Mint '71 240Z - More Fun Coming to BaT
This car surely deserves a premium price. The reason why this car has a later seat back on the left side could be related to this car titled as a 71 , couldn’t it be ? The replacement could have done in the dealership , not done in Nissan Shatai factory. While this car was sitting in the dealership , I would guess something happened to the driver’s seat then ordered a new seat back to the parts department . That would be an early 71 , in the factory the seat back was superseded to new , slim seat back . Or sometime later , just swapped an original seat back with that later seat back . This would be the best place to sell my cars . How can I do it from Japan ? Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
I visited a classic car shop yesterday , there is a Dec 1969 PS30-00062 . I felt this car is a good original car , a lot of original parts . I immediately noticed the welding finishing touch of the radiator support upper L & R corner , this is what I call and love “ hand crafted “ which is rarely seen in our mass produced S30 . How many things can we list “ hand crafted “ treatment parts in our cars ? I would say the interior roof center trim piece for room lamp could be the one , my 03/1970 has two cut away for the defroster wires which would looked “ hand crafted “ cut away . I guess my blue trim was made in early days and not ready to be considered as a car which have a defroster glass . Nissan would just make them a little too many blue trims . My blue tail gate interior trim too , the pieces for the vent system is different from later vented one , those pieces can only be seen on an early trim in black . Blue and Tan could be interesting as parts to be used early parts into a bit later cars . How about yours ? Kats

Genuine PS30-SB 'Fairlady Z432-R' refresh story in Gallery
This thread is really nice , so much informative . And finally I have got the answer to the reservoir tank of the Z432-R , the tank is exactly the same as our US and Canada early car except one tube is omitted by hand . Pleae see the attached picture , you see the tube’s end is smashed , looks like heated by gun to melt the tube . I think we can say this tank is shared with our US and Canada tank , just one tube is different. Not only this , the white front window screen , the fuel door knob, also rear deck rubber mat , side sill rubber trims ( left side is a bit different due to a foot rest ) are shared with export cars and Z432-R . Some of the items also shared with a Fairlady-Z , S30S ( Z-std ) . BTW , this tank 17350-E7201 Tank-Reservoir Fuel 4.2L , 2000JPY is now on sale at Yahoo Japan auction. Kats

Spring for Fuse door
Hi Jerry , is this what you are talking about ? I pulled this spring from my 1972 Orange 240Z and Fairlady 240ZG . Both fuse door lost one pin to be pushed in . The cause of cracking pin on the console side is too much high tension of this spring . I can say 90 % of them are broken . I had to repair ( actually I made ) a new pin to match the hole of the fuse door , but I gave up installing this spring because I didn’t want to break the pin once again . So I hope someone will make a replica of this spring with a lot lowered tension. Kats

Fairlady 432 at Auction
Hi Gavin , We are seeing a lot of R32 GTR are shipped to overseas everyday. On the other hand I have met some owners who wanted to sell their cars but not for overseas buyers , I can sympathize with what they are feeling. BTW , could the winning bidder be an overseas buyer because it was made by phone . Interesting! Kats

Fairlady 432 at Auction
Hi xs10shl , I missed understanding about it , I reviewed it , yes you were referring to KPGC110 , Ken & Mary GTR . Recently I have heard those cars changed hands privately in 40-45 million JPY range . I have never been interested in that car , I don’t get it why the car is so expensive, yes I know it was only 197 produced but ... Dino 246 is in a same price range , I know it is so beautiful but why it is so expensive ? 2.4 litter six-cylinder , two seater , rack and pinion , four independent suspensions , five speed , almost same as our car ! I wish my Z432 would be an R , then I would have been able to trade it with a Dino easily . Even I would have got change . Kats

Fairlady 432 at Auction
Hi xs10shl , Japanese economy is getting better for someone , we have Tokyo Olympic Games this year , but most of people can’t feel our life is getting better economically. Like you said , the GTR sold for over 30 million JPY , probably that could be the first time for the KPGC10 (two door GTR up to 1972) sold in that high . This GTR too , some parts are not correct ( the most obvious thing is the steel wheels borrowed from sedans ) for this car but appearance is really good, clean and paint job is fantastic. These points made this car over 30 million JPY, I think . Kats

