Castlemain Rod Shop, Rb Conversion Kits
Do they make a cross member for the gearbox? $500 sounds alot for a sump, a mate of mine did his rb convert all himself. Cut the sump, reversed it and welded it back up couldn't tell you if windage etc was a concern, but he was privy to some high tech tools at his job.

Rally 240z vs 1600 (510)
So what size motor is allowed in historics and something like the Robson cup, I saw Mike Reeves son in a 240z with a FI L28 at a autocross and he was only 3 sec off the 4wd buggies, this is whats got me thinking a change to Zed

Rally 240z vs 1600 (510)
Apparantly I've got too much time on my hands and would like to have a go at building a rally car. In my yard I have a straight 240z shell and a straight 1600 shell, I know the virtues of the 1600 but haven't had the 240 full squirt on the dirt (motor out). So my question is what makes the more competitive rally car in each of their own classes. thanks Steve

240z weight
Does anybody know the weight distribution of a 240z with a L24???? I'm wondering whether the battery was remounted in the rear on the 240z rally cars steve

Philosophical discusion on build dates
I owned #98 and always assumed it to be a S1 1969 model. British racing green, black interior, hatch vents and hand throttle etc. But what made me think its a 69 was the fact it had no ADR compliance plate. Correct me if I'm wrong but Australian Design Rules didn't come into being until 1970, just as the fitment of rear seat belts is not manditory for cars built before that date. My first car was a hotted up '64 EH Holden and it didn't have a ADR plate just the manufactures build plate. Steve

Benefits of Clear Coating?
Every time I paint a car I use clear top coats. What colour are you using? I do belive it can act as a sunscreen on colours like red which oxides quicker than other colours, but the biggest advantage is the instant gloss you get straight off the gun. To do a proper job you need at least 5 coats which means you need 4 lt of clear. I use Wattyl paints Steve

Att: Victorian Z Owners
I've done a few autox's against this car. It's the car that the whole field stops and takes notice of. 260Z 2+2 with a 6.6 chevy V8, 4wd and just to be different it's auto. Awesome sight and sound thundering through the bush and just about always the quickest car on the day, yet at a rumoured $50,000au you would wanna be! Steve

Auto -> Manual, Electrics Query
I know in a zed there are 4 wires with bullit connectors running to the auto, you simply reconnect them male to male and female to female. Perhaps without the auto now the starter itsnt earthing properly, you may need to run another earth leed from strut top to engine steve

Zmefly
I've often thought my 300 tt really flies, well some guy in Melbourne last night proved me right! If your in Oz checkout the news tonight, a black 300zx travelling at what police estimate at over 200 kph launched its self off a fence, through the wall of a 8m high industrial shed and landed some 80m from its take off point! When police arrived they found the driver walking around the factory in the dark trying to find the exit. :classic:

My Series 1 back home
Very neat! I owned # 98, originally BR Green with black trim. Did your car have the bullit style mirror on both sides? Did any of the other early cars have these mirrors? Steve

Best car or car chase
Mad Max does it for me, not just because I'm a rev head but its a suspence/thriller in my book, thoses bikies on their Z 9 Kawakas scared me shitless of motorcyclists or MC gangs when I was a kid. Maybe Toecutter has an opinion on this movie? :devious: Couldn't tell how you many times I've watched it but I'll retire the cassette if its out on dvd? Heres some more I've seen Stone Aust '73 undercover cop joins MC gang, racing around sydney on more Kawaka 900's Running on empty Aust '83 James Dean dude in a 57 Chevy with a chip on his shoulder The Vanishing Point USA '70 This was a good movie -Car thief drives a hot car (a Dodge Challenger I think) across US racing police and everyone else on the road. I wish more films would have a ending like this one. Two lane blacktop USA '71 Finally found this on payTV last week , it maybe the passage of time but this film was a bit lameo -two hoons aimlessly drive across US in a 55 Chevy, starred the singers brian wilson and a angry young james taylor with a full head of hair. The directors must have known it was going to suck as they didn't bother to give the characters names just 'the driver' 'the mechanic' .......James because of your music you are forgiven. Steve

Skyline Webers
Thanks Alan thats the manifold, it came with linkages and the very same red air box (just none of the important bits in the middle!) Picked it up today at a swap meet, thinking along the same lines as yourself if it didn't fit I could sell it again and perhaps keep the linkages. These Skylines would have been raped and pilaged long ago for their Webers, its hard enough to find a 240z airbox. cheers Steve
