New L 28 Goes In The 1970
Nice job! What did you guys do to finish the valve cover like that? I am wondering what the best way is to restore to stock standards. Thanks, Marty

Man, I need this dog leg treatment on my car! I need to find clean dog legs for both sides. Where did you find yours? Marty

Very wobbly at high speeds
Grab the top of the tire and rock it in and out. If the bearings are loose you will feel it, and it may even clunk. Marty

1972 240Z RIP (and what to keep)
If the battery tray area isn't rusted, I am sure several people here could use it. Same goes for just about any metal part. Myself, I need the dog leg pieces behind both doors if they are rust free. If they are, shoot me a price. Marty

Pertronix: Won't rev past 4-4.5k
I ran mine with the BR and it ended up frying anyway, ! I tried them on both my cars. The first lasted probably 6-7 years before frying. The second one only lasted about 2 years. I gave up on them and switched to a rebulit ZX dizzy and have had no trouble since. Marty

Re-read the Pertronix install instructions. It's been a long time since I installed on, but I believe is states that you still use the ballast resistor. Marty

Bigger cam?
Thanks for the good info guys. I should have mentioned that the car also has a 4.11 R180 diff. It is good to hear that you can get a significant performance improvement without the need to go with tripple carbs. Marty

Bigger cam?
I have been considering putting a hotter cam into my track day car for a while now. It has an '83 L28, bored 40 over, running the stock SU's and a header. The motor only has around 2,000 miles on it and I have been waiting for the warranty to expire (next May I think) before doing any modifications. Will changing the cam alone make that much difference? Or do you need to switch to tripple Mikuni's to really get the benefits? How tricky of a job is this? I have swapped out the entire drive train and suspension on my own, but I have never really done any work internal to the engine. Please provide the website or contact info for Delta. thanks, Marty

Where to get vintage racing number decals
I used Rat Racing Graphics: http://www.ratracinggraphics.com/ They are a NASA Sponsor and have a huge sellection of styles and fonts to choose from. Their prices were pretty good too. Marty

NOS 240Z Parts on Craigslist
Be VERY cautious of Craigslist. I have had 2 attempted scams on me in the last 2 weeks. If you can't talk to the person directly, NEVER send them any money. If they talk about using an escrow service for both of your "protection" it is probably a scam. Leave it to the scumbags to ruin an otherwise useful tool. Marty

Won't go into 5th...
Re-using your throwout bearing should be fine. As Steve has confirmed, you need to use the ZX "COLLAR" to press the bearing onto. One of the collars is shorter than the other (can't remember right now). Your best bet is to use the collar and fork that came with the ZX tranny. Marty

Won't go into 5th...
Which throwout bearing collar did you use? You need to use the one that came with the ZX tranny as it is different than the 240. Marty

So who has installed speed bleeders???
It doesn't matter what brand M/C you use, they both have to meet the OEM specs. (i.e.; brake line thred size).
-
So who has installed speed bleeders???
Yes they are different. The "S" in SB7100S stands for "short". I can't really remember why that one is supposed to be shorter. While you are ordering, buy the collector bag they offer and a tube of sealant. You'll be glad you did. Marty
-
So who has installed speed bleeders???
I was able to find the packages from the slave and master cylinders. I was pretty sure I kept them for occassions like this. Both use the same bleeder: P/N SB7100S M7x1.0 Marty

New 240Z Door Panels 70-73
Jim, I agree with you on SEM. In fact after a couple of years, I gave up looking and used SEM on an NOS black panel. The auto paint supply store matched the color almost perfectly. You could probably not tell the difference from the passenger side NOS blue panel that I was lucky enough to find. But there is nothing like a true NOS panel. The SEM has held up great for several years now. Marty

New 240Z Door Panels 70-73
One of the members who works for Nissan checked on colored panels. No luck there, only black are available in very limited quantities. If they were available in blue, I would be all over that. I have been looking for an NOS blue driver's door panel since 1998! Marty

Tires- Take offs
Thanks for the response Greg. I am not sure I would want to go with a 45 series tire. I'll have to think about that one. If I am interested, I will contact you again when the season opens up. Thanks, Marty

So who has installed speed bleeders???
It's been a long time since I put them on. I know my memory is not that good. I'll try to check my records to see if I can find the part numbers. Marty

Tires- Take offs
Hi Greg, I will be looking for some replacement track tires this year. I may be interested if you think they would be suitable for my car. I have an early '71 240Z, that I use for track days such as NASA's HPDE Program. It is equiped with Tokico Illumina's, MSA performance springs, 1" sway bar front, 7/8" rear bar. Toyota 4x4 brake upgrade. Right now I am using Hankook Z211's size 225/50/15. They are mounted on 15x7 rims. Was considering going with Toyo RA1's or R-888's. Are the Goodyear's size 225/45 also? So, what's a nominal price? Funny, I was just reading about "take offs" in Grass Roots Motorsports, and it sounded like an interesting idea. Especially with today's economy. Thanks for thinking of us! Marty

HIGH PLAINS RACEWAY, CO updates
Thanks, it was hard to tell from the video. If I had to give up my Z and get a newer track car, I would love to get a Lotus Elise. The power to weight ratio is outstanding. Plus the low weight keeps the cost of tires and brakes down too, just like the Z. Marty
