Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thank you Alan, I have read that thread started by Blue, a lot of information there, I should read that first, thank you Alan , Blue too. Alan you are telling "it is not that easy story ,a history has very complicated stories behind " . I have got you. After reading that, "politics " is the key word for me, I think Nissan wanted to have victory as many as possible by S20 , the car was GTR. Same time Nissan wanted S30 to win with S20 first , but then L 24. For Nissan, winning various car , various engine is good thing to appeal their ability to people. The fact that terrible vibration occurred PZR's FS5C71A which many factory racers complained could affect Nissan's "politics" pushed forward , I mean switching plan LR24 came earlier than they expected, did not ? Or the vibration problem was just a bad compatibility of PZR and S20? Was it just coincident ? GTR would have same problem but Murayama fixed it nicely and immediately? Or even that problem was " already expected", Nissan knew it ? Nissan would have a retirement plan of PZR in 1970 so , they chose remaining as it is rather than solving the problem? Very interesting ! Kats PS the pictures is Mr.Maruyama , he was a senior captain of B777 retired at age of 65 last year, I flew with him on his "Last Flight". He knew I have Zs, he kindly let me see his younger days in the sky. His farther bought the new car 1975 S30 for him, Mr.Maruyama said "my father was so excited about his son became a pilot trainee, I still thank my father because I did not have that big money for buying it ..." Mr.Maruyama owned it 10 years, where is the car now?

Test report of "HLS30Q (Z Europe model) countermeasures High speed stability "
Hello, I think the best performance 240Z is Europe model, after seeing this report. I try to show and I do my best , I hope you enjoy. First of all, Nissan started development faithfully from February 1970 for the Euro model . Not before the beginning of its production. Nissan did not think about being famous in Europe? Or they wanted to do the development without hurrying up? Anyway March 1971, they finally set the spec like this, Final Europe version Stabilizer bar front 22mm / rear 20mm Stiffer spring front & rear Stiffer shock absorber front & rear Front height minus 15mm Spoilers front & rear With this spec, the optional magnesium wheels (same as Z432 )would add more better handling and performance, I saw some car has the wheels in Europe. One interesting note is, there is a "Portugal Version " This is like a Z432, because spring rate and stabilizer bars are the same. Not as sporty as Final Europe version but it has a little more sporty feelings than others. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thanks Alan, that is an important point. I should say "for S30, S20 engine was fading out" . Seems when people (even factory racers , mecanics) talking about racing car, they say "240Z" for L24 mounted (yes it is PZR body or could be others for private racer later ?) . They say "Z432R" for S20 mounted PZR. It is interesting to seeing registered name "Datsun sports 240Z " , and chassis ID "HS30" for 26th July 1970 Fuji 1000km in a car magazine, is this true for JAF official entry(registered) name/ ID ? Alan you are the only one can tell us.(sorry thousands times repeat!) My question is why Z432 was produced mostly in 1969 (approx 80) and 1970(approx 260). 1971 to 1973 , approximately 80. When Fairlady-240Z debuted in Japan late 1971 , there is no picture of Z432 in the brochure. Was that cause of Nissan switched to L24 in racing ? At that time Nissan sales-man was selling Z432R with asking price 800,000 yen( Z432 was 1,850,000 yen), what a bargain! Kats I see the radiator hose was handmade for the Z432 one, and the other one had modified top of the radiator for using L series radiator hose.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thanks Fred ! Can I get 175 HP just using the triple carbs and the race exhaust? If so, what a great engine ! At Japanese race tracks, Z432R was fading out after Nissan works switched to L24. From 1971, most of results were made by 240Z. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi , today I found a plastic fan for L20, this is a good chance to make a tribute engine , "L24 with triple carbs for 240Z" Nissan did not sell that engine, just planned. I have got a inlet manifold, people saying this is made by NISMO, looking at some details, it is different from the others. I can not find any manufacturer's stamp or marking on it, the most interesting thing is the lever which is welded to the shaft. With this inlet manifold, plastic fan, and a race option exhaust header, it is going to be looking good. Kats PS tool boxes, they are old ! ニッサン & DATSUN .

