General question about exhaust
There is a rather large heat shield on the California cars right above the catalytic converter basically right under the drivers seat. If that's missing, the floor and bottom of the seat would definately get hot. I don't know if your car is a former Cali car but if it is it would also have a warning light to the left of the map light that says "FLOOR TEMP". But even the non Cal cars have a smaller heat shield in that area. It almost sounds like you have a California car with the shield missing form the level of heat you describe. If that's the case I'd try to find the shield rather than insulating the car on the inside.

I vaguely remember the old park, Exhibition Stadium. Never been there but I'm kind of a baseball nut. Speaking of getting hammered, I'm an Angel fan....enough said!

Fuel Pressure and Running Lean Problems - 78 280Z
The fuel pressure shoud be roughly 37 (36.3 according to the FSM) at idle. And it should pretty much stay there during all stages of operation. The 'rising rate' thing didn't start until 79 w/the ZX and 810. From what you say your fuel pressure regulator is fine. Changing the ECU won't correct a fuel pressure problem. A bad fuel damper, clogged injectors, clogged fuel lines, any kind of blockage in the fuel sytem can cause problems with the fuel pressure. From the 1978 FSM:

ouch, i'm overheatin bad
I always purge an AC system with my recovery machine before I open any of the connections. Without guages, it's really hard to tell if the system still has traces of freon in it. It is possible for the fan to be low on oil which I guess in a way you could call that the opposite of being seized.

Classic Z Car Club licence plate frames?
I always thought the "Driven" or "We Are Driven" was more of a 'Datsun' thing and "Enjoy The Ride" was more of a Nissan thing.

As far as rebuilding the fan clutch, take a look at this article: http://tinyurl.com/28vzv7 But instead of the oil mentioned in the article, I use Kyosho #5000 silicone oil rather than the Toyota silicone oil recommemded in the link. It's available at any hobby store that deals with RC cars, comes in 40ml bottles instead of 18ml, costs less and works just as well.

The AC condensor won't stop your car from cooling properly. In fact, the larger it is, the more efficient the AC will be. The one in my Z might even be larger than the one you describe and I don't have any cooling issues.

Classic Z Car Club licence plate frames?
Dave, I don't take your comments as rude and there's nothing wrong with being straigtforward. What you said is true. But that was six years ago and after the car was recovered, thanks to my insurance company, it turned out better than it was before the theft. New console, stereo, etc. And a professionally installed alarm system.

280zx 5sp in a 73 240?
I was wondering if he used the ZX shifter. It'll hit the console.

I don't know about that one. I had my Z stolen once.

My Beloved 78
What didn't work out about the Le Bra? I've had one on mine for quite some time now. I like the fact that it two piece allowing the hood to be opened easily. That's why I chose it over the MSA bra.

Can a head gasket be reused?
I know I wouldn't be using that HG on the final assembly after crushing it three times. Even though others might have done it before without problems, you are expressing concern that would most likely remain in the back of you mind everytime you drove the car. Daniel's suggestion is the route I'd take. Head gaskets are cheap compared to potentially blowing one.

280z going for over 6,000 on ebay ...
What do you guys think of this one? I know this statement will generate some disagreement but I've yet to see a 240Z worth this asking price. I don't care who built it or how much was put into it, it just ain't worth that kind of money. At least, not to me. http://tinyurl.com/yusb7k

I'll have to respectfully bow out. There are places out of state that are closer. Redding is about 600 miles north of me.

It went for $6500. The MSRP in 1977 was $7429.

1971 240Z history Question for anyone who knows
I believe I've also seen the picture he's referring to or one like it. It isn't a photo depicting mods that could have been made "after all these years". It's a pre-production photo.

What does the Dove Tail do for the doors?
I have a 78 and there's no dovetail. In fact, my latches don't look anything like that. Must be on the 75-76(?)

Datsun 240RS origins and history
Hopefully, the poster isn't attempting to claim credit for that. It's pretty much verbatim from the "Team Nissan Europe and the Nissan 240RS" article on that site which I read back in 2004 when this thread was current. It's still an interesting read nearly three years later, however.

Pretty clean and original looking with a few dealer add on type items. Even has what appears to be a period correct aftermarket stereo maybe even an 8track tape. But it's an Automatic. And the seller say it has 'leather interior'.
