Quite a few of us have called already but can only leave a message on the answering machine. Obviously none of the calls have been returned or else you would have heard something already.
  2. I don't know what they're really for but I'm missing them. It's apparently called a "deck lid jamb plug" according to these guys: http://www.zzxdatsun.com/rubber.html
  3. I use one of the clear glass inline filters that contains a replaceable element. This makes it very easy to inspect the filter. It's quite obvious that my gas tank has some rust and getting it cleaned up and resealed properly is on the todo list.
  4. Yes, that's the first one I've put on eBay. I'm still willing to sell to club members at a discount but have decided to increase the price after receiving feedback that $20 was too low. Here's the deal: I'll sell them to club members for $30 but donate $5 of that to the club to help keep this place going.

I ended up buying two new switches. They're hard to find, unfortunately. I'd check and make sure you don't have a wiring problem first. You can disconnect the driver's side door switch up under the dash and simply connect the two wires together which will bypass the switch and should turn on the light.
  6. I must be dreaming. I distinctly remember doing a ring job on my car around 1986 and I surely had to pull the oil pan off to do that. I know that I didn't pull the engine from the car and I don't remember doing some other trick. What am I missing here? :stupid:

http://people.yahoo.com only lists 7 in the whole country. Perhaps someone could call those people to see if any are relatives. http://phone.people.yahoo.com/py/psPhoneSearch.py?srch=bas&D=1&FirstName=&LastName=zarte&City=&State=&Phone=&Search=Yahoo%21+Search I also searched the Wichita newspapers. At this point the only possibilities I see is that she's: a) Incarcerated Seriously incapacitated Dead
  8. In other countries people are free to sell plates to other people which causes a market (with huge markups) for desirable plates. Here's are some examples: http://www.newreg.co.uk/ http://www.classmarks.co.uk/
  9. I didn't bother because I was really just playing around to see what metal tape might look like. However, it could be done with some careful trimming of the metal tape. You'd need a shape something like what's in the crude image attached. Note that the only thing that would show would be a small split down the middle of each end.
  10. I agree that the chrome is the biggest problem. A couple of hours ago I tried adding some polished metal tape on top of one of the two chrome strips with reasonable results. The entire "chrome" piece can actually be removed from the rest of the tail light housing but it's hard to do without breaking the two outer plastic pins that lock it in place. As another experiment I'm thinking of seeing how it will look with just some "chrome" spray paint. Once again this is my old beat up tail light so I don't care if I ruin it. You can see the difference in the bottom of the two strips in this picture.

It seems to me that it's mainly used to prevent you from accessing the fuel filler hose (and bumper bolt). Perhaps it's really there to keep dirt and other debris from getting caked on in those areas? I may consider asking you for that paper template at some point in the future, but, like my glovebox, I went almost 20 years without and a little longer isn't going to hurt.

No need to take a picture; mine's obviously missing. There are clearly two holes where this panel used to attach. Interestingly enough I don't see the equivalent holes on the driver's side. Was this panel only on the gas filler side?
  13. Nevermind what I said earlier; thanks to whoever moved this thread to the appropriate forum.

I think they're simply admitting that the market value for such a car has gone down. I would agree with that assessment.
  15. Obviously any kind of sandpaper will scratch the surface; that's the whole point. However, super fine grades of paper make very small scratches which may be enough to remove the bigger scratches that cause the "fogged" look. On the other hand, there are commercially available plastic polishes that I would try before sandpaper such as those available from Mothers or Blue Magic. As far as the chrome goes, mine were so far gone that the pits went all the way through the chrome and into the white plastic beneath. I would think this would be difficult to repair. Since I bought a used replacement on eBay I might see what can be one to fix my old lens since I don't have to worry about damaging it. I may try the metal tape technique that I successfully used on the interior door panel.

Interesting ... I don't have one of those. I'll have to take a close look and see if there are any empty screw holes.

The easiest way is to jack the car up a bit which gives you more room between the tire and the wheel arch. It's still a tight fit but you can do it with a bit of patience.

Well, it's already at $2000 with 5 bids.

  20. I find that a good place to estimate weights like this is the MSA catalog. While they don't seem to sell just a crankshaft they do sell a complete kit with a stroker crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, etc. that they list at 70 pounds shipping weight (and a mere $1799): http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PEM05
  21. It's true that the center section is no longer available but that damage doesn't look too bad. When I got my bumpers straightened and rechromed they had to do a bit of work on them. I suspect yours can be fixed as well.

That's how mine works as well. I believe it's as-designed - as you say, to keep you from locking your keys in the car.

    Thanks, good job.

Using the web I got the same information from a WhoIs search of her domain. I then mapped it using MapQuest and then found that location in an aerial photograph on Microsoft's TerraServer. It appears as though this business location might actually be her home so she may not be accustomed to unexpected visitors. http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=10&x=3292&y=20860&z=14&w=1
  25. Yes, the hole behind the pillar emblems was the replacement for the vent hatches on the early models. I suppose Datsun found out early on about the negative pressure behind the car attempting to draw exhaust back in.
