Just a Saturday drive
17 years ago I had to take the trip around Lake Casitas in the morning and the evening for a week when the train derailed in Capenteria. It's a tight road, but the Z handled it very well. I also traveled the 154 on my way to work in Santa Maria for about 5 months. It's a nice high(er) speed run where I could stretch it out a bit, and I liked the changes in terrain it offers from State St. through to the 154/101 interchange up passed Los Alivos. A very nice drive indeed. Rob

Wordsmithing:
Following is the winning entry from an annual contest calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year's contemporary term is: Political Correctness And the winning entry was: "Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Black Pearl
Very nice indeed! It probably has to do with the fact that you are trying to post ".pdf's". You need to convert the images to a ".jpg" type file to post thumbnail images. Chances are the original images were "jpg's" to begin with, and you could post those.

Good call Stephan. I'd bet this little tidbit of information is in the club FSM cd. :surprised (wink wink)

Replacing/Fixing Door Panels
Hi Bruce, Did the upholstery shop replace the fuzzy strip that sit against the window, as well?

Replacing/Fixing Door Panels
David, are you thinking about offering your panels for sale? I checked out the thread on you project and they do look great! From the photos of the finished product, I'd say they look good enough to use just as they are. Maybe even customizing them with a touch of paint to your liking! Rob

Getting the most power
Hi Andy, I don't mean to throw a turd into your punch bowl, but how do you intend to pass smog with these modifications you are thinking about doing? Don't get me wrong, I feel you should be able to do whatever you want too your Z, I'd just hate to see you go through all this planning, financing, and building a hot car to find out you can't get California tags for it. Just a reality check. Or... Are you going to build a track car? Rob

Progress going on
Hi Juan, Your car is coming along very nicely. It appears you have and are continuing to do a very thorough restoration and uprgade to your Z. Are you going to use all of the aftermarket body components that MSA offers with that front air dam/bumper, such as the rear bumper and side skirts? I noticed you have eliminated the hole for the antenna. Are you planning to change the location or style? Or are you planning to listen to only the beautiful music your Z will make on its own! Very nice work, Rob

What is the best part of owning a classic Z?
I'd have selected "It just fits" if it were available. Everything I need or want in a true sports car is there and in the right place. In all the 27 years I've had one of these, and the many years I've been a member here, I don't recall anyone stating that something wasn't in the right place or was difficult to use. This goes along with the size and configuration of the car as well as the drivetrain and suspension. The only thing, in my opinion, that could be improved upon, is a substantial increase in power! Ya ha ha ha ha

Whats your guy's thoughts on these mirrors??
Another question to ask is... Is the right side mirror convex (like modern factory mirrors)?

ZRush - sad news
Vicki, I have always enjoyed reading you & Scott’s posts and reading about your project Z’s. You two have always been gracious and thoughtful in your statements and replies here at the club. I too wondered why we hadn’t heard from you both, and now I understand why. I do hope you find comfort and joy here that would help smooth the rough spots to come. You will always have a home here and are much appreciated. I pray that He will take you into His arms and give you peace and comfort. Rob

Take a Ride in my roadster
What an inspiring video! It makes me want to toss one of the kids into the Z and head on up to drive that road myself. The only thing that would be better would be to drive it in a convertable (hint, hint)!!

just wanted to see how old everyone is here?
53 jamb packed years old! There's been a LOT of water travel under my bridge, and I'm looking forward to many more years of fun.

NOS Door Panels Listed on Ebay
Carl, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my statement concerning the truthfulness and accuracy of the condition of these parts. And the fact that you personally know the seller and can attest to his integrity and knowledge in his trade. You have opened my eyes, and possibly many other's, about the seller, as well as how to expect NOS panels to appear. I stand corrected and enlightened as well. Rob

NOS Door Panels Listed on Ebay
How can the eBay seller call these panels NOS when the picture of the back side clearly shows water stains and that the ends of the metal caps have surface rust? It appears the bidders on these panels don't care that they're not NOS, but used. Duh! It's no wonder these parts cost so much with people like these bidding on them.:stupid:

New Job!
This sounds like really good news for you. Who knows, maybe after getting to know some of the designers and machinists, you could have them reverse engineer and reproduce some hard to come by Z car parts! Maybe even develop a side business partnership with the aircraft company to manufacture and market those parts. Something to think about? Good luck in your new endevour and enjoy the 'normal' days off. Rob

280Z Armrest
I've owned a '78 Z and now have a '75 Z and I'm very sure the armrests are the same dimensionally and asthetically. My '75 and your '76 Z are almost identical and I wouldn't hesitate one bit to swap the armrests between the '78 and '75. Rob

Top Car Movies
I've seen the remake and it's actually pretty good. I have to admit though that Handsome Rob is my favorite character in the movie.

Interesting excuse for selling, 280z on Ebay
Only the rear ones are white walls They look like they came off of one of those trucks he says are more practical in his area.

Get your tape measures please!
Hi Bloxman, You could very well have a '75 280z with original '75 280z doors. These doors are different than later year 280z doors, as you have discovered. The most notable difference is the location of the interior lock pulls. On my '75 280z, they are 6" from the rear of the interior panel. On my '78 280z, they were a few inches farther toward the front of the car. If you had 2+2 doors, you would have secondary interior door releases at the rear of the doors that enables the rear passengers to release and open the doors from the back seat. They would be longer as well. One thing to consider if you try to use the later 280z doors is the differences between the weatherstriping of the two and how that would affect the fit of the doors to the body. The later doors have additional rubber pieces on the top of the window frame, and I believe, at the bottom of the door. I noticed you're not exactly in an area of the world where body parts would be plentiful. If you can't find '75 doors, you might consider having the outer skins of the '78 doors grafted onto the '75 frames, that is if the '75 frames are in good shape. I hope this helps and clears things up a bit. Good luck, Rob
