My neighbors carry their pushmower to get the blades sharpened. One guy took his off and had them sharpened. Put them on upside down and mowed his yard the whole summer. Ask me why it wasn't filling the bagger up.

Hey Cliff, First - Happy New Year, I hope you and yours remain safe in the coming months. Here's a pic of a recent horn pad repair I did. I opened a channel around the plastic collar with a small Dremel grinding bit, then added a light wire collar to tighten the cracks. Tighten some, check for fit, tighten more as might be required. I bought a Snap On 2 ton floor jack about 35 years ago. It was actually made by Walker for Snap On, looking exactly the same as Walker jacks of the same era, only painted red with Snap On decals. It has served me well, still working perfectly. I had to add another jack when I got the Ram 3500 in 2001. It weighs around 8,000 lbs or so. The options were another floor jack like the 2 ton Snap On only rated to lift more, which are large and cumbersome, or an air over hydraulic heavy duty jack. I chose the latter. Rated at 22 tons it is a bit of overkill, but the design makes it easier to use in tight spaces. And it proved useful when I picked up a motor grader 15 years ago, which weighs in at 25,000 lbs.

I really need to do that replacement. I took the horn pad out of the car and brought it inside my house. Darn thing started falling off on the smallest bumps in the road. Then gets under my pedals and trying to move with a 240 seatbelt on is immposdible. They do not give any at all. I can't even use the radio while I'm driving. But I do like that feeling, kind of race car-ish.

No, they're the chrome ones from Vietnam. Bought them from futofab.com on a Black Fiday sale 5 years ago? and they look great. I highly recommend those and futofab. But he's on the right coast so shipping was a lot less for me. There's others that sale them, zcardepot.com right off the top of my head. Those stainless ones are from the Harrington group I think. They're a good bit more costly too. I also bought new brake light combo buckets from futofab. Love those too. They have the orange lens on bottom, European spec I believe but they look mighty good on my orange car. Further disassembly of the suspension components was undertaken yesterday. With the front crossmember bare, I turned by attention to addressing the dents in the bottom that had occurred over the cars time on the road. A few pics after grinding surface gunk off: Where possible, I use different sizes of sturdy C clamps and some 1/4" thick steel plate pieces to straighten dents such as these. Putting the plates (small rectangular ones) on the inside and outside of the metal to be straightened and then clamping very tightly with the clamps pulls the metal back where it was originally. I also used the stud welder and puller tool on a few small spots. Finished with a light sanding by the DA sander and 80 grit. The scratches and slight imperfections/low spots are easily resolved with just a touch of body filler. Straightening was only about and our and a half of work. The final result after sand blasting priming and painting should be really nice.

We'll be back into the 50's by Monday. Colorado at 5K feet is like that - winter alternates with moderate temps. I got a compact sub to add low end to my stereo, but it has to fit under the driver's seat. I'll run the car to my garage and loosen the seat to see if it will fit. Got my fingers crossed, there's not a lot of room under the 280ZX seats.

The Kanga videos are great and have been very helpful for sure. I’ve studied quite a bit, I’m just being overly cautious with this being my first time. It’s actually progressing nicely and I can see how minimal adjustments could make a big difference in efficiency.

@siteunseen I found the plastic horn button retainer on Zcardepot. I haven’t had a chance to install it yet, too busy with the engine refresh at the moment. It looks like it will work well though.

Timid attempt at a DIY port and polish. More time spent studying than cutting... Upon close inspection the original casting is pretty rough in spots, trying to clean it up without finding water!

got the heater working. Blinkers stopped working, its always something.

$55,000 for the silver 71. The seller called himself cobrajet and said that he had had several 240Z's in the past. Either didn't set a reserve or set it below 55 (obviously). Seemed like a car guy with a collection just moving one along.

Can't help you on the door cards. There's a thread by @grannyknotkicking around here from 4 or 5 years ago where he fabbed some cards using a home-made mold. Others have made them from fibreglass. As for the skins, Mike at Banzai Motorsports has offered these for many years, complete with the bonded-in-place chrome trim strip. They're not cheap ($500/pr) but Mike has a solid reputation for offering restoration-grade soft trim pieces. he says, "My soft trim is manufactured by the same domestic company that supplied Nissan's Z store program in the 90s". I am still working to round up the fasteners and send them off to be plated. I find myself bead blasting some of them like these. I wish I knew if it was necessary... From a comment by @motorman7 in "the Orange" rebuild thread, I think the plater he uses (and I plan to use) might prep the fasteners, and so my bead blasting may not be necessary. I just don't want to take the chance that they aren't prepped properly? Another nice thing about working with a car that spent its entire life in the southwest/in storage, the fasteners, even ones is "wet" locations like the front valence, are nearly corrosion free: After bead blasting, they look really nice: Clips: After bead blasting: Here is a little tip to pass along: I have found that it is possible to "fix" phillips head fasteners that have had slight displacement of the metal by the screwdriver. Oftentimes the fasteners are slightly rusted and hard to break loose. And the screwdriver slips causing miner cosmetic damage, like on this one: I have found that placing the screw on solid metal surface (like a vice) and tapping on the phillips area with a hammer an restore or nearly restore the factor fresh appearance. It only takes a couple of seconds and will make the re-plated part look a lot nicer. This bolt came from the front anti-roll bar brackets to the frame of the car. Note that the yellow paint used by assembly like workers on this car was a gloss yellow. I think I'd like to replicate the yellow on the fasteners underneath the car during final assembly. We'll see.

It alters both actually. they all interplay. The diameter of the steering wheel determines the amount of circumferential movement of your hand required to turn the wheels a set amount. Basically the ARC LENGTH S that is swept is the variable that changes with diameter. 1. To turn the wheel a certain amount on a small wheel to take a corner is say 4" of circumference travel (S). 2. If you use a bigger wheel that is twice the diameter, you will have to turn 8" of circumference travel (S) to take the corner. The larger diameter wheel has more mechanical advantage and a perception of finer control for the same steering input.

Yep. February is about the only month I don't mow. I do all my neighbor's yards too so they all look good. I enjoy it plus the extra money is nice. Oh yeah, my neighbors LOOOVE me so I can do what I want and they look the other way. Nice little spot to live.

I am having regulator and windows issues too. I did some reading and one of the plastic "bushings" is a common problem. Some link replacements are below so you dont have to do any drilling out. I bought both of them to test out. This year is a big ball of crap that is falling. I never understood it either Cliff. I did the Times Square Ball drop when I was 17. Then had to act like I was in a scene from the movie Escape from NY to get back to Queens. Living in NYC was to worst 2 yrs of my life. Not sure if I told you that I lived there for 2 hrs total, once when I was 11 and again at 17. I was kidnapped in 1981 walking home from school in Queens. Dragged into a car by a man and about 5 mins later I jumped out of the car doing about 35 mph in the on ramp for the Long Island Expressway.
