Temporary Windows?
Ok, that's great to hear. I did a quick test with a jig saw on the lexiglass and it did not fair well at all. It broke easily and got too hot very quickly. Lexan sounds like the way to go. Thanks!

Temporary Windows?
Here is what the window opening looks like. I installed a 1/4" aluminum channel on the top of the door. I had the plexiglass slid into that and attached to the weather strip lip at the top. I made it long enough that it would lay on top of the quarter window piece. Any and all ideas are welcome. Thanks, Marty

So how do you cut Lexan?

Temporary Windows?
I was going to post a picture of the current set up, but I don't have it on this computer. The car has only fiberglass shell doors and no window tracks. I made a track at the top of the door with some 1/4" aluminum channel pieces. I just need to come up with a better material and a way to secure it at the top and front.

Temporary Windows?
Does anyone have suggestions for how to make temporary windows for a race car? I just need something that will install and unistall easily. It doesn't need to be watertight, but should be able to keep out 90% of the water in the event that the weather turns bad on the way to/from the track. I fabbed up some plexi-glass ones a couple of weeks ago. They were a real PITA to cut. I then drilled a couple of holes on the weather strip edge at the roof line and screwed it into there. That was not exactly an easy install/uninstall. One of them blew out on the way to the track and broke it in two. The other side worked ok, but something fell on it and broke it. I am back to square one on this. I appreciate any suggestions you may have. TIA, Marty

Removing Headliner residue
Thanks for the suggestion. I am not re-installing the headliner, because this is a race car. I need to clean up the roof to paint it.

Removing Headliner residue
Hi Guys, When I got my latest Z, the PO had removed the headliner and left a lot of glue and foam residue on the roof. What's the best way to remove it easily? I figure somebody out there has done it, so I am looking for the easiest and least time consuming way to do this. Thanks, Marty

Does anyone know if that transmission calculator still exists? The link I had for it is dead. A search around here did not turn up a new one. thanks, Marty

The Z's welcome home a new brother
Yep. I picked this one up in Tucson about a month ago. I did not want to unveil it till the new front end was installed. It is a dedicated track car. The suspension has about everything Arizona Z Car makes on it. The entire nose, doors and hatch are fiber glass, weighing under 2100 lbs. It also has a turbo charged ZX engine with Megasquirt engine management, that was dynoed at 331 HP at the rear wheels, on its mildest tune. I am taking it to Road America on April 17 & 18th for its shake down run and then it goes into the paint shop. This should be a fun car.

The Z's welcome home a new brother
Sadly, the yellow car will be moving on to a new home to make room for the race car. It will be going to a new member up in the "Great White North". He will be missed!!!

280zx distributor - where did you get it?
I believe I got mine from Autozone about 3 years ago and have had no issues at all with it. Hell, with a lifetime warranty, it is hard to go wrong with that. Marty

What is required to bring a car into Canada
Hi Guys, I am selling my yellow '71 to a guy that lives in Toronto. For you guys up north that have bought US cars; what needs to be done and what paperwork needs to be filed to bring a car across the border after purchase in the US? Thanks for your help. Marty

Surge Tank Placement
I went out to the shop on Saturday to check this out again. With the fuel cell that is in the car, the in-tank surge would not fit. So it looks like I will re-use the surge tank that is there. We found a spot that would move it forward about 12 -18", which should d the trick. Thanks for the input! Marty

Surge Tank Placement
I believe the cell does have 2 fittings coming out the top. So with this set up, would you need 1 pump for the surge, and 1 pump to go forward to the fuel injection?

Surge Tank Placement
Another odd thing about the current set up is that it does not seem to have a vent for the tank at all.

Surge Tank Placement
Thanks for the responses guys. I'll have to see how much usuable space I have further forward. That would keep the cost down by re-using what I already have. Although I will most likely have to re-do the lines. If there is not enough room, or the cost of the braided lines is about the same, I will put it inside the cell. Thanks again. Marty

Surge Tank Placement
Hi Guys, I just picked up a '71 240Z Track car, that is set up for road racing. I have never had a pupose built race car before, so this car has a lot of firsts for me. It is turbo charged for one, with a Megasquirt system, so I need to learn about fuel injection. I have it at a race shop right now getting a fiber glass front end fitted on it. One of the things the shop owner brought to my attention is that it has a surge tank mounted very close to the rear valance and next to the fuel cell. That could be very dangerous if I get hit from behind or go into a wall backwards. His suggestion was to move the surge tank up under the hood where it would be more protected. Unfortunately his shop deals mostly with vintage racers and he does not have a lot of experience with fuel injection either. My questions is: would moving the surge tank up under the hood be a good place for it? Or is there a reason that it has to be next to the fuel cell? TIA, Marty
