  1. My guess is that you are representative of the majority.
  2. While I don't know the pitch off the top of my head I can offer a suggestion for the future. I went to my local hardware store and simply bought one each of metric nuts and bolts in the common sizes used by Datsun. You can store each pair in a labeled bag and can use them to verify sizes whenever you need to buy new fasteners.
  3. The magnet idea is going to be tricky since the magnet will want to stick to the tank itself more than the screw. You'll have a hard time moving it around; I believe there are baffles inside of the tank. As always be very careful when working around the tank.
  4. The vacuum advance has nothing to do with making the carbs work. It has to do with making the distributor work. The front carb is just the source of the vacuum. If your distributor does not have a vacuum advance then just plug the small hole in the carb.
  5. I suppose that one is true given the reduced load on the alternator.
  6. Considering what it would cost to buy replacement panels the shipping charge does not seem out of line to me. I don't know what your time is worth on this sort of job but assuming you'd want $50 then for $140 someone can get their chrome strips fixed for a lot less than buying and shipping used panels from somewhere. New panels aren't even an option anymore: http://store.datsunspirit.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=84 What you should really do is offer to a panel restoration service. As you know a can of SEM dye can make the vinyl look like new and with new chrome strips it really will look new.
  7. I'm surprised the shipping would be that much. I just ordered a piece of tempered glass from Vancouver, WA and it cost about $30 in shipping FedEx ground. The package was only slightly smaller than what a couple of door panels would require.
  8. Well, if you find an error on Wikipedia then you should certainly fix it. 151 is the value given in my factory service manual for '72. The L26 is listed at 165 in my Haynes manual and I'm sure the L28 was at least that high.
  9. Any sunroof is aftermarket. Datsun didn't supply anything like a sunroof until the 280ZX which had t-tops.
  10. I think it would be better to run them to the air cleaner as was originally intended. If the needle valve gets stuck open the float bowls will start overflowing and can start spilling fuel directly onto the exhaust manifold. Routing it to the air cleaner will hopefully cause some of it to be sucked into the engine although some might also drip from the air cleaner onto the manifold.

I've always considered burning oil to cause blue smoke.
  12. I sure hope that the car is simply on jack stands and the wheels are not actually attached to the car.

Many? As I recall only the radio and the blower motor have inline fuses. If the clock is not running I'd go with the overwhelming odds that the clock itself is simply not running.
  14. The lines to the float bowls are not vacuum lines but rather fuel overflow lines in case a needle gets stuck open on the inlet side. While they dump the overflow into the air cleaner they really serve no real purpose.
  15. As far as I know Black Dragon sells the Precision aftermarket weatherstrip kit and yes, the door weatherstrip is all one piece.

After several minutes I did notice a pole in the picture but how do you know it's a new pole?

The barrel switch in the doors is the only switch involved here. It may be a bad ground at the switch itself. Use a thin blade to pop the switch out. You'll see that, on the driver side, there's only one wire going to the switch. Use a jumper wire to directly run that to a known ground and see if it lights up. If so, the switch itself is not grounded properly. If it doesn't make a difference then you'll have to trace it from there.

Unless you're using a cleaner wax then waxing just adds a layer on top. I'd start out with something mild and work your way up if it doesn't work. There are various polishing and rubbing compounds. I've used the "fine cut cleaner" from Meguiars but they have plenty of products that can help you. Another option is a clay bar or wet sanding. You could start with 2000 grit wet paper without worrying about doing much damage. http://www.meguiars.com/estore/product_list.cfm?&sectionname=Professional%20(Mirror%20Glaze%20Brand)%3EAuto%20Paint%20Care%3EPaint%20Cleaners/Compounds&sectionID=31301
  19. Here's the source: http://www.tygon.com/Data/Element/Node/Category/Category_edit.asp?ele_ch_id=C0000000000000001208 240ZX mentioned clear tubing but hls30 shows something that is yellow.
  20. Kats, I just noticed that your 432 has a tie-down hook on the right rear corner. I was under the impression that these were only used on cars that were exported via ship. Can you clarify?
  21. Consider the possibility that he doesn't know much about the cars and is hoping that you'll basically haul off the earlier car. Since the 72 is less damaged and ran recently he might consider it more valuable. I'd offer $750 for both cars and see what happens.
  22. Welcome. As has been said here many times before rust is the most serious problem with these cars. The mechanical stuff is relatively cheap and easy. Using the search function on this site will likely find previous posts that will answer most of your questions. Be sure to post some pictures when you can.
  23. Victor, can you give a ballpark cost for this? I know they say they'll call you with an estimate once they receive your tank and inspect it but if it's going to be $1000 or more I wouldn't want to even send it.
  24. As I recall you can jack the car all the way up, use a spring compressor, remove the three nuts at the top of the strut assembly, and simply swing the whole thing down just barely clearing the wheel arch. Hopefully someone who's done this recently can confirm as I'd hate to give you bad advice.
  25. I view simply it as a reaction by the people of France to some of the problems brought on by your previous governments. At least in democracies like ours the people can decide to make changes such as these. I'm am a bit surprised by the pro-US stance although I think it's more due to his economic views mirroring our capitalist system rather than an endorsement of the US itself. Hopefully it will improve the situation in your country. What is your impression?
