Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Blue, thank you for the useful information. I checked my blue 240Z's SU, they have same oil (0W-20) , same amount, but not same force (very stiff though) to lift up the piston. Also not same timing when they drops. When oil is empty for both, the force and timing is the same. It will take much more effort to find out what is wrong.. I have bought nozzles from MSA, they supposed to be black plastic do not they? Also repair kit, the tube does not have to be cloth braided, this tube makes me wonder if it is going to be a problem due to not so flexible. Small things make me wonder. I hope these parts will work perfect. Kats

Thanks Alan ! Now I see the reason. I do not want someone like this to overhaul my engine!! I am asking Matsui-san to hear some advice for installing the gear driven pump. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Gave, I do not know that, I will ask Ando-san about it. R-Factory is the famous shop , the owner Aihara-san rebuilt the engine. Aihara-san has rebuilt so many S20 for customers. This yellow Z432 has an unique all gear driven mechanism (including cam shafts gear driven) which is produced by Aihara-san. You can hear different sound from other S20s. Kats By the way, do you know who is an owner of this car? Mr . Nakamura Shiro , a former senior vice-president of Nissan. He got this car a few years ago. He was a chief of styling department. I hope Nakamura-san tells designers "make S30 again! " .

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Here is an oil pump for S20, this is a gear driven type only used for the early GTR. When Z432 was began to produced the pump was already switched to the chain driven type. I took pictures with a chain driven pump for comparison. An engineer said in an interview in a magazine, the change was made for reducing noise level. But later, many owners want the noise, we feel it as racing sound, we think it is music rather than noise. Some car have altered with this gear driven oil pump, I want to here the noise in some day. I found one terrible thing on the spare chain driven pump, a bolt head is scratched half ! What happened with this engine?? The car had an accident in the front section ? Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thanks everyone, I really like these conversations, anything is well come here. Gave, I too think the support member is generic , as Alan mentioned it has a part number Z432 code, E42 . That is strange because Z432 does not have air conditioning system. And we see the member even has a small brackets for a Z432's air filter box. Would Nissan engineers have intended to put the two big rudders just for horns for Z432 with an oil cooler , and for a condenser for air conditioned car ? "If you do not use it, just leave it" Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thanks everyone, bartsscooterservice, I am looking at ZT website, seems to me the roller bearings are good for the butterfly moving, they will give much smoother and almost trouble free for years to come. I saw ZT's 920 gold 240Z at Las Vegas convention 2000, I took my Blue 240Z there too. I am afraid my SU's shafts are sucking air due to wear. And how is everyone doing with the SU damper oil? 0-20W is stiff for the pistons movement, I will try much thinner oil. Kats

1969 & up 240Z seat belt tags - Reproduction
Thank you too 240Ziggy, we love tags, and stickers ! Just for someone's interests, here is the tag's location and facing. Nissan made a single facing application for each belt, as the results, tags are not facing the same at the driver's side and the passenger's side when we looking at in position. One important thing is, the tags must not be flat with the belts, tags must be loose so that tags can be twisted and bended without breaking / peeling . These tags are my home made tags on Z432. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi , thank you for the information, the shafts are notorious when they are getting old, I want to check my SUs after seeing your reply. And also some car magazines reported on "new car test" , the throttle pedal was sticky. My blue 240Z had same sticky throttle problem when it was restored like new . Maybe ball joint linkage? Kats

1969 & up 240Z seat belt tags - Reproduction
Hello 240Ziggy, I want to buy 9/69 for my Z432, 6 pieces please. I do not know when the changes were made about tags format, however at least 1969/ 1970 Fairlady -Zs have same tag like other exported models, I think... Chris , I still have the 9/69 tags which you kindly gave me, they are so perfect just like this, this time I want to have one more set for my relief. Now my Z432 has home made tags using a office copy machine , not bad but not professional finish. Mike , I think you saw the rags in ZCON San Diego 2014. Dan, I agree with you , my March 1970 240Z has 12/69 tags. By the way, this is the only thing which I found "dated 1969" in my Blue ACRYL ENAMEL 240Z. Kats 06/1972 Fairlady-240ZG has a different tag compared export models.

