I also noticed one other date stamped part that I haven't seen people discuss before, the door latch mechanism on the back of the door. #32 is dated 9-8 (August 1969) and #331 is dated 9-10 (Oct 1969). I have checked #237 and my 5/72 in the past and they conform to this year - month dating as well.
Interesting. My car isn't an early car, but I can confirm this as well. Mine are stamped '1-6' (June 1971) in a 7/71 built car.

I can confirm this as well.

The stamping is 0 5 on the door latches for my 7/70.

Also noted that the clamshell striker on the jamb is stamped 0 5 Y located on the outside face down where the slider for the door dovetail covers it. I don't know what the Y designates, but it is an original yellow car. Coincidence??

On the side---do you guys cars have the small formed rubber cover still intact that cushions the leading latch knob as it hits the striker?

Both of the latches on my car still have them---the drivers side is more worn and has a hole right where it contacts the striker. I managed to find one good one on the 10/70 parts car passenger side and figured out how to remove it in good condition. I will eventually replace the one on the drivers side of the 7/70 with it.

I was also struck by the door dovetails on the 7/70. They are handed right and left. By this I mean the ramp or sloped portion of the dovetail is only on one side which makes it fit only the right or left door by the way it slopes.

I compared it to dovetails from the 72 and 73 cars and they have dovetails that slope both ways from the center---making them interchangable from either side.

I love these little points----stuff ya just don't see talked about much anywhere but here! :classic:

Even though mine is not an early model, 7-73, these date stamps can also be found on the very top of the gas tank and the back of the steel evaporator tank. Both have to be removed to be viewed.

I also would like to know the exact day in July of 73 mine was made as I have always wondered (and hoped) it was made on my 18th birthday, the 6th. My VIN number and the highest number from a 73 I have seen, seem to be about 3 thousand cars difference. There are differences in what number is the "Last 240Z". From my understanding they made about that number (more or less) each month, so that would put mine at the first part of the month yet past 7-3 which is on the gas tank.

The evaporator tank has the earlier date and the gas tank has the later date.

There was a conversation years ago about the validity of the manufacturing date on the door tag. The point was made that the tag represented a "date of shipping". The November date stamp on 26th is a perfect example of the presented case. Obviously, 26th was assembled in October, however I believe the original engine was replaced before she was shipped.

Hi , this is an old thread , but I want to activate this forum again , to understand when the windshields were made .

Have we discussed it before ? Our cars have ASAHI glasses , each glass has each stamps.

Here is a decoding method for our glasses. Using the method, my rear gate glass maybe made in February 1970 .

Hi , this is the front windshield for S30 series cars . 72631-E4100 is a tinted glass which was applied to all S30 cars except PS30-SB ( Fairlady Z432-R ) and 1969 HLS30 and HS30 .There might be some exceptions .

I checked the secret codes , this windshield could be made either February 1974 or 1984 or 1994 or 2004 or 2014 .

The part number label is not the earliest type for S30 series cars . Also it is not the later type . So I guess this could be made either 1984 or 1994 .

I found this label at the back of the wrapping, it says 95/03/04

(1995 March 04th) .This stamp could mean this windshield were delivered to Hiroshima region soon after it was made.

So the markings on the windshield would very much say February 1994 .
What do you think of it?
