My dash in my 70 is old and cracked and really needs to be totally replaced but I'm going to experiment with something first. I'm going to fill the cracks with sculptie, the heavy modeling clay sold in hobby stores that hardens over time with heat, then cover it with 3m vinyl wrap, either flat black or the black carbon fiber look. My brother in law has been certified by 3m to wrap and he thinks this would work and really look good. When I get started or ever finished, I'll send some pics.

So how exactly do you do it? Do you just place the ice on the designated area and wait so long, then chisel it off? I'm intrested because I'm getting ready to start this. Thank you.

Good post Traveling Man. George, good luck finding a Z, I know there out there, just keep looking and keep your options open. Pay close attention to some of the responces from this web site because these guys REALLY know their stuff! Good luck and remember to check the frame rails and the radiator core support. Many times small fender benders can crack or bend small body parts and they are expensive to fix.

5150 is correct. Check with your local radiator shop about "boiling" your tank out.

If your leaning toward original colors, I wonder about a complete color changeover to another original color. How would that effect the value? Do you like any other original colors?

Over the years I have talked to so many (car guys, but not really Z guys) who say, "wow, I really like your 280z" I think alot of people didn't really know the Datsuns were around in the early 70's, but later really got popular with the 75' though 82's, and those were all 280's or 280zx. I had alot of people call mine a zx also. Also, maybe the car is a 71 shell, but the guy doesn't know what he has and you could really haggle him down!

What kind of carbs do you have? What kind of ignition do you have? Are you using an electric and mechanical fuel pump, or just one? Who did the rebuild?
