Turbo to none Turbo??
Hi Sammy1970, First of all welcome. I think you will always find someone who can at least offer an opinion, some who can give you seriously good advice on lots of subjects. With turbo stuff thier are two or three absolute top notch forum members. For your predicament, what is the package you have in place. Can you post pics. Are you running aftermarket or factory gear. would you be better off to grab an as is motor to get you running until you work out a plan of repair or build. I think these are a few things that you would need to tell before anyone can sujest a fix. Cheers Steve :classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
Rick, "Precious" was a good find all round, so rare to find so much history on a Zed from Sydney. I guess you would have found out a lot from the original owners so lucky to find them. I had the drivers hand book, and some other bits and pieces that placed my Zed around Strathfield. The owners detail page in the hand book was empty not faded out but void of any informtion unfortunately. It is the original for my Zed as the key codes written in matched my original set of keys and barrels. Do you know the original purchase date. or first rego plate number for "Precious". Cheers Steve

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
1 Bravo 6, Rick that's what I call good information. Thanks for the effort. Nice Production. Everything you placed in your thread is in the data base. I put in Rocky instead of Yeppoon to show the large regional city. Was "Precious" sold new by Capitol Motors in Sydney, just curious. Cheers Steve:classic:

What fuel do you use in your L series motor?
ULP that is the go, I have run this stuff for a number of years, no matter where you get it it is always the same ( cheap and nasty) and it does not cost to much either, the incredible thing is they blend it with so many diffrent addatives, raise so much tax from it and it is never ever consistant. If you have an engine that can survive and run this stuff it is bullet proof. cheers Steve:classic:

240znz, thanks for your information. To the original colour of your Zed, I am sure exactly, I think I have one or two possibles. DULON DULUX Code 006 FULTON BROWN 15033 Code 960 RED 15051 Code 701 TAHOE RED 13320 If you can take a digital pic of an area like up behind the dash, it will give a nice slab of original colour. so it can be matched. I do not have the 70 colour samples but these are from the 71 set. I think it is reasonable to say your Zed was built probably NOV, DEC70 so it is probably not on the sheet I have. Someone will be able to identify it from the picture though. Cheers Steve :classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
Well I will come clean on this. To all, I am now into the pain of collecting the production Data for the S30, Is a very tedious task. I am primarily interested as stated in the export RHD Drive S30. To that statement I have realised that the task gives great incite into market saturation engine number variation and production delay just by reading the numbers. I am of the opinion If you have an S30 and you want to give me the information, I will put it in, that includes HLS30 from USA delivery or other. Any small extension of the data increases our depth of knowledge on production distribution and what is left. I have made a decision to enter the dead ones in Red as well as stating the fact in the comments. They all fill in the jigsaw, even when the only proof hangs on a garage wall half way round the world. To the cause, I would urge all of your input. I will attempt to put it together with information from all reliable sources ( read forum members) and people I interrogate). If you or people you know have valuable chassis/ engine / production / vin / compliance and any other useful info please send it in. cheers Steve

What Changed??
Daniel, I might be right off the track but from here it sounds like a fault in the wire terminal end fitting. Could it be that you have corrosion inside the terminal when you remove the washers it loads up and looses contact (maybe the terminal has been catching water). just a thought Steve:classic:

LanceM, thanks for that I have put the information in, just one more question, what is your nearest major City?. Roger, thanks for that. I have put a note on both vin dates as confirmed as per your last. I do not have the original engine data for the other Z but I will chase it up. I will let you know if engine numbers are significantly different. To all do I have your Z body / vin number, original data plate engine details. please let me know also production date or vin or compliance dates, original colour interior colour and trans type also any current mods. cheers Steve:classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
I have just input all the information from the last page and some. Zkid got the info let me know if you get those other 8 sets of numbers please. 240znz got the info, I think if you have an Aussie compliance plate it was probably 2/71. what was the original colour/ with black interior manual. Amazombi I have put your details in, the second set. do you have a vin plate in the rear pillar of the drivers door well it should have the build date. LanceM thanks I have put your information in, do you have black interior, auto or manual. Roger thanks I have put your details in does your compliance plate say 4/74 as your 260Z has the lowest number put in so far, A mate in Brissy has 647 it is compliance 2/74. Thanks all :classic: steve

Trying to trace footwell water leak
Im glad it was factory sealant, the resto is always a very slow proccess. Good to here you are going to keep the Zed on the road. You need to be able to get in the Zed and have a blast occasionally to keep your sanity. good luck Steve :classic:

