Door Window removal
There's some talk in this thread of sockets and u-joints and not removing the glass. I'm going to have to study this more as I'm about to try and get mine back to normal. I've read it's almost impossible to get the mirror in with the housing still mounted onto the door.

Looking for truck tailgate!
I'd go to the closest junkyard if I needed one, no shipping and they are easy to get off most trucks.

What Rubber Supplier
I've read zcardepot.com has the closest complete set but you need @Zup braided trophy winning advice. Arne has an old thread on this if you google it. Best of luck!

Yes! Your right on the money for for all practical purposes. I apologize for muddying the waters but I was rebuilding mine and have more time to do silly "crap", it wouldn't let me use s h i t. Actually you want that exact spot where the piston "floats". Neither raising or falling.

280z dies randomly while driving..
I remember that car. It's a 260 with a 280ZX motor, IIRC.

Door Window removal
Do you have to remove the glass for mirror replacement on a 240? Thanks. Cliff

Demand for the 280z on the rise?
Mine is "cocooned" in the farthest side of my garage. I'm waiting as long as I can before selling. Paid $1,400 in 2010 for a rust free, original paint and interior. I spent another $500 or so rebuilding the motor. Ended up just wetting my beak for the 240s.

I didn't have a manometer. Once I figured out the front two lobes were exactly the same distance at TDC it was easy. Took 5 minutes. I was building a 2.4 and wanted, and got, it perfect. Two sets of Vise-Grips to lock the cam in place then I installed the timing kit and front cover. Easy peasy for me, my method. Finding TDC A manometer can be used to find TDC. A manometer is simply a U shaped tube with a water or oil "indicator" in it. Air pressure or suction at one end of the U causes the indicator to move. For our Z application, a drilled out spark plug, 3' length of plastic tube, and a few ml of coloured water is all that is needed. Note that a one thousandth inch change in the piston is nearly 1/2 and inch of water change.

I did a weird way but it worked. The front two cam lobes towards the front will look like rabbits ears. I used a feeler gauge to get the lash equal on those two rockers. Atlantic tech tips suggest a nano something or the other but I found my way easier. If you google "finding tdc classiczcars.com" there will be tons of info. The chop stick or straw that i used will get you close but this needs to be dead on in my opinion. Good luck!

Relay Testing and Fuel pump help
I agree. Great respect for Steve and his detailed replies. He's helped me many times and I too think this would be a great document to save.

Have you removed the distributor cap and looked for anything loose maybe? Rotor button is on good and tight? Just spitballing...

Ball joint & strut not lining up
I used a small bottle jack too. You don't want it hanging down at a bad angle. A little pressure from underneath to even things up worked for me. If I'm thinking along with you?

Internal rivets
That was funny in my head a minute ago but not so much now. I apologize Dennis. It's been raining all day here and I'm a little stir crazy from being inside. Sorry! Harbor Freight is everywhere thank goodness.

Internal rivets
Harbor Freight in Palm Springs? Probably one in Mar-a Lago for the "Beast" when it needs some Schina valve caps.

Which engine for a 77’ 280z
If you get that p79 and shave it 30 thousandths then use the valves out of your n47 you would have a high lift cam ready head. Datdungarage.com tells about it but member extraordinare Diseazed does it to his 5 240s with great results. He runs SUs carbs though. Efi doesn't do too well with cut cams I've always read. http://datsunzgarage.us/p79/ Okay, once again my brain pooted. 80 thousandths off the bottom. Cliff

Let's show vintage racing pictures. I'll start.
I think that's a baja race car that was a winner and popular. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Which engine for a 77’ 280z
I found the "modify" book to have the same stuff on the forum and internet. It's only $20 though but I've hardly used mine. It's a little too much for my taste, stock build with a little tweaking. You can find that on the www. The charts with lengths and weights are out there on the inter web. I could mail you mine but that would be about the same price as amazon.com. I bought all 3 when I was head over heels on these cars. Restoring, rebuilding and modifying. Tom monroe's has greasy pages. The other two are like new. My $.02 but like I said it's only $20. More to read on layovers. ?
