  1. I learned a trick from my BMW days, I put a new slave cylinder on about every other year. Get a big syringe from a Veterinarian and put a long tube on there. Stick it down the clutch reservoir and suck all the bubbles out. Probably won't fix your problem but I like to try anyways. Cliff
  2. Maybe they'll mate and bring a good running Z into the world.
  3. Couldn't speak from the excitement of meeting Mario? Or too much Newman's Own Red Wine Vinegar?
  4. Hard to beat this one though at $13, http://www.amazon.com/Alltrade-648831-Nissan-Timing-Holding/dp/B0002Q8TV4 I used a long screwdriver handle the first time I took on off, damn near couldn't get it out. Bought one of these, slick as butter going in and coming back out.
  5. Are you going to use the oil slinger on your's? I lost mine when I was rebuilding my 2.8 and forgot all about it until it was too late, front cover was sealed up tight. I can't decide whether or not to use one this time. Thanks for an opinion, I tend to worry too much over little stuff like that. Cliff
  6. I've been looking around and none of the kits show one, but the "how to rebuild" says it plain as day. I missed that on the last motor. I think I'll use a light film of this;
  7. I've taken 4 stock motors apart in the past few years and don't remember any of them having one.
  8. That would make passing a lot safer.
  9. Maybe some dog treed this one?
  10. I used to disagree with deer hunters, it was like shooting a dog sniffing a turd. A guy I rode motorcycles with a couple of times had a deer jump out on him and now they're both dead. I'd love to see more "cougars" around my house.
  11. My Top Line kit doesn't have one at all. Your better off than me.
  12. I got to thinking about some left over muratic acid I had from the gas tank. Worked really good but I'm scared of that stuff so I went slow with a toothbrush dipped in acid. Wire wheeling is almost done, compressor was hot. I'm cooling down too with some cold beverages now. I'm gonna prime and topcoat with duplicolor engine paint. I'm thinking one good coat then assemble the bottom. Spray it again, put the brass plugs in and move on.
  13. He has a jet/steam cabinet but said it wouldn't look as good as bead blasting. Something about it being so damn old. 10 year old heads come out looking like new, according to him, as it cuts all the grease and grime. The age of an E31 is a different story.
  14. 240s are tougher to rebuild the right way. This block has 43 years of crud behind the expansion plugs between 6 & 5 and 5 & 4 on the right side. I assume from tilting back and to the right all these years. I'll spend a day poking it loose and wire wheeling the block, maybe I'll shoot 1 coat of paint on tonight. This is going to take some time which I have plenty of. And to think I was originally planning to drive it to Memphus. You can't even see the stuff at #6, it's full all the way across. Here's the next one. Here's the front of the block. Here's the hone job, it looks good to me.
  15. I've got my block and am ready for assembly. Should I put the crank and pistons in before paint or after? I use Permatex assembly lube and I'm scared I'll get it onto the new paint. I was thinking install the crank and pistons, paint the block then put the expansion plugs in. I could put 1 coat on then assemble, shoot it again? Advise me, please! Cliff
  16. I would sale or trade one to fix the other. Being sorta close to Road Atlanta, there's plenty of Z people up in that area that would buy the 240 or maybe the 280. The e-bay 280 came from Miami. Was it driven or transported? When did it last run right? She could have the carbs rebuilt and put on the 280, that's what most people did when the EFI started causing problems in the mid eighties according to my import mechanic friend.
  17. I used the cam as a fulcrum point to push the retainer down with a big ol screwdriver. Handle was on the passenger's side, IIRC.
  18. So he may need a new hub.
  19. You can ride that rainbow unicorn to http://thepumpingstationmemphis.com/
  20. Are bearing seats the same as the bearing race?
  21. Friday the 17th, around 11am Central for me. Friday nights car show on Beal St. is my "meet and greet". Cliff
  22. Maybe someone could start a meeting up thread when they first get there? If we all check the forum we'd know when and where to meet up. I typed too slow.
  23. Here's a picture of the water kock that gets stiff and makes the cables hard to slide. I bought one from Nissan for $48 for my 240, it's different though for your car so this part number won't help but it may be close enough to find the right one for the 280, #27116-E4400 http://www.zcar.com/forum/10-70-83-tech-discussion-forum/122943-78-280z-heater-valve-photo.html Here's the vacuum diagram, post #1 http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/27887-ac-heater-vacuum-control-valve/