Purchased a 73 240z automatic
Hi jdbrocious, nice car you found ! I love my automatic 240Z , if my car had a trouble of it's function, I would have had replaced it to stick shift. Hopefully it works pretty good, no disappointment. One thing aout a clutch pedal stopper, this will be needed if someone wants to make it perfect conversion. Original is welded to the firewall , so the job will be little hustle . And a radiator has two connecting pipes at the bottom for oil cooling of the transmission, this is another point for perfection. You have decided to stay auto, so this is just a little information for someone. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thank you moelk, this color , looked best in autumn and winter, surrounded by trees and mountains, I reallly think so. On the other hand, looked odd in summer beach with a surfboard ! I think it was a good decision that this color #116 maroon stayed in Japan. Would have not been pleased in California. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Today I took my 240ZG for a couple of ours to enjoy windings near my house . At near the end of the driving , the shift lever did not want to engage , I found the clutch operating cylinder had a leak. I need to replace 11/16 adjustable cylinder. Kats

Hi, just for the reference. Here are many pictures used for the service manual. I posted about the prototype cars before, Primary production prototype #12 is HLS30-00003 , and this car belongs to a section E81 (service) . I just imagined this pictures's car could be HLS30-00003. What things were changed between 00003 and 00007 ? There could have been a lot of things changed, or a just few things. One thing about a red car on the brochure, the aircleaner box has ordinary wing nuts. Very early cars have hexagon head bolts. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Each car has each place(department) to belong and has subject to be used. 1 = S30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 2 = HLS30-00001 Q21 (production factory study) 3 = PS30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 4 = HLS30-00002 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 5 = S30-00002 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 6 = PS30-00002 K11 (registration) 7 = HS30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 8 = S30-00003 K11 (registration) 9 = S30-00004 F45 (K31 spare) 10 = S30-00005 F45 (K31 spare) 11 = PS30-00003 F45 (K31 spare) 12 = HLS30-00003 E81 (service; service manual? kats) 13 = S30-00006 F45 (for press/media) 14 = PS30-00004 F45 (K31 spare) This report is dated 25th Jun 1969. -------------------------------------------------------------- Kats

Many many pictures ! Thank you. I tend to think very early cars like "primary production prototype" would have an early bracket , would not they? Let's say the cars like S30/HLS30/HS30/PS30-00001 to 00010 or so need to be checked. About the red car with the couple, it has a later bracket and a fuel rail is an ordinary type, And also a plastic cover on a voltage regulator, a tub on an inspection lid , they are not seen in a very early cars which can be seen in a service manuals or parts catalogs. These things make me think this car may not be 00007. The sales brochure has code 0370 on the back, could it mean "issued May 1970" ? If so, it was possible to use later car like made in Dec 69 or Jan 70 or even Feb 70. What do you think ? PS this picture shows the car does not even has an early bracket for the hose, though. Looked not well organized, still working. Kats

Blue, I really really love this photo, this red 240Z is my favorite. Thank you for sharing it, is this color version provided from Nissan too? I am still not for sure that this red 240Z is #00007 , because the bracket for the master vac hose is ordinary one. I think we talked about this before , Mike B also pointed it out. Very early car has different bracket for the hose. If possible I would like to see your 1969 240Z's bracket . Kats

Series-1 Hatch Vent Duct Clips & Restoration Info Needed
Hi Jim, I need to look and think carefully. Chris, I leaned "Hoover" , thank you. Can I say Hoover for a person who eats a lot? The foam (Packing 90827-E4100) was already attached ,and the yellow zinc speed nuts (Nut spring 08961-43210) were already attached too. I think the speed nut (08961-43210) , it`s role is to combine two plastic duct part in one. And, Nissan might intent the speed nut catches the pin of the outer grill, but I doubt like Jim, looking at my spare duct, the speed nut needs to be bent more for better catching. But still I do not know it can. Then ,the whole duct assy needs a black barrel crip (CLIP tail gate ventilator 90829-E4100) to secure the assy on the top outside of the hatch opening surface. Also, the outer grill trim needs tubular clip (CLIP tubular 63845-18000) to secure it on the tail gate,( or secure with the barrel clip) but this is not mentioned on the parts catalog. My Blue 240Z and Z432 both have same method, tubular clip for secureing the outer grill. Please see attached pictures, the earliest Fairlady-Z parts catalog does not list all of the hardware which required . 1972 issued one describes much better, on the other hand, the early DATSUN 240Z parts catalog does not describe correctly, even it says secure the outer grill with the tapping screw ! Kats PS About 5th picture, #14 barrel crip (90829-E4100) and #40 speed nut (08961-43210) they should be switched their location each other in the diagram.
