  1. I'm not sure I totally agree with much of what has been posted. I owned an automatic 280Z and I autocrossed the crap out of it. The automatic was a great advantage on an autocross course. No third peddle to work, one click to stay in the torque... I stomped the wizz out of that car and trophied every event I attended for years. Other than the generalization that they were "treated better", I agree...
  2. Welcome, I have a student from Northern Ireland and I have to say, you guys are a lot easier to understand when you write!
  3. If you can manage to get Jay Morris on the phone when you call Ground Control he is a wealth of information on the Z. When he first started having success with the company he was racing a Z. He did the did the corner balance and alignment on my old Z before changing the company to manufacture and sales only and moving up the hill from me in the Diamond Springs area...
  4. I didn't notice you were in Oakland. The ZDoctor is down there somewhere. Richmond maybe?
  5. I had to go to your profile to find out what car you own but what you are describing is typical of a throttle position sensor that is gunked up... Sensation will usually happen at steady state cruise. Pop the cover off and look at the circuit board. It is sometimes possible to clean it up and still use it.
  6. On the pic he has of the front of the car, just behind the bumper and on top of the bumper shocks - blocking your view of the bumper shocks is a body colored piece of sheet metal supposedly called a sight shield (I have never looked it up in a parts manual). I have one from a parts car and can take a picture of it. It serves a similar purpose to the part attached to the body in the rear of the 77-78 cars. It is just there to hide the bumper shock. I have noticed at ZONC events over the years that this part is seldom there. I suspect because it gets crunched in any low speed fender bender and not replaced.
  7. Nice. I have found it pretty rare for the sight shield in the front to still be in place. By now most of these cars have tapped something in the front and people have not bothered to find a sight shield to replace the bent up one... California law may be vague as written but as applied, the seller must smog the car. But if you don't insist, DMV is not going to bat for you...
  8. I just wrapped my new dash in bubblewrap and put it in the crew cab...
  9. Nice one for sale on the ZONC site. I think it might be in Roseville just outside of Sac... Check it out. Big miles but looks like new.
  10. I think you may find a book on rebuilding the L Series Engine by Honsowitz??? Helpful. I have a copy at home but I am in my office on campus. Pretty basic motor to rebuild. Certainly less complex than a Porsche flat 6... Arne is quicker on the post and more accurate as well... Monroe it is. Honsowitz does write some other good Nissan/Datsun books though...
  11. Jared, I wouldn't worry about it. If it isn't messing with the alignment it isn't an issue. Bang it out. If it isn't structural and doesn't effect alignment it would be like having plastic surgery for a blemish on your arse. Why? Just keep your pants on What part of town are you from?
  12. The "auto" part of the autoerotic asphyxiation means he did it to himself. Not at all uncommon. In fact when they said he was found naked and hung in his wardrobe closet, autoerotic asphyxiation was the very first thing that came to my mind... I was amazed that the Thai police thought he committed suicide. People do some weird things in the name of self-stimulation.
  13. Shhh... My Z thinks she stole that cover after she bullied the 911 and ate it's lunch.
  14. Very timely! I have been covering my Z with a Porsche 911 cover and it is a bit of a stretch!!! Just a little longer than a 911...
  15. Fat Tire - served at 33 degrees.
  16. That fuel pressure can be a problem if you get the engine hot enough or have a hot enough ambient temperature. Then once you shut it off it can be hard to start. Sounds like things are still cool in Delaware...
  17. Pegasus Racing. They have a website too...
  18. My guess would be that his labor rate is $110/hour and he charges a minimum of 1 hour labor wise. Hardest thing about changing spark plugs is bending over to turn the wrench. I would do it yourself...
  19. I grew up on that lake... Lots of memories of riding horses around there. Nice Z.

The Gary Cohen I knew should be use to a gas smell... Albeit Sevoflurane or Desflurane... Are you from Oregon Gary? If your engine is running rich and your rear hatch seal is not good, you may have a gas/exhaust smell in the cabin...
  21. I agree! That is my wife, and mother of my four children... She thinks she is overweight at 115# when her normal is 108#. She is amazing. I took her to a concert this weekend in Reno for her birthday. I had met the promoter through her cousin and only told her we had pretty good seats. We sat next to the the artists husband in the first row. Got to meet her and have dinner with her after the show. I think I got a few "spouse" points banked... You are probably right about the steel wool vs. 3M pads... I took another look at the Wick Humble book and he only mentions lacquer thinner followed by clear lacquer. On the metal he says sanding followed by satin black.
  22. Perfect! Thanks guys. I have this perfect new dash that I don't want to install next to that powdered out shield.
  23. John! I am in the right Fair Oaks!
  24. I am going to be installing the new dash soon and I am planning on refinishing the metal peice that goes between the dash and window. What is the stock finish? It looks like paint but thick?
  25. John, Not really familiar with that route. I do a little test track after any project by going Winding Way East towards Folsom from Fair Oaks. At Hazel, I turn left and go to Sunset where I turn right. I then follow it down through the curvys to Main and up Main to Madison. Then Madison to Folsom Blvd to Hwy 50 back to Sunrise. It gives me a good variety of roads. Sunday the 31st I have a gathering of car guys at a place called Family Donuts and Deli at Fair Oaks Blvd. and San Juan Avenue. 9am to noonish. Come on down. Mostly Porsche guys but Mat has shown up and another guy named Alex who has a great 510 among other cars will be there...
