Thanks for the pointers. I think we will develop our own rub. Pretty much all of the rubs have MSG in them and I would like to avoid that. That's a pretty neat idea with the terracotta pots Yeah, that's part of the problem I was hoping for some experienced feedback to narrow down the options. This group has a bunch of very intelligent, handy people. A perfect resource for a project like this... That's a neat technique. Do you just preheat then oven then cut it off? Brisket is always good! and I can come down and check up on you.

That looks good. Yes, I know...I have a large pit and use to do a big cook for about 60 people but haven't done that in years. I still need to tweak the pit and get a digital thermometer. I tend to learn by trial and error. I thought I would start with some easier pieces of meat. Maybe some ribs... What are you using for a rub? What are you cooking on? Run time? Cooking all unwrapped or wrapping near the end? What are you burning? Thanks, Chris I have wanted to go back to charcoal for a while. I cooked for the family while out in Texas at my mother in laws on her charcoal grill. The gas grill in the back ground is all but rotted out so it was time to replace it. We heat with wood so I aught to be able to come up with some good wood for smoking... Looking forward to learning...

@siteunseen Do you need bail money today? @Mark Maras What about these ribs? As it's the fourth I thought I would tap some of you BBQ'ers to teach me this talent. I bought a new smoker this week. I have never done any smoking but as my wife is from Texas and I love brisket I thought I should learn. I would also like to learn to do ribs. So learn me something!

Did you ever try rubber fuel lines or running with the hood popped open? You need to identify a solution then make it pretty!

The car looks good. It looks pretty well finished. What else do you have to do to it?

Thanks Wheee The metal work is not at Disepyon standards, but I have gotten better at it as I've gone along and I have a better welder now than earlier which helps a lot

1971 HLS30-14938 "Lily" build
Today I worked on the door hinges some I took them apart last year bead blasted them and painted the pieces. When I reassembled them I damaged some of the paint. Especially where I had to drive the pins in. The upper hinges had an area that I missed getting painted. I worked on touching those up today. Scuffed the with 400, degreased and painted. The upper hinges got better The lower hinge still didn't get colored all the way. I shot three lighter coats on the pins and had all kinds of drips but couldn't get them to cover. Not messing with them any more for now. If it really bothers me when it's assembled. I will touch it up with a brush. I also blocked the inside of the hood and shot a coat of primer into the center section

Well it's been a little over a year and I am trying to get moving again. I have 15 months until Zcon Atlanta... This is the way the car currently sits I ordered $200 in bushings from Courtesy yesterday. I need to start working on getting the wheels back under it. Finding all the hardware is an issue. I need to try to figure out which bolts go where. I don't know that I have them all plated either

I made myself a set of seam opening pliers last year. I tried to find a set for months but finally gave up and saw a thread on another forum where I guy had made a pair. I don't know if I posted these or not... I did this work last year, I took the rear support out of one of the fenders. There are a couple of little tack welds in the corners and you have to remove the upper fender bracket. Once you remove the spot welds and the bracket. You can open the seam just a little bit and the inner fender support comes right out. Then you can get it really clean and repair the pin holes in the fender inner and outer All rebuilt The fender still needs to be finished

Mustache bar bushings
Thanks for the response. I am sure there is a market here for these. I don't think they would be overly hard to source. I don't want poly... I agree with Namerow, the engineers didn't add the funny washers for no reason

Can you tell me what's the difference?
but you're working on that!

Mustache bar bushings
@Joseph@TheZStore @James@TheZStore http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/10-2261 The Motorsport store shows these bushings but they have been out of stock for a while. Are you expecting more or working on an aftermarket source for these? Thanks, Charles

Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
I was just trying to get pointers from a professional shop. Interesting how they taped EVERYTHING. They also have the hood propped up some but already mounted. I also thought it was interesting they sprayed it all apart. I prefer to do that but I have been told it can cause color variation between panels. A good painter probably doesn't have that as much as me...

Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
Had they already sprayed the engine bay and the underside of the hood?

True Most of the roadside services here will only tow you 50 or 100 miles. Your haul is a little further than that...

Cool Trick for Plastic Rejuvenation
I wonder if some protectant would help after the procedure to prevent it drying out again?

Roadside assistance will be of limited help if you seize a wheel bearing or lose an alternator or any number of the other possibilities. They will help get you off the road and tow you to a mechanic, but you won't know an honest mechanic in the area. Also parts probably won't be readily available so you will have to get a room and wait... Best idea is to rent or borrow a car trailer and tow it home. Very little risk that way.

sweatys rebuild
Those can be a pain to get to stay. You may have to mess with the steel bracket teeth to get them to stay on..

As an aside I would be leery of trying to drive any vehicle like this home unless it was under 30 miles. The car would have to be really pristine for me to try it. I wouldn't try it with this car. I really hate breaking down on the side of a really hot interstate and hoping you don't get hit by an idiot messing with their smart phone...

I thought there was a screw in the back of the chrome trim and the black plastic finishers snapped into the chrome trim?
