  1. That gives the height. I was looking for the width of the spoiler from the back of the hatch to the front.
  2. Can you tell what the width (front to back) of the spoiler is at the base? Thanks, Marty
  3. It's good to hear you may start making them. It will not do me any good though, as I need to get it on the car before an April 17th track day.
  4. So the BSR version is even higher that the Victory? Does anyone sell that? Marty
  5. That's a good price. I suppose the group buy is over? I am glad to hear the fit and quality is good. Thanks, Marty
  6. MSA has a new version of the BRE Style rear spoiler. It is 5 3/8" tall versus the standard BRE which is 3 7/8" tall. Has anyone out there bought and fitted one? I was wondering about quality of materials and fitment. I want a BRE style spoiler and like the idea that it is a little taller. TIA, Marty
  7. One more word of caution... Don't do it unless you are willing to get addicted!!! A friend of mine kept bugging me to go to a drivers school just to try it out. I went to the 1 day school and that was it, I was hooked!! That was 7 years ago. The other thing to keep in mind is that driving on a track is very hard on a car. Things can break. Accidents do happen. If you are not willing to leave the car at the track after a mishap, don't take it there. Your insurance company most likely won't cover you either. In my case I didn't want to risk messing up my blue car. That lead me to buying my yellow car for track use. And like I said, this is addictive, which is why I am in the process of buying a purpose built race car. That being said, I don't want to ruin it for you. It truly will be a blast driving your 240Z the way is was meant to be driven. Have fun! Marty
  8. If you are worried about having enough brakes, you could switch to the Toyota 4x4 brakes and braided lines. That is a definite improvement. High boiling point brake fluid is also a good idea, but if you have fresh DOT 3, you should be ok. Start out with the tires at about 32 lbs pressure. Most tires have a little ^ near the edge of the tread. Take a bottle of white liquid shoe polish with you place a white dot over the ^. When you come off the track, look at the dot and see how much of it is worn off. If the dot is worn away right up to the ^, then your tire pressure is probably pretty good. You want to see your tires rolling over right up to the ^. Have fun, and like someone said, drive within yours and the cars limits. You don't want to wad up that pretty Z! Marty
  9. With everything I wanted to do to my car, it was just cheaper to buy a different car that had all the work already done. I am ending up with a turbo charged 240Z with WAY more horse power than carbs could provide. So, my yellow '71 will be up for sale soon. Marty
  10. Wolf Creek Racing will supply you with a complete 44MM Triple Mikuni set up with rebuilt, race-prepped carbs, manifold and linkage for $1550. They have been racing Datsuns for 25 years and really know what they are doing. If I was going the Mikuni route, I would go with them. My 2 cents. Marty
  11. I popped the retainer springs off. That was enough to allow the cam to move freely. Thanks!
  12. Is the follower the surface that the cam lobe rides on? How exactly do the come off?
  13. I had to pull the head on my L24 to change the blown head gasket. Two of the head bolts broke off. I didn't have the time or the tools to deal with that, so I took it over to a local engine builder. They did a nice job on it. Today, I want to put everything back together. I noticed that the cam has moved out of place from where it was when I took it in to get fixed. I can't seem to get the cam to rotate. That seems odd. I did not want to force it. So I have a couple of questions. What is the best way to rotate the cam? How much force does it take to rotate it? Also, does it spin in only one direction? TIA, Marty
  14. Sorry, I must be a little Dyslexic today, ! That would be Tucson, AR.
  15. Hi guys, I need to pick up a car in Tuscon on March. 6th. I will be driving out from Chicago on March. 5th, with a 20' Enclosed trailer that will be empty. If you or anyone you know needs a car delivered to the Tuscon area or anywhere in between, please PM me. We can work out a good deal for both of us. Thanks, Marty
  16. Here is your chance to drive on track at Road America, one of the premier tracks in the country. April 17 & 18th. Road America offers 4 miles of track with 14 turns in a beautiful setting. There will be 4-5 sessions per day at 20 minutes each. The event is hosted by the Midwest F-Body Association. All Marques are welcome. I have run with this group for several years and it is always a great time! Never driven on a track before?? No problem! There will be plenty of qualified instructors on hand, including yours truly. They need 20 more entries per day by Feb. 14th. So if you are at all interested in driving at a Historic track, sign up today!!! http://roadamerica.fbody.us/ Hope to see you there, Marty
  17. Well there's a thought! I do need to get the front end and doors painted on the new car. It may not cost that much more to turn it yellow. Since I going to use the flywheel, clutch and collar that are in there now. I think I should be fine. Marty
  18. I know I will regret it. Hell, I am having second thoughts already, !! I wanted to get more HP and performance. That would have meant coilovers, camber plates, an LSD, a hotter cam and triple Mikuni's. That would have got me about 230HP and a seriously quick car. But, I am sure after a couple of years I would have been looking for still more HP. It was cheaper in the long to just get a race that was already done. Besides, the yellow car is just too nice to start cutting into. Marty
  19. Well, I let my track obsession get the best of me, !! I went out and bought a purpose built track car, so I need to let the yellow Z go. I want to keep the '83 L28 and 5 spd as spares for the track car, so I am putting the original drive train back in the car before I sell it. Guess I will have to resign from the Yellow Z Car Club now, !!! Marty
  20. It's been awhile since I had to deal with this issue, so I thought I would throw out my plan and have you guys confirm my thinking. The car is an early '71. I currently have an '83 ZX motor and 5 spd in it. The flywheel is a 240mm from a 2+2 with a matching Nissan clutch. Auto adjust slave cylinder for the 5spd, with the ZX throwout bearing collar and fork. I am going to put the original L24 and 4 spd back in. I intend to put in the fly wheel, clutch, throwout bearing collar, fork and slave cyinder from the ZX set up. My understanding is that if you keep all of this the same, it will match up to either trans, correct? TIA, Marty
  21. Hmmmn, I am surprised you let a snow plow out on your pretty new track! It's really sick how they tear up the streets around here. Marty
  22. I have used Speed Bleeders for several years and like them a lot. Darrell, I put about a 10-12' hose right onto the bleeder on one end and attached to a Speed Bleeder collection bag on the other. I can hold onto the bag in the driver's seat while pumping the brakes and see exactly what is coming out. It works great! Marty Damn, track days already!! We have to wait till April around here.
  23. Ask Darrell. The clubs near Denver just finshed building one last year I think. Marty
  24. Did you put any bushing grease on the bump stop before install? I was wondering if it would squeek without it? I will definitely be using this method. Marty
  25. Sorry I don't have a resolution to your problem. But if I were you, I would build a splash shield under those carbs to keep gas well away from the carbs. Leaky Webers burned up my first 240Z. Good luck. Marty
