  1. Although I would agree that having the cage is necessary for an open track car, and likey for any car of this vintage aggressively driven in a motorsport event, for those auto-xers who want a harness but not the weight penalty of a bar or cage there are options. The 5 point shoulder straps on my autox car mount to a bracket which is part of the rear strut tower brace, and I have seen serveral similar arrangements in autox z's where they either mount to a bracket on the rear tower or the brace its self.. Just chiming in with this as I see this thread containing alot of the kind of good info that will have people going back and referencing it in other threads...
  2. Thats going to be quite a good looking car when you finish it, if I do say so myself! :classic:
  3. It has a certain, I don't know, charm. I think its about the most memorable zx I've ever seen. Very Wu Tang chic. Very funky. I like it. Thumbs up.
  4. No fair Chloe, you can mix and match till you find a set!!
  5. Someone had a set of steel racing wheels with used kuhmos on ebay in Austin Tx a while back. I belive the reserve was not met. Anyone know who was selling them and if they are still availiable?
  6. There is a lot on info in the search on doing this, read it first. If you don't use something like a wedge to hold the timing chain tight against the chain tensioner you'll have to take the whole front of the motor apart.
  7. have you set the valves and checked the timing? do the plugs seem to be getting spark? have you checked the vacum system for leaks? just some things to check
  8. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html this should have most of your answers, didn't know if you'd seen it, figured you hadn't.
  9. I am aware of this, just putting more info out there for any interested parties. I'm thinking of bolting a bookshelf on the rear of the Z myself, I should fit right in with the civic and hyundi "tuner" crowd. Gotta find a way to fit that chrome trash can on my exhaust though...
  10. I have the ST sway bars and ST springs. I believe the struts are kyb's but I'm not sure. I would recommend replacing all of the old bushings w/ poly first, and with springs, none of the major springs (without going to coilovers) are much over 200 lbs so I think the stiffer the better, the ST's are 196/208 I think, much stiffer then the tokicos, and the car is not harsh and if anything could be stiffer for auto-x. It really depends on how much ride quality you are willing to sacrifice, but as it is a sports car I would think that a stiffer more responsive ride is correct for the car, ever drive a vette?
  11. http://zhome.com/History/ZXR.htm "The DATSUN 280 ZXR's were produced by the NISSAN Factory to homologate the large rear wing for racing. This car had to be manufactured in 1000 unit lots to meet the qualification requirements for "Production Class" status. Thus only 1000 were produced. "

  13. Well, I put the other 'virgin' L28 in my car, compression is low but drivable. I was going to pull the head from the bad motor I pulled out of the car and send it to the head shop and have it checked out. I pulled the head and found out why the compression was all messed up on a motor that was recently rebuilt - BAD MATH! the head wad obviously redone - and shaved, and I pulled it off and in the top of what where obviously new pistions, 2 little valve shapped indentions on the top of each!!!!! so much for that. Now I have to pull the head off the motor thats in the car and send it off for work. Probably new seats guides and the whole works. And I have a spare motor with worthless pistons certainly bent valves and lord knows what else. good times.
  14. more 510 info here http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/
  15. how about a dime (510) funky, cheap to work on not too hard to find, and even moderately souped up it wont get you in too much trouble kind of a practical 2002
  16. Go to HybridZ.org, look under "other, 6 cyl" and check the faq's all the info you need should be there on just about any engine swap you can think of into a Z. But check the search feature and faq's first. They aren't too fond of newbees asking questions that have allready been answered. Good Luck.
  17. I'm the one in the middle, This is my other hobby I can't afford - racing sailboats
  18. I have to interject something here, first off I don't like the look of the az Z intake at all, it looks like it is allways going to lean out the front and rear cyls and it could have been designed much better. But I don't think that is the main issue. If his motor is smoking he may have bad rings or a valvetrain issue and he needs to get that straightened out before worrying too much about his carb situation. even with that Az Z manifold he should be doing better then that. He needs to get a leakdown test on that engine lonnnng before putting $1700 worth of tripple anything on it. Just my 2 cents.
  19. My wife is very flattered by the compliments on the pictures! Anyway, we'll take some better pictures, maybe something at the park, after I get the car back together. Bw
  20. What did I do to deserve her? Absolutely nothing! Don't any of you blokes tell her that, I have her fooled so far!!! I think she would love to be in the z hotties gallery, she just wants to take some nicer pictures first. Don't forget that she was the one who gave me the Z as a present. I must've been a saint in a previous life.. Bw
  21. Heres another one. See I told you she was perfect.
  22. The Wifey just got home from work and we didn't have time so these didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, they really don't do justice to how attractive she really is. We'll take some better ones later.
  23. A quick conversation with Rebello Racing or a copy of "how to mod ify your Nissan OHC engine" would be a good place to start.
  24. Just got busy and forgot!! Had the motor out of tha car and parts everywhere, got the motor most of the way back in, hmmm, maybe something by the rear of the car where you can't see the hood is off... I'll try to get something tonight, she's definately up to it. Bw
