  1. I just did a search under Automotive Gauge Repair in Portland and came up with a company that does tach repairs in addition to other gauges. The search function on the internet will find most anything. And don't worry about a Z tach being all that unusual internally.
  2. When it comes to clubs, one has to remain cognizant of the 10/90 rule. Ten percent of the members do ninety percent of the work and the 90% just ride along either participating or not as the mood moves them. Ask me how many clubs it took me to fully understand this particular concept...... Datsun Driving Canby Fun is coming up in mid june if you'd like to join us. www.datsunsnw.org for info. There is a pretty active autocross group in central Oregon.......
  3. Curious how many of you that want to be a part of this year's event would like to or be able to attend an autocross on Friday? Getting a reasonable car count for the autocross will play a part in doing it or not. Let me know and I'll gather the numbers and forward to the proper folks.
  4. In the line up of things to tackle right off the bat, assuming it's running, I'd get the hydraulics cleaned out and freshened up along with (as you said) rubber lines in the engine compartment. Oh, and belts and hoses. Oh, and you need carbs.
  5. Carl, Nice deal. A period set with no road stress on them. Can't beat that.
  6. Back in the day, there was a trend to those exhaust tips. They didn't do anything noise wise, just something to sell you to replace what you bought last year...... this "latest greatest" crap has been going on since Moses was a lad.
  7. Don't forget to check that both carbs are opening together. We've helped too many fight problems only the find out they failed to secure both carbs to the center linkage. Doesn't matter though cause you need new carbs anyway...... My standard friday afternoon answer.....
  8. Thanks I thought there was something museum-wise on site. Can a guy do both in a day?
  9. That should make it easier to get into the Peterson Museum I guess. Oh well.
  10. Steve Epperly and I are working on three or four things, none of which would make it happen, but together could get us a much needed ROAD TRIPThe last week of Feb. Anyone have particulars on the when of the POMONA Swap Meet? We may have some hauling capacity too for stuff needing to move up or down I-5
  11. Welcome to the site. Good bunch of folks here for help if you need it. From the looks of your car you appear to have things well in hand knowledge wise. I do have a question though: At speed does the wind whistle areound the legs on that trophy? :stupid:
  12. Pursue Carl's suggestion first, particularly if it is "spraying" on the transmission. Were it a head gasket, I'd suspect "oozing" and drooling down the block..... I'm going to venture a guess that $750 would cover the replacement of a head gasket.
  13. Road tripGo to www.datsunsnw.org and check out the Datsun Driving Canby fun '09 out side of Portland next June.... Lots of time to get 'er finished up, but don't dally too lonng
  14. Those H series carbs are in fact designations for the SU SU's. Our Hitachi carbs are equivalent of the HS series. HS6 is the comparable to the 46mm Z and 2liter roadster carbs. With your order will come the JUST SU's DVD which I can guarantee will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about these carbs.
  15. Welcome aboard. Check out www.datsunsnw.org for club info and event info for the Canby June event etc.
  16. Waaaaay more than I ever wanted to know. Know 'ut I mean Vern?
  17. There really isn't much need for a lot of needle choices. There basically are 2 choices. The stock needles tend to run a little lean but basically are fine. The SM needle is a European SU grind that was identified back in the 70s as a performace step up and has been very popular ever since. We will supply either per the customer's request. The carb / Z car package has been very well sorted out for years and once a set of these Hitachis are returned to square one i.e. everything new, they are the easiest carbs in the world to keep up with.
  18. What Paul said.......
  19. Had an algebra teacher in Idaho that did the ZED thing. I'm sure she picked up as a child on Mars. Man was she weird!!
  20. Be conscious of the fact that some flanges share studs with the intake and if you remove too much from either will leave the other flange thicker. This can lead to uneven clamping force by the big thick washer on the thin portion of the flange.
  21. Give Canyon Auto Paint a call 253-535-1335 for suggestions on where you might find qualified help. They are good folks and a Zero Rust jobber as well..... goota love it!!
  22. That's why, especially in a recession, the bodyshops love winter. It's a great business generator. Being new to the area, you might want to stop by a local automotive paint jobber store (or call 'em) and solicite suggestions as to shops or individuals they know of that are skilled in this type of pull-out repair. Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield......
  23. And the carbs that were on the car when it went away, are now total junk and yes, they need to be replaced. That's the new standard answer for '09...... Nyuck nyuck Safe Sane Holidays Y'all
  24. Just curious about the kind of Z specfic things you're thinking about. The early Z and most any of the other early Datsuns were about a sophisticated as your average garden tractor and most any "general repair" mechanic (if you can find one) should be able to tackle most anything on them. I'd say that may be your next goal, to go looking for a "mechanic" rather than your run of the mill parts replacer which seems to be what we have around today.....
  25. Here's where we get too specific about things being Datsun and needing to be worked on by someone Datsun profiicient. Any decent transmission shop can seal up a tranny, be it Datsun or whatever........
