  1. I think you're right
  2. I spent much more than $2,900 on each of my cars a long time ago. I suggest you scoop that car up. Every dime you put into getting that car running will translate to value, I'm certain. That car (reasonably rust free) is worth much more than $2,900 - running. Much more. Realizing it has clutch and brake problems; I don't see why you can't at least turn the engine over without a lot of hassle. You may be in for a big ordeal if you really want to start it. Pull the spark plugs out and listen to it spin - at least. Unless you find something horribly wrong - and I'll bet you don't - snap that baby up!
  3. That is "Tank Assembly - Reservoir" 21510-E4201. My notes say that you may find it as E6300, but I don't remember what that was all about. The bracket is 21515-E4200 and E4201. The parts book I have shows it specifically for the S20 engine.
  4. Hey 240dkw! Great picture of your "early" carburetors. I would bet that your air filter housing did not have any decals like mine. Here are pictures of the non-emission exhaust manifold.
  5. Thanks for the video links. Very well done videos. I wasn't at the convention and have to say that I was skeptical when I first saw the photographs. Even called up a friend at the convention to ask what the hell. The car resembles the original Matsuo sketches I have, but not the same. "Making the Z Sport Wagon" really answers my questions and I can see how much influence - genuine influence - the design has from Matsuo san. My hat is off to the project team for taking on a very unique project...and pulling it off!
  6. The car was custom built by JDM Car Parts www.jdm-car-parts.com from a 2+2 chassis as I understand. Great pictures, Carl. I think this is the original Matsuo sketch, isn't it?
  7. Les is at the ZCCA convention in San Diego.
  8. Alan, John Morton won the SCCA C Production national championship on Sunday, November 29, 1970. I don't have any record of wins for the BRE car (s) or Bob Sharp's efforts prior to that date however this would be the significant race / date to compare. I think you will find that there was far more S30 racing activity (and success?) in Japan by that late date in November 1970. Marty, I also want to comment about the reference you made to Paul Newman, in the context of the early racing S30s and their drivers. Paul Newman won the C Production national championship in 1979 - in a 280ZX. C Production championships won in S30 machines belong to John Morton, Bob Sharp, Walt Mass, Elliot Forbes-Robinson, Logan Blackburn and Frank Leary.
  9. Hey Alan great photo! You never cease to amaze me. Is that the roll hoop I see? If so, does that resemble the layout for the Nissan competition hoop?
  10. It's also listed on Ebay Datsun Z Series Historical Race Car | eBay I saw this car at the Mitty several years ago. Personally, I think the Macau story is more hype than fact, but it very well could have Japanese racing history / provenance; for what ever that's worth. It's a very nice clean car.

  12. I don't understand what you are talking about.
  13. I guess you have forgotten or don't know about the Scarab. The earliest of V8 transplants. Today, Scarabs are worth very big bucks - in line with the finest of restored / original early cars. I don't think much of a V8 transplant, especially the more contemporary versions. Do an archive search for discussions about Scarabs.
  14. Over the top cool! You bet it would make me smile, Kats! Sure, it will receive FM in America.
  15. I'll grant you that the panel is missing but the hole is clearly there. So is the rear marker light. Guys! That's a Toyota. Nice fender flares. Just like a Cheetah girl though, driven hard, put to bed wet...
  16. Here's the real difference between an E-Type and a Z-Type
  17. No doubt it's an early car, but why not just list the VIN number? If the seat covers are just on to protect the seats, wouldn't you think they would be taken off for the sale photos? The rust bubble in the fender is really a hole. The luggage straps are missing and the rear interior valance has the access panels to the tail lights which is not early. It looks like it could be a nice restoration candidate but I suspect the price typo is just a reflection of the rest of the ad including the pictures. You'd have to go look at it and bargain in cash. It looks like it's worth more than $1200 but not $12,000.
  18. I saw the conversation on the Facebook page. The question was basically answered when Carl Beck replied that the listing on his web site was accurate and up to date. the Z Car Home Page - Z Car Registry - Vintage Z. It probably is; as Carl notes, we really haven't seen much trading of the Vintage Z's in the last few years. I read some more of Carl's comments / conjecture of what the value of these vehicles might be today. I would tend / hope to agree. If you search the archives here, you'll find a lot of information about the restoration program including the comments that Nissan / Datsun was not the first or only car manufacturer to sell refurbished / restored vehicles. I will argue, though, that Nissan's approach was unique. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/misc-s30/15911-z-restoration-progam.html

No, sorry, I'm not going to make it - again. Sounds like you are going to have a great convention though. The left-coast conventions are great fun.

I'm going to miss you, Kats! Oh frustration! I think you should enter your PS30 in the stock class and expect to win a gold medallion. The judges can't take any points off for non-stock items because they have never seen a PS30 and don't have clue what is stock original and what is not!

  24. Zombii, I have Zedd findings pans and frame rails and am very satisfied with them. At the time I did the work, they were the only alternative; so I don't have any experience with others. I didn't have to replace the seat mounts as mine were still in good shape. Couple of comments about your question... Replacing floor pans is a big project and if you are grousing around about the price of parts you really ought to rethink your expectations. There's no cheap or cheaper fix for this issue. And I agree completely with your fabricator friend. Do it right. You'll get the most satisfaction from the result. The Zedd findings pans have quite a bit of extra metal which should address your tunnel rust issues. Any pan you buy is going to have some trimming and fitting required before it is welded into place. Also, there is no "replacement" pan as the original floors and tunnel were all one piece. The seat mounts are important for safety reasons. New mounts from Bad Dog are very nice, not an exact match to original, but easy to work with and well worth the price. The location of the transmission mount brackets is important for drive train alignment. Either bolt the transmission carrier in place when you fabricate and / or do one floor at a time. Same with the seat brackets. Be careful to accurately locate them from your original before you start cutting everything apart. Good luck and may the welding torch grace your Z with good, stiff pans!
  25. Saw the write-up on Sports Car Digest. Congrats, Bob!
