my birthday present!
Easier if you lived in Nashville, more expensive and complicated if you plan to jet in to see the car and arrange transportation to port and shipping to Germany followed by trucking to Austria - or hiring an agent to accomplish all the transportation tasks and paperwork. Having shipped a couple cars to Austria, I speak from experience. On the other hand, if you like an adventure, power on. Let us know how it turns out. Dennis

my birthday present!
Check with my friend Reinhard Funke in Krems. He deals primarily in Porsches, but has other sports cars and may be able to help you find or import a Z. His web site is: www.zum-FUNKE.com Tell him Dennis from California sent you. Dennis

New: I want to buy 240z s30
Generally, the less you pay upfront, the more you pay later. Find a good driver within your budget or plan on saving a bit more so you can buy a better car that will require less repairs. Have you checked on shipping fees to Greece? Dennis

Door weather stripping
Five months is a long time. Is the Z parked inside or outside where sunshine can warm the car? The sun's heat does wonders for helping to compress the door seals. Granted, it gets a little warmer here in the desert than in Ventura. Dennis

Have a politically correct festive season ..... :o)
Another reason to give up atheism is an enormous lack of special days when you eat good food and get presents. To me, that's ample reason to belong to several religions simultaneously, rather than none at all. Dennis

Looking for Recommendations
Can't address adding a turbo, but the A/C will run about $900-1,000 plus installation. In my opinion, worthwhile if you plan to keep the Z for a while. I've had A/C on mine since the 70s - actually, now on my 2nd unit with a modern rotary compressor rather than the old York unit I originally had added in '72. Dennis Dennis

Have a politically correct festive season ..... :o)
On behalf of those of us in the Northern Hemisphere who are simultaneously celebrating the Winter Solstice and its associated merriment, I graciously accept your inoffensive Southern Hemispheric greeting. And, if you're so inclined, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to our friends down under. Dennis

Maybe im stupid but i can NOT find the rear brake bleed nipple on my 71
Not if you want to get all of the air out of the system. In fact, when you bleed brakes, you should always start at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder and work to the one closest. Dennis

back in the day
A 240Z with a 5 speed is slick. However, a 240Z with any functioning transmission is a great car to own. Good luck with the search! Dennis

Snow tires
I used my Z in snow from '71 to '80 without chains or snow tires. It did just fine, except for the salt damage and rust. It hasn't seen snow for the last 31 years. Keeping a Z you like off the road in the winter is probably the best strategy for a long term relationship. Dennis

Internet Etiquette
I totally agree and appreciate that just about everyone on this forum communicates in standard English with a minimum of texting shortcuts. A word spelled incorrectly from time to time is tolerable - the message "spell check" feature helps. However, dangling participles are a whole other ball game Dennis

Internet Etiquette
Not sure how you came to that conclusion, but it's interesting. My child had four years of Latin in high school which may prove useful only if he needs to ask for directions to the bathroom while visiting the Vatican. On the other hand, he'll be starting his 3rd semester of Spanish at a major university in a few weeks. That will be useful in asking for directions to the bathroom almost anywhere in North America and most of South America. Dennis

Interesting...thanks for the link. You can see quite a few influences from other manufacturers in some of the styling models. Dennis

researching a VIN
Short of posting your story on every web site and message board related to Zs and hoping someone can supply the missing pieces, I think you're SOL. You don't know the VIN so you probably couldn't confirm the identity if you did find a candidate, it's unlikely the dealer who got your Z has 25 year old records or would release information, if they did, due to liability. Perhaps that Z should remain just a pleasant memory of a bygone time. That said, good luck with your quest. Dennis

Different master cylinder for series 1 and 2 240z? does it matter which one??
When i put the later style on my '71, I swapped the lines so that the proper reservoir fed the front brakes which provide the bulk of the stopping power. Seemed like the wise thing to do at the time. Dennis

Comparing Zs to Porsches?
And if Datsun is the last stepping stone before Porsche ownership, what are the Porsche owners moving up to? Dennis

Comparing Zs to Porsches?
I've owned my '71 240Z since it was new and 914s for over 30 years. I've had my '70 Porsche 914-6 for 20 years. For what it's worth, I find the only way the two are similar is that they both have four wheels and run on gasoline. Porsches and Datsuns were designed and marketed for vastly different purposes. While they are both an enjoyable way to get from point A to point B, they differ in ride, handling, and need for maintenance. Either can be a hole in the driveway into which you throw huge amounts of money - the Porsche, however tends to be a deeper hole. Dennis

Who else thinks the FT-86/FR-S has a certain Z-ness?
AutoWeek ran an article on the car's introduction in Japan today. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/7cu83lv Dennis

Redoing my painless wiring.
The BMW seat looks good! A frequent question on this forum is, "How did you adapt the seat rails to your Z?". How did you attach your seat and do you have pictures? Dennis

Who else thinks the FT-86/FR-S has a certain Z-ness?
I've had my eye on this one, too. I see that it has the same qualities that attracted me to my Z 40 years ago - style & performance. You might find a 64 year old in line with you. Dennis
