  1. I took her out for the inaugural drive round the cul-de-sac. Had to watch out for the snow and ice in the corner but....oh wait, I live in SoCal. It's 80 degrees and sunny. (Just had to throw that in for the East coasters). Anyway, car is running great and is very nice to drive. Now I just have to finish up a bunch of details and she is good to go. Boy, it drives nice! Love having the new shocks and bushings. It is very smooth. Looks like the short engine video is loading. Feel free to turn the sound up Engine Vid.mp4
  2. Joined not to long ago with my 1980 280zx 10th Anniversary and needed a few things - Posted a request on the forum and within a day I had a response . Want to thank member "JSM" for his help and kindness - Its a great site for the Z lover. Happy New Years & Thanks Horst
  3. I received a message from a friend today. He sent me this picture asking if it was my car. It got featured in coverage of The Mitty in 2016.
  4. Yes, Nissan calls it a sleeve. We call it a collar. It must match the pressure plate finger height, nothing else. Even the parts makers get things wrong in their specs. Measurements are necessary unless you're a gambler.
  5. Mark, not to get all nit-picky, but the pilot bearing is actually in the crankshaft. Just did that when I replaced the main seal. Cheers, Mike
  6. Oh yeah, here's another little thing that makes a huge difference while you're there. Replacing those plastic bushings on the shifter with bronze door hinge bushings. Thanks @240260280 http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/shifterbushing/index.html Oh yeah again, make sure you get the slave rod and pedal all adjusted right. Before they started using the automatic adjusting slave cylinder the older ones were able to be longer or shorter by loosening the nut and running out or in the rod. When i first bought my 240 it wouldn't get up the driveway from slipping so bad. I got on here and read how to adjust them and ran that old clutch for a year until I rebuilt the motor. Sorry but I'm just getting up and some coffee in me, starting to remember things after a few cups. Removing the old console is tricky too if you haven't done that yet, you have to unplug the choke light switch to the left of the radio. Then the choke holder from the console. Mine was cracked already so I bought the tunnel mount from Art Singer, one of the best cheap upgrades of all time in my opinion. Well I just found out it's for the later 240s. https://zcardepot.com/choke-lever-mounting-plate-reinforcement-240z.html
  7. Quick update guys... rewired everything that connectsto to alternator and new diode. New grounds and rechecked power connectors. Alternator was still giving me issues. It turned out every time I tested alternator it passed test. From AutoZone, O'Reilly to Napa. They all tested PASS.. I bought new alternator and Voila !!! It was bad alternator from the start. The test bench passed them but i believed with load and revs above 3k RPM the alternator was faulty. Test bench test has minimal load, rpm less then 2.5 I guess if anyone has issues like me and all connectors are clean and done correctly just buy new alternator.
  8. Is this the case with Poly bushings? He said he went Poly in the first post...
  9. The easy way to "kinda" test for lean I learned from a Nissan certified mechanic. He put some taped up vise grips on the return line to build more pressure and my car ran better. He didn't know about the "tweak" and said I needed a new FPR or pump or injectors...blah, blah, blah. $5 dollars at Radio Shack and 30 minutes later it ran better than ever. But I would think, just for smog test not everyday driving, you could lean one out the same as make one richer. I know I played with mine for months while driving. I could change the Temp, gas mileage and how it ran up top and from take off. It was fun for awhile.
  10. Today I could not resist putting a metal fan. I will let it operate until replacing a water pump , I am thinking I will need to do it with in a few years. Kats
  11. Ok thank you Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  12. The best advice I can give you is to put all the wiring back to stock specs. Then, at the 6-pin connector that normally plugs into the Voltage Regulator (VR), due the following.... Connect the white and yellow wires together. Connect the black/white and white/black together using the diode. The stripe on the diode goes to the white/black wire. Use an internally regulated 60 amp alternator (81' to 83' 280ZX and other similar units) That's the best I can do for you at the moment. Dave
  13. Going for Cars and Coffee tomorrow at Zup's house. Based on tomorrows weather forecast in Bentonville, 18 is the high, it will be Cars and Ice Coffee.
