Thank you daddz and Alan. Yes this color finish is not original.Moroe- san has a strong polcy for this black paint. It is dualable so much he said. And plated engine mounts, not only these Moroe-san love to aplpy plating because it is dualable too.Good for preventing rust. I wish this water side hose become braided,Moroe-san has huse collection of early parts so I think he does. Alan,is your mail adress good ? I wanted to send P.M. for you about Z and lots of things. kats

Hello Alan, Thank you for your input. That is what I want.I too understand it is not safe to say "this is 100% sure" according old color picture.I love this grey very much though. This Z432 has S20-000884!! Very near from your 432R's engine.Yes this car registered Jan 1970,I found tach and speed meter and lots of parts dated 44(1969)and some 45(1970). The dash is stamped 26 DEC 1969,after the X'mas day is not it? This car is PS30-00088 and S20-000884.Lots of "8" I love it. In japan,8 means good thing.I can not exprain it in english for now.Could you help me Alan. kats

Hello Chris and dadds, This valve cover's color is correct for 1970 S20 engine.I can see this color in the some magazines issued jan or feb 1970. I was told this color "greenish" is the second , the earliest S20 is "blackish". I think this is almost right. And there is a factory RED one this is the third and final,I do not know for this.I am not for sure. Alan can give an answer for us !! I am doing post a new thread for HLS30 and PS30/comparison between these early 1970 cars. kats

Early Shift Boots
Hi geezer,Chris,Dan and friends, Let me tell you quickly,I bought mine some 4 or 5 years ago from the Z shop in japan.I bought it from tha shop but it came from Nissan as a genuine factory replacement. So,it is different from 1970 original vinyl. It is quite thick and stiff.I say it is a factory OEM part but it is not the same from 1970's.I think the one in the picture of the Z432 is a just same replacement boot.An owner must replace within some 5 years,I can not say 100% for sure anyway.Like Chris said, they are just different in style. I called the shop today, they said they are NLA.I regret I did not buy two or three. kats

Early Shift Boots
Hello, I agree with Arne, the original is thin vinyl.Seems aging makes it thiner and thiner. My 240Z has got the one from the shop in JAPAN. Do you think it is original or not.I post a picture of Z432's too. kats

what is the TRUE definition of "Series 1"
Hello, I give my big support to Alan(HS30-H),his post told me an important point of view. My 03/1970 240Z is "Series 1" according to the definition common in the U.S. I think it is a good idea to divide 1,2,3, it makes me think simple. After I learned this, it is useful when I browse Ebay to find parts for my 240Z. But I should know this term "Series 1,2,3,"is not oriented from NISSAN Official.Nail down the definition seems difficult,if I manage to draw a border line,it is only for my own.Or for the people who use this. The term is not oriented from NISSAN ,so there is no NISSAN official definition which someone can make. Each man can have each definition for the term,it is fun to discuss. But I need to make it clear that it is not official term if I write an article for a car magazine. At least someone who broadcasts his article on the web/book(including me) especially journalists should do pay attention for this.I think Alan told me this in his posts. My interests is going to earlier Z than mine always, honestly I can not be relax only to see "Series 1" in Ebay. Started from 10/69,there must be parts amendments almost every month or every a couple of month.I remember someone here said, "(worker in assembly line said) what changes do we have today?" I like that. And it is almost true I think.Personaly I do not look into 240Z as 1,2,3. I look into like this, is this car 10/69 or 11/69 or 12/69? etc. By the way,in Japan we do not say Series 1,2,3,.We just do not have.We refer "44 (yon-yon, 1969)" " 45( yon-go, 1970)" like that. Alan, let me introduce this,I really like your word in PM for me,I apologise this prior to get permission. "... This is the FAMILY that we should look at. There are brothers and sisters in this family, but there is no 'King' that is superior to the others. That is what I believe..." I started to think my 240Z based on this point of view. Thank you, kats

Valve cover differences
Hi Alan, great informations, they are very interesting. I just want to tell everybody here,Alan's explanation is perfect.I always get frustrated with my poor english. What a good thing is Alan can explain perfectly which I want to say in english. His understanding of Japanese Z community and Japanese books and more are just like ordinary Japanese people, like me and my friends. And I must say this,I and my all Japanese Z friends are so impressed with Alan's amazing knowledge about hole Z, not only Z, skyline and Prince etc... I have never seen such a amazing knowledge in Japanese Z enthusiast. Thank you, kats P.S.Alan,I tried to send PM but it was rejected.Did you get my PM in your another adress?

