That certainly shows the darker side of Angeles City, New Balibago. American influence and money don't always bring out the best in people. After the US got out of Viet Nam, the Russians moved into some of the abandoned bases. The locals referred to them as "Americans without money". On a more pleasant note, there were plenty of other things to do in the PI and SEA that didn't involve the downtown bars. It was an interesting part of the world for a 23 year old. Dennis

A couple days ago I asked if anyone had a picture of how they dressed when their Z was new. That started me searching to see if I had any from 1971. Here's a picture of what a well dressed new Z owner (me) wore in November of 1971in Northern Wisconsin. I was an Air Force 1st Lieutenant fresh back from living in the Philippines for a year and a half while keeping the world safe from Communism. Be sure to check out the white leather sheepskin lined jacket I had picked up in India while traveling around Asia. Also note the grey cashmere turtleneck sweater. I was cooler than the snow I was standing in. Dennis

Other than both having two doors and four wheels, not much else is the same. Fun collector item, however. It's kind of like the bootleg record albums that were made in Taiwan in the 1970s. I remember a Johnny Cash country album with the picture of a Black singer on the record sleeve. Dennis

I think we all have those "I just want to get in the Z and drive without having to fix something, again" days...or weeks....or years. Kind of explains those Barn Find Zs that turn up from time to time. Be strong! Dennis

Find a shop and ask what they need. When I've had it done, the shop I used only needed a line drawing that was then scanned and the engraving machine did the rest..

A good engraving shop can scan a graphic, resize as needed, and then engrave it on metal. Shouldn't be too big a deal for a good shop. Dennis

Not sure what kind of hubs and knock offs you're talking about, but any local trophy shop should be able to handle your engraving needs. Dennis

Add me to those who say to just repair the damage and move on. It will appeal to a larger group of buyers than the BRE look. The analogy above comparing it to a real estate sale was spot on. The less personalized, the wider attention from potential buyers. Dennis

The red handles would certainly liven up the interior if one wasn't concerned about orginality. I like it. Dennis

As noted above by John. However, location of the tank also contributed to the process in rear end collisions as the tank was between the differential and the rear bumper and would come into contact the bolts mentioned on impact. In one of the many legal cases, the Studebaker Avanti was referenced as having its gas tank in a safer location above the differential and between the trunk and the back seat. The Avanti was used as an example to show that the proper design was common knowledge at the time the Pinto was built. i remember a political cartoon published at the time of the Pinto issue that depicted a B52 bomber dropping Pintos instead of bombs over Vietnam Dennis

The wrap material mentioned earlier would certainly give various texture choices, like carbon fiber, but would not play well with the speaker holes on the rear side panels. The sprays look nice if a good cleaning doesn't work. Dennis