Fairlady 432 at Auction
Two years ago , 00289 was like this , and at the car show the price tag was over 80 million JPY , every body thought “ no way “ . But why this time it was sold ? I think one of the reason is this car improved its appearance better . Even some parts are still not correct for the Z432-R , but this car now looked more proper, more original. This means S30 has so beautiful design for exterior and interior, designers did great job ! You don’t need to change something to look the car better ( but I really love to see modified car too ! ) . Test report of "HLS30Q (Z Europe model) countermeasures High speed stability "
Thanks NVZEE , I corrected “ pitch “ to “ posture “ , because it is actually said “ 車輌姿勢 “ ( vehicle’s posture ) . Engineers lowered only front , rear remained the same as other market car . So if I say pitch , it doesn’t express this engineer’s work correctly. Again Why they lowered 15mm in front ? The reason is S30 has a tendency of lifting up in front 10mm when it is cruising. It’s posture becomes not level , attitude is up in front . Kats

Mint '71 240Z - More Fun Coming to BaT
I really love this car , super clean tan interior , I have never seen such a beautiful, original tan seats , and other pieces. To keep it stay original is difficult if the owner wants to maintain the car better . This car has been taking care of incredibly. I want to see the jack and tire stopper if they have a matching date stamp on them . Kats

Antenna Rebuild / Restore
Hi Gavin , thanks for asking me, that is a good question. I have done so many times removing the plastic panel. I always disassemble the hatch dumper at the quarter panel first . Pleas make sure you need a support to stay open the hatch , usually I put the end of the dumper on the tail light upper balance left corner with a thick towel , be careful not to bump or hit the dumper unintentionally otherwise you will get the hatch falling down on your head ! ) . The key is you disassemble the J shape bracket from the quarter panel as you will have a least obstruct for removing the plastic panel. Then No technical specialities, just slide the panel toward you really carefully. And don’t do the work when you in a cold winter , do it in summer , now you are in a perfect season to do that ! I have heard unusual heat and fire in Australia, hope it will be calmed down soon , take care . Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Blue , my 44mm has 34 choke , it is just right for the carb , racing use . I believe U20 race option was 50mm , one cylinder is approximately 500 cc , so it is suitable, isn’t it ? Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Gavin , I have heard of the issue from the seller , yes the material of the metal is the cause of imperfections of type 2 . It was made of Zinc and it is easy to twist or bend its flange if there is enough heat or if tightening torque of the securing nuts is too much . About heat , S20 has cross flow configuration , so the impact of the heat is not so serious than that of Lseries , U20 or other turn flow engine . And it is heavier than aluminum. Racing model 50 and later type 3 changed their body to aluminum . Molding technology had improved , cost matter might be acceptable for Mikuni . The seller said U20 and S20 race option are different in fueling system ,some tiny holes are specifically made for each models. U20 44’s has bigger idle port to help street ability four cylinder , 2 litter engine. S20 race option 44’s was designed for more racing use , those tiny holes don’t think about below 3000 rpm . What am I going to do with 8L camshafts? Definitely not street use ! Kats Here are some shots with type 3 , 40 mm .

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
SOLEX 44 TYPE 2 , arrived , I am so happy about this set . Jet setting is like this , Main 160 / Air. 200 / pilot 60 / pump 30 . Going to be coupled with Option “ 8L “ camshafts 300 degrees , valve lift 10mm . Also race piston compression ratio 10-11 . I am thinking using these optional parts into my spare S20 , but sometimes I tend to think the other way , going to put these into my Z432’s engine. If I do that , it would not be easy work for me getting it back to normal. Modified car’s value is lowered in most case , will it be applicable to my Z432 if I put these options into its engine ? To Use genuine optional parts , does it make any difference ? ( I would think it would have not hurt it’s value if my Z432 would have installed genuine optional parts at the dealer before the delivery in 1970 , and well documented about those extra ) Kats

Alternative Brake Vacuum Hose Source?
Hi , here is another choice of those hoses , I made them from the fuel hose 17239-E4600 . This hose is still available from local Nissan 1500 yen (13 USD ) , my friend bought it last week in Japan . I did this work in 2008 , pretty much satisfied with the results. And functioning perfectly still now , my blue 240Z and Z432 had got these hoses installed and no problems. Kats ,