My clollection
I have got this in Japan. I see this sometimes in Japanese auction but I have never seen in Ebay,I do not know why. In this catalog,240Zs are 1970 model. But not so early, badges are white inlet Z. I think this catalog is for LHD 240Z,not specified for the U.S. General LHD catalog? Note the engine bay picture, this engine must be early.Different steel fuel pipes and rubber hoses to the carbs, and surprising blue aircleaner. The body seems to me red,I believe this car is a same car which is used as a examnple in the first service manual and a broughchure featuring a red non-badged car. kats

Datsun 240Z S30 RH Parts Catalogue
Thank you everyone,I made a good purchase. Alan gave me a homework,I am willing to learn everything related S30. The RHD manual arrived and I am very happy it is a very good condition. This is a FIRST OVERALL RIVISED edition, and it says 4th rivision from the bigining dated DEC 1970.I think the blue huge binder must be made in Nov 1969 as a first edition, other contents are all rivised DEC 1970 including a rivision info card which is in a side plastic pocket.A page for interior color trim instruction is dated Dec 1969,this proves the manual is revised collectly as instructed, this page is an only one should be remained from the begining. I have a LHD Nov 1969 issued manual,it has got 1st and 2nd rivision with an original master edition. What is an amazing thing is they all exist no missing page,I mean there are Nov 1969 originals and Mar 1970 1st rivision and June 1970 2nd rivision. It is a fun to see the differences between them. My question of steering lock has just got an answer! The RHD early 240Z has a WASO key and steering lock is different from the early JDM and LHD.I was expecting it and I see the part number for it. It syas three color of trims black and tan and blue, but I have never seen blue trims in RHD 240Z.Has anyone seen it? kats

Datsun 240Z S30 RH Parts Catalogue
Hello everyone, I am kats and I am datsunz903 in Ebay. Of cource I want to buy items as inexpensive as I can,$560 is very very expensive and I am afraid my wife will know it soon and she will get angly with it.But I do not normaly have enough time to enjoy the bidding in front of a computer.I have to bid in early stage and just see how the auction goes. Every time I find a nice item which I am looking for a long time,I think again and again,is it an once in a life time item?If I think so,then put my maximam amount which I am willing to pay.I know my maximam is crazy, but I want to get it. This parts catalog is not a frequent item on Ebay. That is why I put that amount.I I have a same size same condition U.S. & CANADA Nov.1969 version like Mike B and Chris mentioned.I can not say how much I paid for it(if I tell you, you will get heart attack) I paid XXX times more of this RHD version.Yes I am crazy, but you know how much I was excited when I happned to see it and I managed to buy it from previous owner.I am still very very happy to have it,and I feel I was right to pay big money because I have never had a chance to buy this catalog and like this condition once again past 6 years.I made a good decision to pay huge money to get it.It is just a book, but for me,it is more than a book. I need to know about RHD 240Z.It is nessesaly to know my U.S. 240Z more and more. Also about Fairlady-Z,I bought a parts catalog of Fairlady-Z.Some times I can find a fact of U.S. 240Z in the Fiarlady-Z 's parts catalog.I am assuming same thing in the RHD 240Z parts catalog. Attached photos are my collection. The small white one is a unique tiny Fiarlady-Z's catalog. For JDM,there are some kinds of size for the parts catalog.A big one and this small one. Both are the same contents, small one has exactly same pictures and parts number listings. For example,we(U.S. 240Z) can not buy sepalately 1969-70 tailgate air vent duct fittings. But look into Fairlady-Z catalog, there are individual parts number for the duct fittings. For some parts, this theory is vise versa. Thank you, kats

Early 240Z Rearview Mirror - Is this correct?
Hello, I visited an old car shop is selling Bellett parts,I found 2 mirrors.I noticed they are interchangeable to Z,the bracket is slightly different.I can easily apply them to Z.Just screw off from the bracket then apply Z's bracket. Bellett mirror is made by same manufacture in Japan.I guess these 2 red dot mirrors were applied same time range like from late 1960's to early 1970's. kats

Original interiors of series 1 cars
Thank you Arne, 04/71 will be the key, seems to me that date will be the last for "long leg"? More details about the trim! Chris, great found! About a red dot,I found another Japanese car "ISUZU Bellett" used red dot mirror.I saw 3 Bellett have red dot mirror today but the bracket is completely different.Does the car exist in the U.S. ? kats

Original interiors of series 1 cars
Hello, Chris,I did not know the pattern of strut trim.I will check my 03/70 blue interior.Mine is not replaced, original trim since roll out from the factory.Nowadays it starts crack itself little bit. Today I would like to discuss about inside mirror,I think there are three stage. Stage 1/ with a red dot for day driving and a beautiful "tapered long leg" for the bracket. And you can see "EVER WING" on the face. However, this mirror was manufactured by "IKI" (you can see this inside of hub caps and some other parts) we can veryfy this in the japanese service builltein. Just as a refference, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8383&highlight=red+dot+mirror Stage 2/ with a sun and a star simbol for day and night, also a beautiful "tapered long leg"And also you can see "EVER WING" on the face. AS I said before,Mar/1970 owners manual instructed turn a sun mark for day driving, according to this manual,my 03/70 car will have Stage 2 mirror. But as usual, there must be time difference. My car could have a red dot? If we can gather data as much as we can,we will reach the answer soon. Stage 3/ with a sun and a star simbol and a "very short leg" for the bracket which we now can buy new from Nissan and many surpliers. You can see "IKI" on the face. So,some one said "red dot club" I like that, red dot club will be only for a 1969 build car. But how about "tapered long leg club",I think that club will be for 1970 to early 1971 car. I have seen a mid 1971 car(with a choke knob and a blank plate for a throttle knob/but non-airvent grilles for a rear hatch) has "tapered long leg" I do not know when "very short leg" mirror came out.I have only confirmed NOV 1971 240Z instaled "very short leg" from the factory press photo. Thank you, kats P.S. Courtesy Mr.moby**** for the left photo/Mr.Watanabe for the middle photo. The right one is mine.
