  1. Richard, To clarify - the area that I am referring to is the bulkhead right behind the seats, not at the taillight panel. You do want the strap mounts at the taillight panel to be aft of the carpet edge so you can easily get into the spare tire well. There is a good possibility that your carpet edge binding is already notched at this area to fit around the strap mounts. Sorry that I was not more clear on the first response. Jim
  2. I suspect your carpet is not too long. The carpet should butt up against the vertical bulkhead ridge and the screws for the luggage strap mounts should go through the carpet - effectively securing the carpet in place. Don't cut notches in your carpet at this location.

Great set of pics, it is pretty amazing to see this car coming alive. Congrats to Cody for all his hard work and to Dad for all his support!
  4. The judging sheets received by each entrant are typically from the first round of judging. These results are used two ways: (1) they are used to determine all of the awards other than Gold Medallion or Gold Cup; (2) any car scoring 290 or more is then re-judged for Gold Medallion or Gold Cup. The re-judging is substantially more intense and detailed, most cars will lose additional points and any car still managing to hold on to 290 or more will be awarded Gold. To the best of my knowledge, the judging sheets from the second round are never released. In 2015 at Memphis, I scored 298 in Street Modified first round, losing one point on the engine and one on the interior. The second round almost killed me with a loss of an additional eight points, dropping me to 290. The judging sheets I received covered only the first round, I was never told what the additional second round deductions were for. I see this practice as intentional and probably well-meaning. If an entrant is told about every deduction on the second round, then every entrant has a strong likelihood of being awarded Gold at the next convention (if they drop below 290 at the current event).
  5. Google Chrome offered a translate. Its in Bremerhaven, Germany. 250 Euros plus another 50 for shipping - international available.
  6. 16" Rewinds, zero offset on my car with 205/55 ZR16 tires. Excellent fit within the wheel wells, no fender rub. Also very close to the OE tire diameter for no significant speedo error. Purchased at Discount Tire with tires, look for rebates or other promos. Discount was willing to negotiate a bit because it was a full package, it pays to ask.
  7. Any proximity to the thyroid gland? Autocorrect can be a PITA!!!
  8. Yep - KONI's on the shelf for a Nov. install, missing the German beer assortment. That is one seriously cool calendar!
  9. A friend had this recurring problem with his car and finally discovered that a lug hole was wallowed out
  10. This is pretty much identical to the dealer-added armrest in my car - mine does not have the raised bar on the underside. Mine was surely the AMCO offering pictured in the ad, as the dealer had already installed the front and rear overrider bars and lots of other add-ons.
  11. +1 on the front crossmember as recommended by @siteunseen. There is a box member running across the rear of the car that is also a good place for jack stands - providing you don't have any serious rust issues in the area. If you have to pull the engine and remove the crossmember, consider bolting in a 4X4 at the crossmember mount points as a substitute.
  12. Dang - sorry to hear about this but glad no serious damage was done, lots of potential for long-lasting impact in the wrist area. At least the offending vehicle is now gone from the scene. Going forward, recommend you limit your focus to activities on Z's with adequate room to work.
  13. You stole my pic rascal!
  14. The hinges ARE left and right! Look for a "L" and "R" stamped on the body - between the large flat Phillips head screws. FYI - I have a set for sale if you need replacements. Stripped, replated, ready for paint.
  15. I just spotted another unique aspect of this rail: the return nozzle opening is a "huge" 1/8th inch diameter unlike the pinhole opening in the typical 240Z or 260Z rail. This suggests it was (1) feeding a much lower fuel pressure to the carbs or (2) an allowance for a much higher fuel pressure entering the rail - possibly from an electric fuel pump.
  16. View Advert NOS Inspection Light NOS Inspection Light in absolutely pristine condition! Even the box and plastic bag are pristine. 17. @240260280 Keep on Hoovering, its out there somewhere. I Googled some RHD Fairlady Z engine pics - the few that I found all had a rail with the pivoting first mounting tang and offset supply/return nozzles.
  18. We share this rail design our our cars - it is the typical Series 1 style. There are two notable differences from the '71-72 style: the right-angle tab on the next-to-last mounting tang that you mentioned and the step-down in the tubes. Ours has a gentle slope down from the wide tang forward to the next tang. The '71-72 has a distinctive step-down at the back end. The unique rail I found has this same distinctive step-down suggesting to me it is also from the same years.
  19. I'll take the rest of the gas cap if available - ring and screws. Thanks!
  20. Altho I have not specifically lifted the edges to inspect for sealant, to the best of my knowledge none was used. I wanted to watch the install but the shop had strict rules about no customers in the work area. J3
  21. Jim - I have the Precision seal but it was purchased about 2010 when I did my resto. The installer had a lot of experience with S30's, had no difficulties getting my OE windshield back in. The SS trim went in without problems. There was one lower corner where the seal did not fill completely - a dab of sealant handled that. Jim3
  22. Nothing shameless about showing the flag. Well done as always!
  23. In working through the refurb of a group of fuel rails I came across one with some unique properties. I'm hoping @kats or anyone else with insight can help me identify the unit - is it possibly a JDM / Fairlady part? The first pic is the unique rail with a typical '71-72 240Z rail behind it for comparison. The second pic shows two unique properties: the supply and return nozzles are equal length versus offset, and the first mounting bracket is fixed - not on a pivoting insulator. The third pic shows a small brace installed in reverse. The fourth pic shows a wide mounting bracket versus a narrow one. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!