Series I antenna
Thanks Mike, we need to gather a lot more examples. If 1969/1970 cars have two holes for the screws on the floor, it could be an evidence that engineers had to design for both type ,short and long mast type. Maybe be cause of the different suppliers? If 1969/1970 cars do not have those holes, the change might happen around 12/1971 , my orange 240Z could be a betweenness, an early aerial with a later mounting floor. About a seat belt warning system, my 12/1971 orange car did not come with that, but it's floor came with a mounting pocket for the retractable / electric michro switch seat belt system. (I did DIY for the system installing for having fun though) Kats

Series I antenna
Beautiful car Mike! I have a question, the difference of the length of the mast, and mounting. Pleaee see 12/1971 orange 240Zand 06/1972 maroon 240ZG, 240ZG has a long mast. It is possible that this ZG have had the aerial replaced at some point, but it looks like pretty original. And mounting point of the floor, there are two holes for the retaining screws, and what it makes me wonder is, these holes for the long mast are already existed from the early days. My orange 12/1971 has exactly same mast and mounting like my 01/1970 & 03/1970 cars. What do you think of this? Kats

Z Mirror with no Day/Night Toggle?
Hi Blue, I did not know he is still selling that! It is a good idea just looking at , not to try buying anything. I payed like 250USD for the real one, I sold it with an winning bid 58000 JPY . It is also for S30S, but everyone want to buy for their Z432-R or for their other models topping "Z432-R " special feeling . I am regretting that I let it go.I thought I do not have a Z432-R nor a S30S. I thought I should focus on Z432 and 240Z. Kats

Z Mirror with no Day/Night Toggle?
Thanks Alan, I see why they have some comfortable features. They are road going Z432-R, each car has each owners needs. My automatic 240Z has day/night mirror of course. And this is the mirror which provided later from Nissan. Kats

Z Mirror with no Day/Night Toggle?
I bought this from the US as new in the box , kept it on a shelf a while, then sold it on Yahoo Japan a few years ago. Most of the Z432-R which I saw do not have this mirror, I think they just lost it at some point. It is a quite common story that people were trying to obtain this plain mirror (because of Z432-R) from the local Nissan sometime ago , they ended up receiving mirror with an ugly mounting stay. Bravely some people were trying to sell the not original mirror with listing "Z432-R mirror" , they were relying only the fact that they placed an order to Nissan with the collect part number. I do not know why parts catalog says this mirror is applied "automatic" . Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
An interesting modify of my 240ZG, this is the brace for the throttle pedal pivot. The original owner's memo said " throttle need to be more smooth when depress .." This is the solution , a dealer mechanic created unique parts, I think. Some car magazines claimed same thing, the throttle pedal was stiff and hard to control when start rolling. Kats

Details, Details
Thanks Jerry, My car is HS30-11861 L24-114120, approximately 3000 gap. I think it is close, there is an article of an interview to Nissan engineers at April 3rd 1972 . Mr.Suitsu said "we make 6000 in April (5500 export, 500 domestic) , this is the first time making sportscar more than 6000 a month..." So, yours and mine would been in a same month? At that time L24 was used for another models, our cars would be closer than engine number gap. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thanks Blue! A sticker added on the air cleaner . A crip added for the harness of the modified high intensity head light system. This crip is used for the battery cable on the fire wall, four of them for L -series engined car , three of them for S20 engined car. It was red , I wrapped it with a black tape. Looking great like a stock appearance. Kats

#187 on BAT
This is my 06/72 240ZG, see the strut. There is a "L" on it. I do not know this is a later replaced part or not. There is a story about the design team was thinking applying left and right , but it was rejected due to cost cut. But later it was applied for both. Kats

#187 on BAT
I like this car! I noticed the rear gate strut, it is ordinary type . My Z432 01/70 has a bit different shape, I thought early cars have the same type like my Z432 , and this type is mentioned in a Fairlady-Z service bulletin . My 03/70 US 240Z has the ordinary type . I want to know early cars for export have ordinary type ( I do not know how to call the strut ) from the beginning, or not. Kats
