  1. That's for the optional refrigerator, Pat.
  2. This is what I'm referring to supporting the cam tensioner. The attached file is a couple of pages from How to Rebuild Your Nissan & Datsun OHC Engine. Cam Tensioner.pdf
  3. How did you support the timing chain tensioner? It looks like you supported it because the chain looks like it's in place. There are a few threads on the subject.
  4. Which positions on the connector are empty? Choose one of the wires as #1, and describe the connector from there. It could give more clues.
  5. Well, what did you touch when you pulled the motor? Did you make sure your timing mark was at 0 when the motor was at TDC? That mark can move.
  6. Well from this diagram, I would say it's the seat belt relay.
  7. An aftermarket part may not have the correct wire colors on it. What are the colors from the engine harness side? Put the colors in order and tell us if it's clockwise or counter clockwise as you're looking at the plug side.
  8. That depends upon where you buy the master cylinder from. The ones listed at RockAuto are adjustable for the 280Z.
  9. Which of your cars are you working on?
  10. The online services don't handle the shorter VINs of pre 1981 cars. As for the construction, all S30s are unibody.
  11. It is definitely a 2+2. That's a waste of time if you're thinking of using Carfax or some other similar service. You MIGHT be able to get more info through the DMV, but I don't think they give out that information readily.
  12. Yes, you're on the right track now. It won't be fun or easy, but that's the price of having an AC system designed into the car.
  13. I could see it in the FSM. If you look in the AC section, you'll find the general layout of the system. It's around AC-8 to AC-10 The AC evaporator is what you see in behind the vents. If you follow the defroster vent hose back to the climate control system, you should be able to see the heater core. Edit: I should say heater core location.
  14. By the way, you can get NGKs at a good price through Amazon. I stock up on them, myself.
  15. You trust a 40 year old tire as a spare? Did you find this thread on the spare tire? The wheel is useful, but do yourself a favor and get a new tire put on it for a spare.
  16. The rod length is adjustable. I know I posted details on it somewhere. Besides, adjustment is described in the FSM. If you want to refresh your hydraulics, I suggest replacing the master cylinder, slave cylinder & soft tubing. After removing the old master cylinder, slave cylinder & soft tubing, flush the hard lines with mineral spirits & with compressed air (with a water trap to prevent re-introducing moisture). If your clutch is non-functional with new hydraulics, consult the troubleshooting in the FSM. By the way, the FSM is useful for understanding and repairing the clutch.
  17. Repainted some 260Z emblems I bought on eBay. Not great, but better than when I started.
  18. I was thinking programmable relay, too. I can see it as a way to replace a wiring harness that has been hacked to death by a previous owner.
  19. Capacity issues? Not really, unless you add a bunch of new electronics: stereo, etc. Relay upgrades take care of the fact that the current for the headlights & parking lights goes through the switch contacts. Alternator upgrades typically resolve issues for people with low output at idle or handling a larger stereo, etc. IMHO, it seems that there is a potential for a significant cost for the ISIS system as compared to solutions that have already been engineered.

It could be worse. Hasn't Brian waited well over 2 years for his?
  21. Dang, that's the second time someone has posted that car. My wife won't let me get a 3rd Z...I'll have to see if my brother wants a toy.
  22. To elaborate on what Phil wrote... Does this mean you looked underneath the car thoroughly. Does this mean that the engine bay is clean, or did you take off the valve cover to examine the top end, at least pulled the dipstick to check the oil condition and check timing, compression, sparkplugs, etc? How much money are you willing to put into the car? Do you have a place to work on it? How badly do you want it? Is it worth $600 + repair costs to you?
  23. My guess would be that the pickup doors would be slightly smaller.
  24. Actually, most 260Z parts are interchangeable with the 240Z or 280Z. You just have to use the parts catalogs (insert plug for ClassicZCars parts CD here) & pictures to figure it out. For some parts, you may have to get creative to adapt a part, such as adding a spacer to mount a 240Z hood release cable. Parts availability isn't really a reason to pass on a 260Z as opposed to a 240Z or 280Z.
