  1. Asta, you might not even need eBay once you're ready to sell if your asking price is still $4100. Though I'm not in the market, I've been following your posts about the car and I doubt you'll have any problem selling at that price.
  2. I always replace the bearings when I get a used tranny. That minimizes the play in the input shaft. You say "barely perceptable" which sounds like it would be acceptable but I always replace the bearings, syncro rings and seals just because I don't want to have to go back in there later. And as far as 'no fluid in the tranny' it was probably just low. Was it noisy? The lower the fluid, the noisier they will be. Often just filling them up willl cure that as long as they haven't been run too long in that condition.
  3. Can't run the advance with Webers. Even on my L320 which has a single 40DCOE (w/26mm chokes) I couldn't get it to work. I ended up going with a solid breaker plate and relying on the mechanical advance. On a little 85-90ish horsepower push rod 4 cyl that's okay but I doubt if that would be satisfactory on a L6 w/triples. What would happen if you put a 280Z vacuum delay valve inline between the manifold and the distributor? That would cut the vacuum but I don't know by how much.

Well it's not in California or at least that VIN has no smog check record here.
  5. (LHD)=Left Hand Drive.

Possibly a piston in one of the carbs is stuck. That happened to me once in a Datsun 1600 Roadster I once owned.
  7. I'm well aware of who makes these vehicles as I have been around them longer than you've been alive. I was simply stating that I've never seen a left hand drive Skyline of any kind in the United States. Many right hand drive Skylines etc. have been imported here by those who wanted them. My question was which countries had the LHD versions imported to them by Nissan (Datsun).
  8. I have never seen a LHD, 1973 to 1981, Skyline of any kind for sale in the United States. What countries did get the LHD models?
  9. The show will air again at 7:30am this morning (Oct. 30) and on Nov. 4 at 5:30am. That's PST.
  10. I recorded just the segment that contains Ron's interview and car. It's about 1:40 in length. Now if I just knew how to convert it to something that can be posted here. I'll work on it in the morning if no one beats me to it.
  11. Though my Z wears the badge, I've never done it in the Z. I earned it in the back of a 1981 200SX hatchback. But that was years ago. Actually wasn't too bad since the rear seat folds down but if anyone would have walked by that big hatch window they would have gotten an eyeful!
  12. We talked about that one a couple of days ago: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28430
  13. If you put the L26 crank, rods, and pistons in an L24 block, all you have is an L26.(basically)
  14. I've done several at home. All I ever use is 4 tall jack stands and a transmission saddle on my floor jack.
  15. Not so, look at my signature pic, optional 260-280 alloys. He must mean the side molding, dealer installed option on any car. Too many "upgrades" on this car for the 'Black Pearl' thing to mean anything especially if it needs paint. And where's the passenger mirror, the hood ornament? I don't think a 'collecter' as he puts it, wouldn't be interested in this car.
  16. One other point. If your seller who has 'built 5 Z's himself' knew what he was talking about then the guages would all work and you wouldn't be having this problem. Besides you stated earlier that 'you talked to a Z specialist here in TN and he says that the 83 and 76 L28s were vastly different as far as fuel injection, alternator, and mechanics is concerned, but he'd have to see the car to know what needed to be done.' Now, there's someone who seems to have a grasp on things.
  17. An 83 housing is different from a 76 housing as are the sensors as are the way the guages are actuated. If you get a chance to compare them, do so and you'll see what I mean. Different items, different part numbers, etc.
  18. You'll likely need to use the 75-78 thermostat housig as well as the 75-78 sensors that go with it as well as the oil pressure sender. The 83 thermostat housing is different and I don't think the earlier sensors, i.e. thermotime switch, thermal transmitter, and water temp sensor are the same. Didn't the 83 have digital guages?
  19. Very true. I just answered without going back to see who started the thread.:stupid:
  20. I'm not sure I'd plug the EGR valve on an EFI car. When mine didn't work, the gas mileage suffered until I replaced it.
  21. West Covina to Upland is about 15-16 miles and West Covina to Glendale is about 25.
  22. Hey Jared. Good to see you back. Now, that's my kind of vacation! I'm retired but I still work a little 3 day a week job at Ace Hardware just to keep busy. It still gives me time to sleep in and work on the cars. We've been basically living in a cloud of smoke for the past week since we live on the other side of the mountains from Arrowhead etc. There was a smaller one just two miles from us but they put it out quickly. Hopefully the fires will be under control soon.
  23. It a 21 day auction so we already have begun a discussion on that car about a week and a half ago: http://tinyurl.com/23uv25
  24. Nah, 300 max. You'd be doing him a favor hauling those away.
  25. I wouldn't pay $500 for the entire lot. Unless you could pick them apart on the spot and leave what you don't want, the logistics and cost of moving 4 non-op vehicles makes me think the seller need to set his sights considerable lower.
