  1. Sorry if I wasn't too clear in my original response to your question. If you're looking for public opinion, you're going to find that opinions are like belly buttons - everyone has one. Those who have stripes on their cars will really like them a lot and those who don't have stripes probably don't have them for what they feel is a very good reason. Like I earlier suggested, stripe just one side and live with it for a while. Most people won't realize only one side is striped. See which side you prefer after a given period of time. Then, either add a stripe to the other side or peel off the existing strip. QED Most Zs don't have the side stripes which indicates most people prefer a Z without stripes. That doesn't mean side stripes are bad, it just means some people like them and most prefer the plain look. As an easily changed cosmetic addition, stripes shouldn't greatly alter value or observer appreciation. Dennis
  2. You asked one of those questions that only you, as the owner, can answer. I suppose if you really can't decide and it totally bugs the snot out of you, you could stripe the driver's side and leave the passenger side plain. Dennis
  3. There are actually two seals that may leak where the speedometer cable goes into the transmission - the obvious O-ring and a smaller inner seal. See this link for more info. 240z Transmission Leak- Speedometer O-Ring Area Dennis
  4. Have you talked to the folks at MSA about installation instructions or tips you might use when installing the kit? Often, the instructions simply say, "Professional installation recommended." Dennis
  5. How would it look with a light coating of off white spray paint applied to the inside of the lens? Dennis
  6. Prior to adjusting the latch or shimming the hinges, I'd suggest parking the Z in a sunny spot for a few days with the doors closed and let the seals compress naturally. This seems to be a very common occurrence, my '71 did the same thing with new seals, a day in the summer sun fixed the issue. Messing with latch alignment and hinge shims seems like it opens the door, so to speak, for other problems as the new seals settle in. Dennis
  7. I believe the Google artificial intelligence equates owning a sports car to having an arrest record - probably not that big of a stretch, but a forum annoyance just the same. Dennis
  8. Anything is possible and it depends on one's ability to do or pay for fab work. The big question might be, "Is it worth the cost & effort?". Only you can answer that question. Dennis

Nice job! How difficult was it to trim the 2nd hand to accept the stock time adjuster? Dennis
  10. If you ever get a chance to talk to any of the old timers at the factory, they'll speak with reverence about the legendary "Zed-Quatro-Zero" project from the early 1970s. You won't find pictures of it in any of the Nissan/Datsun historical books because of the hush hush nature of the project. I had heard that all of them had been destroyed after the project folded, but it appears at least one left hand drive example made its way to the States. Dennis
  11. They never show up on ebay. Dennis
  12. I think that Z40 falls somewhere between the Z28 Camaro and the new ZXX Ferrari. A rare find for anyone who has been searching for a Z40! Dennis

Not sure when the EN fabric designator was dropped. Your cover looks like the typical polycotton covers that were good for blocking sun and keeping bird droppings off the car. They were not waterproof and allowed moisture to evaporate out through the fabric. They can be tossed in the washer and dryer as needed. I don't have any Z covers left but still have a few Porsche covers that are left over from my "selling" days. Dennis

Now that you know the "What", here's the "Where". Covercraft PartLink Plus Covercraft has changed and added new materials over the years, so you won't see the "EN" (92/EN) fabric seen in the picture on their current site. However, the "92" pattern designator for the early Z remains the same. Good products and last a long time. I was a distributor for them last century. Dennis

Based on the "92" code number on the front, it appears to be a Made in the USA Covercraft brand aftermarket cover with a Datsun logo screened on the front. Not as rare as it might seem. Sorry to rain on the parade. Dennis
  16. Seems to be lacking a few tail lights. To see still pictures and video of the build, click the links below: Car Warriors - Datsun 240Z Photo Gallery Car Warriors - S01E04 - Datsun 240Z 1973 - YouTube Dennis
  17. Satellite radio seems to produce sound quite nicely through the Bose sound system in my Infiniti G37 convertible. Cars aren't really known for their concert hall acoustics and audio quality reproduction anyway, so it's probably a moot point. When I think of good places to listen to high quality audio, a car is near the bottom of the list. Most of the owners of cars I see with amps and big speakers are more interested loud than quality it seems. Dennis
  18. Pandora just changed their format, yesterday, from unlimited free to 40 hours a month. There's a nominal charge if you want to go beyond the free allotment. Ever consider satellite radio? Dennis
  19. Any lessons learned from that adventure that you'd care to share with us (insurance, legal, driving technique)? Dennis
  20. Are you speaking euphemistically or are you really asking about bread and Oreos? Dennis
  21. #2 answers #1 and #3. As for #4, ignore the expiration date and toss it out when it turns green Dennis
  22. Speaking on behalf of "some of our older members", let me say that as long as we have young whippersnappers like you interested in Zs, there is no doubt our cars will reach the 100 year milestone. And now, back to my nap. Dennis
  23. Cylinder head racing could be next with four cylinder, V6, V8, and straight six classes.....might even be a class for exotic 10s and 12s Dennis

I think you'll find that the stock engine has more than enough HP to either keep you entertained or attract the attention of the law. Ask many of us how we know. Dennis
  25. The line forms behind me. No cuts. After 42 years with my first Z it might be time for another. Dennis
