  1. My apologies for the confusion. I was writing in reference to the emblem. The 1969 builds and probably less than the first 500 HLS30s had emblems with chromed Zs and solid metal castings. By April of 1970 and a serial number in the upper 2000s, I would suspect the emblem was the hollow casting white painted Z which prevailed until the cabin vent was relocated and the emblem was changed. Your car, RetSarge, would be considered an "early car", indeed.
  2. 1000/1500/2000/3000 grit then cutting pad and swirl and haze remover. This is about an 80% solution to the finished panel. I will do a complete polish after the car is all sanded.
  3. Yeah it has been a while since i worked on the car myself. but i decided it's time to assemble all t he small bits and pieces into "subassemblies" whever possible. Last week i worked on the moustache bar. So here we got the puzzle in single pieces: The powdercoating company also coated the inside of the bushing shells, so i cleaned them with the dremel tool Added som fresh Bushing grease: And in with the new bushings And all hardware combained. ready for installation. It looks like a simple thing, but if you think what work went into it: - Everything had to be disassembled from the car first - The moustache Bar got sandblasted - The bar got primered and powdercoated - Old Hardware fasteners got cleaned (in the rattler), zinc plated and yellow passivated - New OEM Nissan Locking nuts and washers ordered and added - New Polyurethane Bushings with bushing grease Hope to find some time for some other work again soon, it's fun after all ?
  4. That one looks to be in excellent condition, I would say it has had an easy life so far.
  5. I've only read about them breaking for the guys that have V8's and abuse them.
  6. Thinking about it a little more, there is also the possibility that yours got so completely petrified that it cracked into pieces and fell off sometime in the past.
  7. Yes there should be a seal on the cap, and I bet you DO have one there. It's just hard as a rock from heat and age and it looks and feels like it's hard plastic and part of the cap. But in fact, it's a separate piece. #40 GASKET-OIL FILLER CAP - 15270-78500 Note that the early cars (through mid-71) used a different number, but from that point on, everything used the 15270-78500.
  8. It is indeed. Unfortunately I've not had the time to drive it for over 6 months...
  9. @RetSarge - Back to your original post about a restoration. Your costs can vary widely depending on your approach. Returning the car to as it rolled out of the factory, i.e. stock, wil be very costly. Many of the Nissan OE parts are NLA and when found they are often "a king's ransom" in price. Another option is a very mild resto-mod where reproduction and aftermarket parts are used for the NLA parts but the ones selected are not readily visible or retain the original appearance of stock. I can send you my build sheet from 10 years ago via PM to give you some idea of the breadth of parts involved in a resto. Jim
  10. I've had no issue with using the TC rod mounting points and the reinforced bits at the rear on a two-poster.
