued a bunch of razor blades to the back of his car stereo before fitting it. A couple of months later someone tried to steal the stereo, but never got it. But there was a lot of blood that needed cleaning up. But i wouldn't advise anyone to do that as it's probably illegal, and might just be one of those urban myth type stories.
  8. My fuel pump want working one day, so i unbolted it from the engine, cranked it by hand a while, and whaddyaknow, it started working again. nover had a problem with it again. Maybe i was just lucky. the car had been standing a while also.
  9. I saw in a magazine today a wrecked 350Z. It was the lemans sunset colour. Aussie magazine (called speed i think. New mag, 4th edition. december. has a blue cover with a silvia-180sx and a wrx on the cover. page 11 if anyone wants a look). page 10 has a picture of a 350Z with a body kit. Mutton dressed up as lamb. I still think they are ugly. Nissan could have done better.
  10. Hard top E-types are ugly. I dont like them. But convertable E types are acceptable. D-type jags are cool. but still a bit funny looking. Like a cartoon car.
  11. did you see the other thread about the guy that turned a zed into a ute? now before you go and castrate him also, aparrently the zed hit a cow first and was damaged. One thing i dont understand though, how do you hit a cow with the back end of the car? unless you hit the brakes real hard and spin around I suppose. anyway it looked damn strange. think of a 240z cut off just behind the back of the doors and a ute tray grafted on. i found the link: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4618
  12. At least it was a 2+2! Have a look at this one. Now thats bad.
  13. Hmmm, talking about mazda's on a 240z site. I feel very naughty, but anyway, they are cool cars also. I used to have a 808 coupe with a 1600 piston engine. R100's had the a 10A rotary engine, which I doubt you could find anywhere except in a stock R100, thats been lost in a shed or garage of some elderly person and forgotten about. Most R100's have the 12A or 13B put in for more reliability and power (13B turbo series 4 = lots of power to weight ratio). To fit a rotary to your car, you wuld have to change the cross member for a R100 cross member, then a rotatry would bolt in. As for tail lights, grills etc, they would be pretty rare also, even in Australia, because ist such an early model car. Bits for RX-3, and 4's are a lot more common, and even aftermarket reproductions are available for RX3 nose cones.
  14. Try looking in the Junk yard. These cars aren't worth anything these days. Last on I saw was for sale for $300. I thought about buying it for about a second. Mazda 808's are just as worthless, but the coupes look a whole lot better and are easy to transform into mazda RX-3's.
  15. The change in centre console design I believe was beacuse of the change in gearbox from the 69-71 to the 72-73 models. I 'm talking 5 speeds here, dunno about the 4 speeds, but apparenltly the gear sticks were in slightly different positions, causing the ashtray to be moved and the console to be redesigned. My 72 had 3 switches on the forward pannel, but they weren't connected to anything and had no labels on them.
  16. The 240K is a datsun Skyline (as it was known in Japan) otherwise known by its chassis number the C110. 4 door http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_c110.jpg 2 door http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_kc110.jpg The 240C /260C I believe was the 230 series which was a bigger car. I dont know what it was called in other markets. Maybe a Cedric? 4 door http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_230.jpg 2 door http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_k230_cedric.jpg
  17. Ah yeah. My bad. Where'd I get ford V8 from? I think the were considering a ford V6 in the design stages, and even a rotary engine too. but yeah the used the Renault/Peugeot/Volvo V6 in the end.
  18. Genuine minilites have 8 "spokes"
  19. Actually there's isnt much difference between stainless and normal steel. T-430 stainless weighs the same as normal carbon steel T-304 is heavier though, but not by much. I dont know what the difference is but stainless exhaust systems becomming more common. Titanium exhaust systems are still rare, you can get them for skylines and they are very light. They guy also made normal steel cobras. They are a pretty common sight on the streets of Perth in summer. Definately more common than 240z's.
  20. That damage does look repairable though. The door seems undamaged. As long as the strut tower hasn't moved it shouldn't be to hard to fix.
  21. Take a look at the Georgia Z club's Cylinder head referance http://www.georgiazclub.com/tips/ztech/cylinderhead.htm hmmm. actually its not much help when it comes to pistons.
  22. Those 240z shelby kits are disgusting. they dont even look like a shelby cobra. If you are gonna make a kit car, at least get a kit that looks like the original car. the proportions are all wrong. There was a guy over here in perth that made replica shelby cobras out of stainless steel.
  23. Yep. Call them minilites and people should know what you're talking about.
  24. If you like primer so much, just paint it matt grey. at least it will be waterproof, and your pannels wont rust from the inside out.
  25. Depends on the year of your car and the original exterior colour. tan wasn't common on the 1970/71 240z as only the green cars had a tan interior, where as white and dark blue cars had blue interiors (different shades of blue i believe). All the rest had black. Things changed in the 1972 and tan was more common. Its all in my other post: year, exterior colour - interior colour. If anyone bothered to read it.
