  2. I have taken the time to research this on the Japanese side, trawling through numerous Japanese market factory parts manuals for Nissan models made during the 1960s and early 70s period. I found some pointers. Dates quoted are the dates for the publication of the parts manual concerned: *Model 31 Nissan Cedric - 1963 - Both Zinc and Cadmium protective coatings applied to fasteners/components. *Model 310 Nissan Cedric - 1964 - Both Zinc and Cadmium protective coatings applied. *Model 410 Bluebird - 1964 - Both Zinc and Cadmium applied. Then, *B10 Sunny - 1966 - Zinc. *510 Bluebird - 1967 - Zinc. *T44 Nissan Miler (ex-Prince) - 1968 - Zinc. *T65 Nissan Clipper (ex Prince) - 1968 - Zinc. *Model 60 Nissan Patrol - 1968 - Zinc. *521 Pickup - 1968 - Zinc. *C30 Nissan Laurel - 1968 - Zinc. *A30 Nissan Gloria (ex Prince) - 1968 - Zinc. *SR311 Fairlady - 1968 - Zinc. *130 Nissan Cedric - 1969 - Zinc. *C10 Skyline - 1969 - Zinc. *C20 Vanette - 1970 - Zinc. *GC10 Skyline - 1971 - Zinc. *A-321 Cabstar - 1971 - Zinc. ...so, judging from the above, it seems likely that Nissan's use of Cadmium for protective coatings was discontinued around 1965. I also searched factory parts manuals of Prince Motor Co products (Prince were forcibly merged with Nissan in 1966) but they carry no data on protective coatings for their parts. Your move.
  3. A fool and his money are soon parted.
  4. Probably true. The barn find is in a dry state but that seems like a lot of money for a project car... Yes, based on the BaT price it might be in the ballpark
  5. Hmmm... Seems like it should be worth at least as much as the 10/70 "project" 1971 Datsun 240Z Series I Project that was on BAT a couple weeks ago. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-359/ That one went for over $13K with a non-matching engine and poorly installed replacement floor pans. I'm thinking If that "barn find" thing on ebay has the original engine and floors, it should be worth more than the one that went on BAT?
  6. There's overspray on the data plate! Lots of other issues with the car. The market is pretty weak right now. It's not going to bring 15k much less 50k!

  8. Just now looked at the pictures of this car. Uh, yeah... no. Nope. Much of the sellers description is inaccurate. Garrett

  11. Yeah, there's all kinds of things wrong with the description of that car. At the top of my list (besides the build date) is the claim about original paint. In my humble opinion, we're looking at a 9/70 (probably titled as a 1971) 240Z wearing a poorly done repaint. Probably with 107K miles. Don't get me wrong... It certainly has great potential. But it's not a very early car barn find with original paint and just 7K miles.
  12. And I'm probably going to end up with a generic powder fire extinguisher. Yes, they are messy, but they're so ubiquitous and easy to get. I'm thinking if things get dire enough that I have to use it, the last thing I'm going to be concerned with is the mess.
  13. Still don't have the strut fiasco solved yet, but seat belts arrived!!
  14. Saw this on my news feed 1970 Datsun 240Z | eBay Found it this article Incredible Barn Find: An Early Datsun 240Z With Just 7,000 Miles The listing claims the car was built in '69, but the tag in the door looks like 9/1970 which is more in line with its VIN HLS30-10683. Right off the top the shift knob doesn't appear to be wood as it should be.

  20. What a cool song! I like this better than Howlin' Wolf's OG version. Kind of sad after watching Wolf's documentary. His mother hated him for singing "the devil's music". Beat you @Zed Head hahaha!

  23. Does it not catch onto the threads, one side of the notch isn't turned up a little? I don't understand any other reason for it.
  24. Awesome, thanks! I took a look at my plug, and there's nowhere the notch would catch on. I'm just curious why its even there to begin with at this point haha.
  25. Notch against plug according to these guys.
  26. I've always heard the flattest side goes against the pan. I've never used that specific washer though so maybe someone can add better information.
  27. Cliff, here's another work of art for you. A.I. is a wondrous and amusing thing. 😎 But, not 100% accurate in all cases.
  28. Hi gang, I'm changing the oil and it looks like the crush washer for the oil pan drain plug bolt has a small cutout on one side. Does anyone remember if the side with the small notch cutout go against the back of the plug bolt, or does the side with the cutout touch the oil pan? You can see the cutout on thezstore's page here any ideas? -chase
  29. I was trying to figure out was happening and went to the "home" page, saw this work of art...
  30. Yes, Ive seen the Element ads at Hagerty. I think that could be a good option
  31. I've been considering one of these https://elementfire.com/collections/allproducts?srsltid=AfmBOop1i3bQdDrnL5UNuRlAc9IKXHMnzZQNFkACtpUP9xFyZ-Q8Bepe I'm looking at the larger one, the E100, as it has double the 'run time'.
  32. Yeah, there was something wrong with the forum. Wasn't working properly, but it seems to be back now.