Tell Me Yours I Want To Know
Thanks Z Kid, the information will be entered in red to signify a Zed no longer viable. Do you Know any more such as colour interior colour compliance date man or auto. I added another ten serials to the database on the weekend just gone. The information was good for all, with three GRS30's going in in red, two were build dated by the seat belts interesting both were built 4/77. All ten Zeds where manuals 4 GRS30, 2 RS30 and 4 HS30 Zeds. If you have any body number/data plate engine number type info for a RH Drive Export Zed please let me know. the data base is growing nicely. Cheers Steve:classic:

Trying to trace footwell water leak
To that silicone where the floor meets the firewall, are you sure it is whit silicone as the factory used a pourus off white body sealer as the joint compound. If you have any sections of floor in that forward area that are knocked up this could cause seperation at the joint letting water through. sounds like a bitte of work on the floors. Behind the seats at the rear floor joint should be more similar white sealant. cheers Steve :classic:

Trying to trace footwell water leak
This problem can vary depending how the water splashes. I had my front screen seal changed at repaint, my first sealer application with SELLEYS balck screen sealer. I did my sealing with the metal trims out, forcing sealant in around the screen on the window surface, then around the outside up under the seal, put in heaps. I reinstalled the metals cleaned the edges, let it cure , then washed the car. I got the same problem but not as bad, repeated all steps and reduced it to nil. I consider I was lucky. I must now resind Annette just walked up and looked over my shoulder and said what is this "I" $^!#? BUSTED yes "I" was a team event. If a re sealing of the screen does not bring success consider these, an opening in the fire wallthat has been missed, windscreen seal again, heater fan inlet duct bringing air in from outside(this is a vertical drop in to the fan, should be damp in the fan housing. another is a bolt up high at the rear of the front guard ( visible with the door open ) if it has been removed or loosened it provides abn effective water trail. I recommend lying in the Zed while someone poors water around it may cut the fault finding by a whole heap. Good luck Steve:classic:

NickF, Sorry have not posted the results yet. I am still chasing information and populating the spreadsheets. I am populating six pages at this time HS30- 70, 71, 72, 73 on , RS30 and GRS30 so for the moment I can only send files. To the rest who have right hand drive if you have not sent any information in please do. I am after body number Data plate engine number colour interior colour manual /auto and complaince or first reg date. I will not publish any ownership detail. Cheers Steve :classic:

chassis number
Brett240, Interesting, the ADR compliance plates are mandated on to the imported Datsuns from 1/71, so for Zeds build as 12/70 eg HS30-000400 compliance plated 2/71, plates running 1/71or 2/71 depending on the shipment the Zed arrived in. To your Zed, possibilities: 1. It could an early 70-89 personal import from Hong Kong, Malaysia or Singapore, this would not have required the plate as it was road worthy was automatic. 2. As we have identified a 11 or 12/72 build would come through in the silly season. At the time it came through most Zeds where pre sold so the pressure to move them would have been enough to cause the oversight. 3. Accident damage earlier maybe the RH tower and rail have been changed. 4. Also feasible (silly season) rivets where not pulled up properly at fitment of plate. Driving down a road it rattled loose and gone. Do you have any of the hand books or early delivery servicing paperwork, it may cast light. Cheers Steve:classic:

chassis number
Hi Brett240, I Agree with 2ManyZs as to your engine and build date, however to your Australian compliance date I would say 1/73 2/73 at a push if it was held back. From the information I have managed to find so far on the HS30 Zed your car is a very early 73 shell I know about. Zeds in the 100xxx range are quite rare in Aus, more common in the UK. Do you have a compliance plate on your Zed. Cheers Steve:classic:

FUMES... Give me a break!
Dave, you say you gaffa taped the hatch closed. did you run the tape along the back edge above the tail lights and the numberplate, so the natch to rear panel was sealed off. I am wandering if the two hach blank grommets in back of the hatch have holes in them. If you are good with the windows up then your vent system is functioning efficiently. The other place you may have air holes is on the tail light surround panel, right in the top right and top left of the insert, it may not visible even if you can slip a coin through it, it is normally hidden by the grey light surround panels x 3. If you have holes this size you will have tears in your eyes with the windows down (I did). My2c Steve :classic:

defects suck
two_fourty_zed, Sorry to here about the corrossion. This problem must be pretty bad for them to hammer you like that, considering how the zed looks on the outside. In your gallery I see a second S30 body is that yours too. Maybe you can transfer onto that and get it on the road, you can then repair the underbody in your own time when you can afford it. Cheers Steve:classic:

Diesel Crank.
Gav240z, are you sure it is a Patrol engine for Australia. I was of the opinion that SD33 series was the Australian engine and the LD28 was an importer supplied engine out of the taxies/LAURELS. Just an opinion Steve:classic:

Latest Z purchase
drunkenmaster, Nice score. Is that a factory exhaust manifold, just wandering what the casting numbers are on it. Do you know if all the L series engines use the same turbo exhaust manifold. Hope you can get it up and running. Cheers Steve :classic:
